Shane Duffy and space for a project

712

At 6’ 4” and built like the Free Derry Wall in the town he knows so well, Shane Duffy brings experience and assurance to the middle of the Celtic defence.  What would have happened had he been at the club eight days earlier is imponderable.

I don’t know Shane well enough to comment on that question but I am assured by Irish friends he has been an impenetrable leader in their national team for years.  He is at Celtic because his time as first choice at Brighton is over, but he is still only 28, which is the middle of the peak years for many central defenders. We have recruited a player who will be influential in the chase for 10.

The most pleasing aspect of his signature is the tactical shift another central defender gives us towards three at the back.  Surely Shane, Kristoffer and Christopher will all play when fit?  That being the case, I would like to see us add one more central def.: space for ‘a project’.

A warshield of the RockSons fenieni tribe, found on a wall in the town hall, no one knows how it got there, but it is proof for sure …………..

and even more conclusive a Roman mile marker on an old roman road, know as Dumbuck, literally “the fields of the attacking geese”.

It is not known what the inscriptions say.

Delighted with the Shane Duffy signing, a player who will play for the jersey.

    PS is he any good.😍

TIM, I first noticed big Shane way back at the 2016 Euros when he was outstanding against Italy, a match the Republic won 1 – 0 to qualify for the knock-out rounds. I thought then that he would be a great signing for us. And to all the experts who lament his lack of pace, he seems to have survived well enough in both the EPL and at international level over the last few years. Welcome to the big mhan, would love to see him live in the Hoops this season, if that becomes possible.

I would not like to see us sell Ntcham or McGregor . I doubt if we would be able to replace them with similar quality . In fact we should be looking to get that level of quality into every position on the park , a level we are not at yet.

I have read some shite posted on here over the years, but this recent British Unionist troll JHB, takes the biscuit.

    One for the watching!

DD … and one for the scrolling by! Troll by ANY definition!

  5. SAINT STIVS : As a true born Son Of The Rock with a keen interest in the history of the area,I blame St Patrick’s High School for gaps in my history education that you have so eloquently filled.I will never look upon the Castle in the same light again as I cross the old bridge over the River Leven.

  6. Is it only those on the right of politics and don’t support Scottish independence that are trolls.

Whereas left of centre republicans ( which I have been all my life) are good guys.

Your friend DD likes to mix Celtic & politics in his posts – ask him to see one from around two weeks ago….step for a hint – it is 50% about our quest for 10iar. I have a screenshot, but as I don’t get involved in ‘tit for tats’, I’ll keep it under wraps…..for the moment HH

  8. As Celtic Supporters we are a sentimental lot, & whether it’s the Albanian President or a New York rapper sporting the Hoops, that type of stuff gives us a buzz.

I love the fact that Shane Duffy is just simply one of our own.

A Celtic Supporter who is an extremely successful Footballer.

The fact he turned down the Premiership & bigger money to play for Celtic makes him a hero to me.

However when he runs out on the field with a Celtic jersey on, all the sentimentality has to go out the window & it’s all about what he brings to the team.

I worry that I have built my hopes too high because ,I really believe he will be a star for us, one of our best signings ever.

Come on Shane Bhoy make yourself a Legend

  9. RON BACARDI

Correct Wee Toomy a great wee man who gave me a lifetime love of history. When dishing out the belt his favourite phrase was “big bang no hurt” and proceeded to belt you again.

  10. CorkCelt,

I’m intrigued by what he’ll bring but “one of our best signings ever”?

I’m not even sure he’s one of our best CHs currently.

    :)

  11. Nobody could doubt that Neil Lennon has an eye for a player.

Not many people know that Van Gogh had an ear for music

    Only the one mind

  12. Just to pick up on what Bournesouprecipe posted earlier on Scott Sinclair – we can now appreciate just what he gave us in that first season – OK he shaded-off subsequently, but what would we give for another of his kind right now.

Elyounoussi is not an out & our left-flanker & therefore disappoints at times. He is a class player but, in my opinion, will never be a week-in, week-out pick.

Very high hopes for young Harper – seen him quite a number of times in the Reserves prior to Covid. Think he’s being groomed for Griffiths’ place in the pecking order.

Has Shane come to live the dream only for a year? He’s young enough to pick up his career in the EPL next season….so maybe!

Grateful to have him nonetheless – 10iar is not a given.

    Our ‘project’ centre-half.

    :)

    ……………….

The Daniel Prodan of Celtic. Signed a guy who can’t walk never mind run. The Celtic jersey does not shrink to accommodate the SadiesBhoys of this world. 🤣

  14. So is Elyounoussi being played out of position – surely not – what next a midfielder playing as striker 🤔

  15. I’m hoping Elyounoussi will be our No. 10, linking with both Ajeti (again) and the magnificent Eddie.

    Mouth watering prospect.

