Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible

I know what you are worried about after last night’s Scotland performance, “He’s going to throw James Forrest in now.”  My feeling on the matter is that James, Callum and Kieran all need to ‘work on their fitness’ a bit.

Since managing Scotland for a few months in 2007, a period that included a 0-1 win in Paris, Alex McLeish has been found out in five subsequent appointments, ending ignominiously in North Africa.  He has the look of what he is, a man earning enough to make good on a tax bill that recently came his way, and nothing else.  Nice gig if you can get it.  He also selects players who are banned for life from the national team.

Scotland have the players to beat the 94th team in the world but were not sufficiently competent to fix up a manager who already lives in the country but manages in Belfast, or conduct an adequate search for an alternative.

The result of this, is that fans stopped caring, as do many players, by the look of it.  I don’t know a single person who was upset last night, the Scotland international football fascination is over.  The once great endeavour of football as a self-contained unit in Scotland is over, everybody knows it.  Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible, please.

The Celtic View printed the following:

    THE BRIDGE O’ER LONDON ROAD

For many a year I stood

    I carried many a load

Across the way from Celtic Park

    The bridge o’er London Road

And when the fans approached me

They all would raise their eyes

They knew when they came near me

    They were close to Paradise

    And I’ve seen every manager

    From Maley to McStay

    McGrory, Stein and now McNeill

The men who led the way

The players’ names all are legion

They strived with all their might

To bring honour, fame and glory

To the colours green and white

    Kelly, Tully, Crum, Deleany

They fought through thick and thin

    King Kenny, Tommy McInally

    Peerless Patsy, Jimmy Quinn

    John Thomson’s regal grace

    The McPhails and the McStays

    I’ve seen thousands gather

In the year of sixty seven

When came forth the European Cup

With the fans in seventh heaven

    The Exhibition trophy

On their sideboard they can show

    Likewise the Coronation

And nine League flags in a row.

    Today you’ll never walk alone

    The fans will loudly sing

As they cheer McGrain and Nicholas

Burns and Provan on the wing

So now my task is over

    I’ve carried my last load

Good luck, thanks for the memories

    Hail and farewell !

I can totally understand and respect anyone on here who has lost all interest in the Scotland national team and who couldn’t care less about international football. But I can’t get my head around anyone who takes that extra step to hope that Scotland “get a good doing”, particularly when there are 5 Celtic players and 2 former Celtic players still in the squad and who have every chance of taking part.

Of course, you don’t need to justify yourself to lil ole me. In actual fact I’m not that bothered about today’s game given that it’s a friendly although I wouldn’t take any joy out of a Scotland defeat.

    Liverpool 1966

First European away game for me.Dreadful Referee .Liverpool ‘s opening goal stemmed from a free kick for a non existing foul and the decision to rule out Buzzbomb’s goal for being offside was so wrong that the only logical explanation was that the Ref was Wowee clueless re the offside rule or was bent..

That said the behaviour that followed the disallowed goal was blootered moronic stupidity to the max .

  17. Jobo I used to want Scotland to win, but the whole SFA, SPFL, McLeish, betfred cup, Celtic players getting booed, the list is endless and I have had enough. We should withdraw our players until a root branch gut out of the old Masonic twisted cabal are ousted.

  18. Just read back and the discussion about the ANTS.

My granda Joe played for them after the war but for some reason he left to play for Pollock.

They got beat in the final of the junior cup.

I mind my granda went to a reunion and him wearing his medals from tha war and looked ten foot tall.

There was a live cross from BBC news that night right at the end of the game . Just in time to see the chalked off goal and the bottle throwing .

*I had a ticket for that game and had a lift down already arranged. On the Friday morning the day after the 1st game I got called intae the office, I had just won the apprentice of the year award and my reward was a stint in head office working with the engineers, this would prove beneficial later in life as I became one, unfortunately I was to appear there on the Monday morning.

When I went home that night quite pleased with myself and told my mother my da’s first response was “gi’es yer ticket, Annfields out now”. There was nae way they were letting me take time off tae go down there and looking back quite rightly tae.

So that Tuesday night I went training, just before I left the house the cameras previewing the programme for later that night panned over tae the fabulous kop as they called it and the best supporters in the world, all you could here was “some have come, from a land beyond the sea, God bless them sworn to be free”, best supporters my erse.

You’ve brought that season back to mind so well. But I think it was nearer 20 than 10 years after WW2.

*correct and I noticed that after phosting it.

The game I remember most vividly from that season was a section LC tie against Rangers. We had to win to qualify for the knock-out stages and were 0 -1 down until about 10 minutes to go. Then Rangers got their penalty. Johansson smashed it against the under-side of the bar. Cue a chorus of ‘HH the Celts etc.’

It was 1-1 before the first verse finished. Then 2 and then 3. Celtic supporters enjoyed their hot chocolate that night.

*Now I’m being pedantic again but that was 16 months later, 30th of August tae be precise. One of my top 3 hun victories, the other 2 were the original 5-1 game where big Tiny dummied the ball for Chopper tae rifle home a left foot shot and the Davie Hay SC 3-1 where not not only did he put their greatest ever player in his place in a surprising inclusion at inside left but also scored fae the half way line, well it was actually 25 yards but looked further fae the Celtic end.

I was abroad for the George Connelly 4-0 game so didnae see that one.

  22. TONTINE TIM. funny you mentioned that, was talking to a Liverpool fan on Friday about that game, but like me too young to go, but he said he went to one of the celtic/Liverpool testimonials, he was in the kop,the cetic fans were in the anfield road end and also had taken over the stands,he said the place was bouncing. he had never seen anything like it before in all his time supporting Liverpoo,l and as his name is john rooney hes one of us now.lol.hh.

I think they had to close that stand for repairs and underpinning after our visit in 96.

They discovered a serious design flaw when the Celtic fans started partying. It wasn’t designed for people to enjoy themselves!

was at all 3 of those games – great memories indeed

5-1 of course we were 1 down to a forest goal in the first couple of minutes then scored 5 in the second half

3-1 my mate left when they got a penalty – we were shooting into the hun end in 2nd half – bit like vojvadina

4-0 we were still celebrating buzzbombs goal when turned round to see big George rob greig and waltz round the keeper

not often a team concedes 4 goals from corners – joke defending – Neil Aspin is a bit like Mcleish – played 8 out of position yesterday.

Tontine Any ideas to my question? In other words who managed the reserves from the dugout when the first team were playing at the same time.

*Willie Fernie who was appointed reserve team coach by Jock in 1967 and stayed until 1973, he was also assisted by Alec Boden and possibly John Higgins who i believe took the part timers at night.

I believe it was an injury to Alec Boden, from the holy village of Duntocher, which allowed Jock who was only signed tae coach the younger players his chance in the 1st team.
