Script written for Scepovic

886

With John Guidetti ineligible, Anthony Stokes is manager Ronny Deila’s first choice striker for Europa League action.  Anthony arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning but was sent home ill.  He was a certain starter, so whatever plans the manager made, a rethink is in order.

Stefan Scepovic made his goal-scoring breakthrough against Astra last month, and followed up with a goal next time out against Kilmarnock, but he was benched for Partick and Inverness Thistle.  Despite being third on the roster he’s likely to be the solitary striker role tomorrow evening.

This is a big game in Stefan’s Celtic career.  A European ground with an 8500 capacity presents a different pressure, and expectation, than Celtic Park.  Can he rise to the challenge?  Wakaso stepped forward in Salzburg and Callum McGregor did the same in Reykjavik, Warsaw and Maribor.  Both benefited enormously as a result.  I could make a case that Stefan needs this game; the script’s written……

Many thanks to everyone who bought the DVDs from CQNBookstore since yesterday, that’s’ the deal finished.  Will try to pull another together at some point.

My preference would be Glasgow Celtic F.C. .v. F.C. Internazionale Milano!

Been in Milan twice and disappointed that nearly 50 years later we have never drawn them in any UEFA Competion.

Would be on a ‘to-do’ list sandwiched into a 7 day rendezvous with travelling Tims (including OT, ACGR & TET).

    ………………..

Ahem, I seem to remember a certain Dixie missing a penalty against them in a very important game in the early 70s.

I saw an interesting Argentine football documentary years ago.

We were definitely the first club to feel the wrath after Ramsay called them animals a year earlier. They more or less considered us English.

I remember one sub title which read, as the 2nd leg kicked off ‘now it was time to make the English suffer for calling us animals’.

The following years saw Milan, Man U and Feyenoord booted off the park in similar fashion.

Ajax, Juve, Bayern and Liverpool later refused to take part.

In 69 the Milan player Combin (Argentinian) had his nose broken by an Estudiantes player. While being stretchered off, he was hauled away by local Military Police and charged with dodging national service. Combin had been playing in France for ten years.

    Crazy days.

I fully understand what you are saying you know – in many respects I would instinctively say the same about Athletico.

However, it is the 53 year old man who gives his opinion tonight rather than the six year old and my view is that we play.

It is also my view that we should never have gone to Montevideo after the second leg and that we should have simply refused to have anything further to do with the competition or Racing Club in that competition.

However, if we are playing in a friendly and in a different spirit then my view is to play.

Of course that is only my view which is worth no more than anyone else’s and it may be I am very much in the minority – where I quite often find myself and am reasonably content at times.

Sh!t forgot about that one – must have been because no goals were scored.

I will know have nightmares about Dixie’s pen on route to Bridgeton X and the cruel cartoon of the astronauts ducking.

Funnily enough have a passing acquaintance with JD and the ‘pen’ has been discussed on several occasions – seem to recall his reply when asked about it one time: “yeah but I scored a hat-trick on the Saturday” (think it was v Motherwell).

I’m sure you will have realised that my post was tongue in cheek but my sentiments regarding Racing Club weren’t. I enjoyed your story. It must have been an amazing experience for one so young. I, grudgingly, admire posters on here who have indicated in recent years that we should put Athletico, Rapid Vienna and now Racing Club behind us and move on. I just can’t do it, no matter how hard I try. My wife denounces me as a Dictator and says Hod help the world if I ever come to power :-))