  16. Question for the politicos:

Do you tíre of scrolling past all the footie chatter that gets in the way of your true reason for being here – filling up the blog with your drivel?

    Asking for a troll.

  17. Big wavy

Play the best players in their best position is the mantra – unless we haven’t got a decent LB

  18. Magwai

Some posters only come alive when politics is mentioned. I haven’t got a problem as long as the discussion remains civil without personal attacks.

  19. Gene – That’s a fine mantra. We have the finest talent in the land. Let’s get them purring like wolverines in the right system.

I’m delighted that we have signed Shane Duffy. I think he’s just what the doctor ordered. He’ll be a great addition to the team I’m sure. Welcome to Celtic Shane!

what would be the general view is Boli serves his ban, takes his club fine and comes back into the squad? I don’t even know if he is back training

players have made mistakes and apologised before

    ___________________________________________________________________

unlike ‘the rangers’, I think this bhoy has been punished enough,

    Yes, give him another chance

    ——————————–

Thanks Rock Tree Bhoy, it had gone a bit quiet on his future and it’s like we have all assumed we will sell him.

i don’t think they should draw this out too long whatever happens

I would keep him if he is genuinely sorry and the lads in the dressing room have no issue

  23. Big Wavy,

    Oh Ye of little Faith,

This guy will bring passion organisation & Leadership.

He is totally different to what we have, I’m not saying better or worse. I’m saying different.

I just think he could be the missing link, that will drive us on.

    A 6ft 4 inch Brooney but 6 years younger,

  24. STPATRICKSBHOY

Wee Toomy once gave me the belt for only scoring 45% in a class exam. Then he gave me the belt again when I pointed out that I had actually scored 55% because he had added the marks up wrong !

  25. has there ever been a better back line than murdoch mcneil and clark, as someone, who was born into the lions era, im probably biased, i remember clark mcneil and kennedy, if i remember jim kennedy was a no nonsense defender get past me at your peril, then again fallon young and gemmell were no bad iether, just ask blantyre tim of this parish, if i remember john always wore a green jersey, where as frank haffey wore a yellow jersey, ach nostalgia, and frank if your lurking, ffs why did you miss that penalty against airdrie, that was my first ever game at parkhead ,not to worry we still beat them 9-0 👍

  26. Re Boli, Reality is he was disappointing even before the Spanish trip fiasco.

I reckon Celtic are keeping their cards close to their chest, in the hope a bid comes in & they might recoup a million or two.

  27. Basically Boli stuck two fingers up to the club, his teammates and the government. Can’t see him coming back from that.

As corkcelt said he wasn’t exactly setting the game alight

  28. ST TAMS on 2ND SEPTEMBER 2020 4:37 PM

I would personally like to see Barry Douglas brought in for left back . I think he could help improve and develop Greg Taylor

I heard we are talking to him.

  29. CONEYBHOY on 2ND SEPTEMBER 2020 6:37 PM

We are not exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to Boli’s position, it would be sheer folly to punt him – unless of course we get an offer we cant refuse,

I thought there was something quite nasty about the way there was a rush to condemn him after his Spanish trip dropped every one in it – a lynch mob mentality – very un Celtic like.

Everyone deserves a second chance, even Boli Bolingoli 😀

Post your screen shot from me.

Type of thing that a sleekit troll like yourself would do. Let’s debate what I posted. That is not your style though. You prefer to be a cowardly, sleekit troll.

Any chance you could answer any of the questions I have asked you in the past fortnight, since you started trolling me on here, and SentinelCelts.

  32. I’m more than happy that Turnbull, Ajeti and Duffy are now Celtic players. Each and all of them will bring something positive to the club. And the fact that they all want to be there, well that is more than a bonus.

So credit due in getting them in. Chances are we will lose a player or two, in order to make up the shortfall in potential income that even just qualifying for the CL would bring. Without crowds, the EL, if we get there, will cause less disruption, than it normally does, at least to supporters. Could do without the Nations League, albeit not the Euro play-offs, since that is a maximum of two games, and finals group stage are in part played in Scotland, with us potentially in England’s group, but UEFA, like the SFA have nothing but contempt for football supporters, and indeed their clubs. That view may be too political for some on here I know. Tant Pis.

  33. DD- Thanks for reply, the point I was making we have had pseudo Celtic supporters in the past linked over many years, and didn’t sign ,Duffy at 28 is in his prime, and wants to play for Celtic, but could have probably got double what we are paying him,I think in this day it should be noted.Owen Coyle anyone?

  34. RTB

As a result of his Spanish trip we had 2 games less to prepare for CL game (may or may not have made a difference) – and now have 2 games to catch up in an already busy schedule.

I’d sell at the earliest opportunity.
