Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible

I know what you are worried about after last night’s Scotland performance, “He’s going to throw James Forrest in now.”  My feeling on the matter is that James, Callum and Kieran all need to ‘work on their fitness’ a bit.

Since managing Scotland for a few months in 2007, a period that included a 0-1 win in Paris, Alex McLeish has been found out in five subsequent appointments, ending ignominiously in North Africa.  He has the look of what he is, a man earning enough to make good on a tax bill that recently came his way, and nothing else.  Nice gig if you can get it.  He also selects players who are banned for life from the national team.

Scotland have the players to beat the 94th team in the world but were not sufficiently competent to fix up a manager who already lives in the country but manages in Belfast, or conduct an adequate search for an alternative.

The result of this, is that fans stopped caring, as do many players, by the look of it.  I don’t know a single person who was upset last night, the Scotland international football fascination is over.  The once great endeavour of football as a self-contained unit in Scotland is over, everybody knows it.  Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible, please.

  1. Armstrong down injured, there is concern that he might not be available to fail to make the Southampton squad next weekend.

    ???

  3. Had a wee chuckle with the Radio Scotland commentator there. Portugal score their 3rd goal. He shouts “Scotland nil – The European Champions 3!”

Trying to take the sting out of it.

  4. On BBC jack Hendry now the scapegoat.

Why do Celtic players accept the inevitable hassle the media give them by agreeing to play for the best wee country?

Celtic should take out an Ancestry.com membership to trace players lineage so they can represent a country that does not hate them.

  5. Scotland fans heading back to their motors parked just off Carmunnock road at mount Florida to find they’ve all been ticketed. It’s the stuff of real heartbreak today.

  6. Meanwhile our 4 players still remain on the park, at least they don’t have tae come back tae that dump in 2 weeks

*and wee nasty worth everyone of his almost 50 caps.

  8. Great play from GMS to be fair.

Hayley McQueen just said back after the break to analyse where it all went wrong for PORTUGAL.

  9. FULL-TIME Scotland 1-3 Portugal

Portugal could afford to play their second string – making 10 changes from Thursday’s win over Poland – and still record a convincing win over Scotland.

*whit happened tae the country that brought the game tae the world, oh wait a minute an ayrshire rag and bone man ruined it.

Portugal both teams to score & win 3/1 your cash :-)

David66 would never ever bet against the Hoops … different sport :-)

  11. I mentioned the other night there, Iceland, with a population about the same as Dundee, drew with France 2-2. Friendly or not, can you imagine Scotland drawing with France? Even a slightly weakened France?

Nothing will change until the SFA is wiped out.

  12. i will say again scotland are shite and while hunnish will always be how people like willie miller can defend them is beyond me

  13. Hampden snore. Celtic’s Jimmy McGrory gave us the Hampden Roar. The problem for Scotland is that there is no Fergus McCann out there.

  14. hi bhoys trying to take my mind off the Scotland game, came across this, the case of maire drumm a prominent republican shot in her hospital bed. now that’s the bit that scares me shot in her hospital bed, now ive never came across this case.ashamebly because I would put myself into the republican cause ,anybody know the case.hh.

  15. Change will not come in Scottish football until the country becomes introspective and decides to eradicate or at least admit to and tackle it’s best wee problem.

The countries mindset still prefers failure over openness and honesty.

The fact that there is no political pressure on the SFA who have presided over decades of terminal decline in our national sport speaks volumes.

  16. Hope all our players are injury free when they return to Lennoxtown, that is my only interest in that game.

    FTSFA

  17. willie miller really is a plonker scotland wont qualify they are shite and the ftsfa are the reason

  18. DANSO 1888, why weren’t these cases of murdered catholics ever brought out into the open, maybe its because we live in a protestant country or am I being paranoid.hh.

  19. Scotland played much better this evening than they did against Israel on Thursday but still lost to the Portugese reserves. So difficult to take many positives from that. AS for the Celtic Bhoys –

Gordon: blameless for the goals, 1 decent save in 1st half, distribution OK 7/10

Hendry: Jack played very well but was caught out advancing with the ball into their half but with no real plan in mind, leading to the 3rd goal. 8/10

Forrest: Good first half drifting more into the middle than as an out and out winger. very quiet in the 2nd half and contributed little. 6/10

McGregor: the best Scotland player on the park, showed for the ball all night, linked up well on the left with Robertson and always looked to move the ball forward 8½/10

Finally, insightful comment from Darren Fletcher at half time when he said (twice) “Portugal are treating it like a friendly”. Right you are, Darren.

    Finally, finally – 6 more sleeps ;-)
