Script written for Scepovic

886

With John Guidetti ineligible, Anthony Stokes is manager Ronny Deila’s first choice striker for Europa League action.  Anthony arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning but was sent home ill.  He was a certain starter, so whatever plans the manager made, a rethink is in order.

Stefan Scepovic made his goal-scoring breakthrough against Astra last month, and followed up with a goal next time out against Kilmarnock, but he was benched for Partick and Inverness Thistle.  Despite being third on the roster he’s likely to be the solitary striker role tomorrow evening.

This is a big game in Stefan’s Celtic career.  A European ground with an 8500 capacity presents a different pressure, and expectation, than Celtic Park.  Can he rise to the challenge?  Wakaso stepped forward in Salzburg and Callum McGregor did the same in Reykjavik, Warsaw and Maribor.  Both benefited enormously as a result.  I could make a case that Stefan needs this game; the script’s written……

Many thanks to everyone who bought the DVDs from CQNBookstore since yesterday, that’s’ the deal finished.  Will try to pull another together at some point.

    Perhaps they wouldn’t need to?

Perhaps papers and other media outlets may simply decline this piece of business?

Was Juan Carlos Lorenzo not the manager of Argentina 66 and Athletico 74?

The thing that gets me is that they didnt need to resort to thuggery, they had some right good players. Maybe cultural, but as I said last night, it was stoked up by Alf.

  3. My abiding memory of the 66 World Cup was the film, Goal. It showed highlights of the games in colour, which was a wonder at the time. They also showed things in slow motion, especially Pele being kicked off the park by Portugal.

    Amazing how technology has developed.

    Jg,

Just caught your meaning thought you were talking about copyright, from what I understand there has already been discussion and the Herald has already agreed with the proviso that the ad meets their editorial and ASA approval.

Aaaahhhh. Got you now! You had me scratching my head there!

I wasn’t sure that we had a definite ‘yes’ in principle.

I’d still be pleasantly surprised if they had the cajones to go through with it tho the Sunday Herald’s sole status as a paper who publicly backed the Yes campaign shows a certain willingness to go against the status quo (and I hope I’ve worded that last bit in a way that should reopen a referendum debate!)

    Still def worth trying for.

To be honest I expect this to be terminated very soon, I think it might have been better done first with the money paid up front and then an appeal to cover the costs especially something as delicate as this, I expect now the idea has been made public there will be strings being pulled as we speak to kill this before it becomes a reality, hope not but that’s my expectation.

Italian number 8 was Humberto Maschile . Played for Argentina , played for Italy . Played for Racing Club . Bologna,Fiorentina and Inter . Hererra dumped him because he thought Maschile was a lazy player who was more interested in chasing women than playing football. Played in all 3 Celtic / Racing games..

    Jg,

Our best hope is that its a different department that deals with advertisements, there is also the outside chance that being the paper that published the truth it may actually attract customers to a reliable source, so etching most papers couldn’t give a monkeys about, something I think is being undervalued by many editorial policies.

  13. Neil

    Agreed.

My concern would be that even a good paper would decide that the potential loss of revenue and readers and additional hassle wasn’t worth it for a twelve hundred quid ad.

After watching the Man City game and listening to the CL results come in I have a renewed optimism for tonight and the future.

Are we really that bad pro-rata compared to the mega money teams in the ” best league in the world” ?

On a current theme ; I think if it were possible to “persuade” a Newspaper to allow an ad, it would be massively subscribed by CQN’ers and many others. However I must agree with Bawsman at 09.17hrs. :-)

  22. The ASA can’t block a newspaper ad pre-publication. The only rule on ads that have been published and then complained about.

The Committee of Advertising Practice provide a free pre-publication advice service but that’s all it is, it won’t block an add, nor is it a guarantee that a subsequent complaint wouldn’t be upheld – even if CAP advice was followed.

As long as you have good written evidence, from a reliable source, for each claim made then you should be fine.

  23. A very happy happy birthday to you Celtic on this your 127th year.
