Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

  2. There is an ancient proverb I am reminded of tonight.

Your grandchildren will be Celtic supporters.

    Scott Allan’s dad.

  3. RUDICANTFAIL,

Let’s leave it to the manager & coaching staff. Why not defer judgement until you have seen him play a season for Celtic? Surely a new player is entitled to a chance? Or is it because he’s a self proclaimed dye in the wool bluenose?

No hysteria on here about Scott Allan., we have signed a player who has potential but will need a lot more than potential to get in our midfield, I have posted before and posted again Ronny (& Johnny) must think he has something, in my eyes he couldnt lace Lisa Hagues boots never mind our Kris Commons but if Scott fancies trying to emulate our Kris well he has a hooped jersey so all the best, in my opinion it’s a win win, like Craig Gordon, big Craig has been outstanding if Scott flops (I don’t think he will) well at least the media chumps have looked fools yet again, I sincerely hope anybody who puts our jersey on does well………….

By the way sometimes a new signing just makes the rest play better so 3pts the morra and Malmo 0 does me, still quietly confident about the CL good night & God bless

  5. We are short on creative midfield players Rogic isn’t the answer and KC has a limited playing time left I think(and hope) RD will eradicate his (SA) make a pass stand and admire attitude and make him into a player who can win games for us he certainly has an eye for a pass and when he wants can get about the park.

    Keep the faith

would it not be fair to say that Ronny has watched him at length, and sees something in him, hence the reason for signing him.?

He’s already a decent player, has an eye for a forward pass which is something we lack at times and training every day with our squad of mainly international players will improve him greatly.

imo he will be a great signing even if we dont see the best of him for a few months.

would you prefer we signed another unknown like bo the coward, bangura, amido, pukki, berger etc etc.?

  9. RUDICANTFAIL on 15TH AUGUST 2015 12:14 AM

How can Celtic hope to progress by signing a player…only reason to put the Hun Bassas into apoplectic rage?

There are no footballing reasons to sign Scott Allan

Please show me one and I will desist from this?

Presumably, despite being a Celtic fan (?) you didn’t see our midfield struggle to play an incisive through ball past their back 8 at Killie on Wed night?

    THAT’s why!!!

not sure what your job is Rudi but maybe Ronny Delia sees more than us in his specialist field, fair play if you are just an unhappy Celtic fan but your disappointment comes over somewhat differently anyhow enjoy the good times & Hail Hail

Maybe wee Scotty might be even half as good as the last Scotty we got far the Hibees

    Broooooooonnyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Where is the ‘proven’ goal scoring forward we so desperately require? That should be the question we are asking.

  12. RUDICANTFAIL

    If it doesnt work out

We sell the BHOY and get oooooooooooooor money back

    Nothing to lose ,

When he was at Dundee Utd many hoops fans thought he was a player, did not settle south of the border and was homesick, on returning home he was player of the year (only in the Scottish championship granted)but he shone at that level, now our boss hopes he can be improved on and fullfill the potential he showed at Dundee utd ,At £275k its a no brainer IMHO,even as a squad player.

The hun pain is just an added bonus to me

years they threw their tainted money around and revelled in judas ratcho petric , so please forgive me if I say well done Ronny & Peter Lawwell hunskelpers

PL may not be perfect in many of our eyes (he’s not in mine)

    BUT

to call him a hun on here is shocking

are you a hun.? cause you sound just like one

I did see the lack of incisive midfield play v the Ayrshire Orangemen the other night….

How can we improve with a player who couldn’t get a kick for MK Dons?

I am one who is delighted that Scott has chosen to sign for Celtic. I will give him 100% support. Welcome to Celtic Scott Allan. Work hard son and you will become a Celtic legend. I can’t wait to see you play and see your first defence splitting pass, but take your time. There is no pressure. I am a patient Celtic supporter who is very happy that you have signed for us.

Liam will benefit greatly from playing every week, and with his new 3 year deal tonight he will shine and return to claim a regular place in our team,

  22. 67Heaven .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I am wee Oscar...... Ipox belongs to the creditors on

If, as warbutton insists, he only wants players who want to play for sevco, why doesn’t he insist that he will only accept players who sign for 3/4 years and not loanees……..because he can’t afford to buy them ?

  23. I like the look of Scott Allan. He has pace, a killer pass and would be a threat against us. He will improve with better players around him and the challenges we present to him will improve him as a player. We basically swapped him for Dylan-don’t tell the SMSM-and Liam who I have high hopes for, will get a full year of football.

    GooddealCSC

  24. Gordon in the Sky,

He signed a new 3 year deal before going on loan. IMO its a good move for him. He will gain valuable playing time as I would assume he’ll be a certain starter for Hibs most weeks. TBH Henderson would be subject to cameo sub performances & the odd game here or there when injuries/suspensions take their toll.

Both Allan & Henderson are entirely different types of players. I see Henderson more of a box to box player & Allan as more of a number 10. I see no reason to be disheartened by either deal.
