Scouting and development, from Lanarkshire to Dumfries

804

There’s some fresh enthusiasm in Lanarkshire this morning with the appointment of Englishman Ian Baraclough as Motherwell manager.  Baraclough had a couple of successful years with Sligo Rovers from 2012-14, winning their first title in decades, before things fell apart this year, but his role as a scout for Huddersfield over the last six months is likely to interest Motherwell as much.

Motherwell directors have had a long-term tradition when looking for a manager of saying they want someone ‘plugged into’ the scouting and agent network.  This game is all about the right contacts, you don’t get to acquire a promising Blackburn Rovers reserve (as Motherwell once did), but this particular activity is also very competitive.

The small matter of how to deploy players is, of course, equally important, but if you’re Motherwell, Celtic or Barcelona, that call is a shot in the dark.

I watched newco Rangers for the first time last night, although I ended up watching a lot more Queen of the South than I expected.  The latter, each of them journeymen, were excellent, the former were symptomatic of everything that’s wrong with comfortably well-off footballers.  Newco’s medium-term future, if they have one, will be to spend the next few years building a self-sustaining lower league club, capable of winning promotion and remaining a top-flight football team thereafter.

Get along to Celtic Park early tomorrow, Davie Hay will be signing copies of Caesar & the Assassin in the Superstore.  If you ask him nicely he’s promised to sign your CQN Annual too.  Don’t forget your camera!

Also remember to look out for the Foundation bucketeers as you approach the ground or enter the turnstiles.  My boys and me will be at the North Stand, turnstiles 1-13, say hello if you’re around.

Thanks to everyone who donated to Mary’s Meals yesterday, the response was overwhelming.  Emails went out this morning to winners of the Magners’ tickets.

You can order your CQN Annual here, or get a special Annual-DVD bundle here.

As a special offer, everyone who buys an Annual, or bundle, before Christmas will be entered into a prize draw for a VIP Meal of 4 at a Celtic Park restaurant on a match day. One entry for each Annual bought; pile in.

What I said. What I was getting at ,during this TV revolution, was attempts made at getting fans in through the doors. We do not do enough. When we had 60,000,fair enough, but at the moment we have 40,000.We can use these spaces to encourage fans back to Celtic Park.Who knows what the future holds, but like everyone else on here,I was brought up going to the game with my Da.We are making this too expensive for families.Forget about TV.We need fans, and the future generations to want to come to watch. Its hard enough getting kids these days to get off their @rse away from their PCs,and games without making finance another wall.

TV ,for the past 25 years has saturated football.American football,Baseball,Basketball, has the same coverage in the States, but people still want to go to the events. We must try harder.

Tricolour Ribbon cheers, I hate the Internet but am addicted to this site especially for the good things it does

Jamesgang cheers for the reply and even though I don’t know you prayers were said, hope that doesn’t offend

Hrvastki Jim, yet again thanks for the reply, I absolutely love this site and Paul67 should sit back sometimes and give himself a wee round of applause, I know for a fact I have pressed the button on my phone for BRTH’s stories or the Malawi schools, maybe I should be doing this without viewing a Celtic site but it actually encourages more because it’s “our” site, sad though that me be but it does encourage me more, anyway I better get the I-pad off as the Dark Fruits are finished and the voldie is staring at me, am a kid on Coatbrig bhoy never touched Buckie in my life it’s stinking !

Of course we have to try harder, just saying it’s easier when you have the TV money to fall back on like the German league.

In my utopia of 3 oclock Saturday kick offs and Celtic fans buying worldwide season tickets to watch games on the internet will mean cheaper tickets to walk through the gate.

Always surprised that Chelsea and Man City didn’t reduce their tickets to nothing as they didn’t need the money.

  9. If we go 6 points clear tomorrow,I am calling WITS out for his crap post that we could lose the league this season because of Ronnie Deila.

    Your claimed WITS.

I know how you feel my friend, it was a long week from when my Dad passed away, we had to wait a week for the Funeral.

Funny that you said to your Dad ‘Keep the Faith’ . My Uncle Pat (my Mum’s Bros.) a great Celtic Mhan who passed away nearly two years ago would often speak those words. I remember being in his House after his passing. As I left that night I said to my Aunt Chrissie ‘Keep the Faith’, she smiled and said oh my God Lennybhoy Pat always said that, made me feel ten foot tall.

To have faith is a wonderful thing. I hope and pray your Mum is where she should be now. I will light a Candle at Mass for your Mum, Dad and you all tomorrow my good friend.

    As ever…

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

No chance they will disappear forever.

I will be astonished if that happens.
