Shane Duffy and space for a project

712

At 6’ 4” and built like the Free Derry Wall in the town he knows so well, Shane Duffy brings experience and assurance to the middle of the Celtic defence.  What would have happened had he been at the club eight days earlier is imponderable.

I don’t know Shane well enough to comment on that question but I am assured by Irish friends he has been an impenetrable leader in their national team for years.  He is at Celtic because his time as first choice at Brighton is over, but he is still only 28, which is the middle of the peak years for many central defenders. We have recruited a player who will be influential in the chase for 10.

The most pleasing aspect of his signature is the tactical shift another central defender gives us towards three at the back.  Surely Shane, Kristoffer and Christopher will all play when fit?  That being the case, I would like to see us add one more central def.: space for ‘a project’.

Beware fake news on Twitter that Odsonne has signed a 2 year extension and will wear the No. 7 jersey. It’s rubbish apparently.

some of the stuff on Twitter and it’s by Celtic fans grinds my gears.

RON BACARDI Correct Wee Toomy a great wee man who gave me a lifetime love of history. When dishing out the belt his favourite phrase was “big bang no hurt” and proceeded to belt you again.

*Toomy or Tommy O’Donnel’s brother Hughie I believe was the heidie at St Stephen’s Dalmuir.

My da was a rancher and knew Toomy well, I think he lived up Bellsmyre, he would often walk home with Evan William’s father in law Tottie McLaughlin who lived in Bonhill.

A tough wee teacher but knew his stuff.

  4. Congratulations to Andy Murray on winning in five sets last night, incredible effort in New York.

And special mention to the Boston Celtics, (2-0) in a good position to reach their first NBA final in ten years.

It’s up to us to keep this scandal in the public eye and to get an independent inquiry into the behaviour of the police and the prosecution service.

This is our best chance of an investigation. We won’t get an open goal like this again.

The Scottish government must be pressured into action or the claims will be settled and will be a one day story and disappear.

*Oh dear I’m a lot older than you St Marys when it was the only ben affleck school in the Vale 53 tae 60 and then St Pats 60-63, Peter Goldie arrived when I was in 3rd year. Born doon Craft Street but grew up in the Haldane. My mothers family landed in Bi Nill fae the Antrim shores a long time ago.

  9. I think it’s time Lennon introduced Soro to play in the starting eleven, what’s the point in splashing out a few million quid and not getting a sniff of playing first team football, said it before to much favourites up at Lennoxtown .

  10. I read that Arsenal signed a specialist set-piece coach this season. I think we should do the same and also sign a Defence Against the Dark Arts coach.

They are going to throw everything at us this season.

Bradley Walsh is a Tim for sure. Once corrected a guy who said Londonderry immediately with Derry

Also pointed out that Celtic ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world ‘ could not be the answer

Played non league i think and also worked at RR Leavesden

I attended Saint Thomas Aquinas Jordanhill Glasgow from 1977 to 1982. We were the second best team in the regional schools league. Saint Patrick’s Dumbarton were our biggest rivals and the better team. Did you play in the Saint Pat’s football team?

  15. PeteC – What vintage / era would you be roll called within the Ex-Tradimus Lampada Crew…..

Thinking that I might need to re-classify myself as being a member of the “junior” squad – which is a re-assuring thought at 55 😎🥃

  16. Tontine Tim…..Hail….Hail….Sir 👍

The mean streets of Dalmonach Road / Hillbank Street became my turf 🤣…..roaming the field around the V.O.L Golf Course and “Devils Gultch” for juvenile madness……No Doubt familiar haunts of your own a generation before me…..

The Chase has started late tonight.

I take it that the question was answered correctly ?

  19. PeteC – Could have been worse !

I had to face “Big Peter” Mulheron for 6 of the best – hands strategically positioned to protect the Crown Jewels as instructed by “Big P” 🤣🤣

No long term damaged done – palms of the hands swollen to the size of goal keeper gloves but on a positive the other target was missed……👍

Are you still living locally in Dumbarton / The Vale / Helensburgh / Balloch ?

The Saint Thomas Aquinas team I played in could beat every team in the league comfortably, but not Saint Pat’s. Strangely 6 of our team made it professionally in the game. Indeed one Tosh McKinlay made it to Celtic. Surprised none of your Saint Pat’s team did. Always remember beating Saint Columba’s Clydebank easily, but they had a crackin wee player who did well in football, Patsy’s grandson Kevin Gallacher.

Calmac signed for Celtic when he was 8 years old. I am sure he has been a Celtic supporter since then. Before then, not so sure, but I will find out. Cheers.

  23. CELTIC MAC @ 7:13 PM,

    Rock tree bhoy

Boli got fined, Celtic punished, followed up with a match ban for the bhoy.

Does anybody know how Celtic have dealt with him?

Celtic are still going through the disciplinary process with Bolingoli, it should be concluded this week, Lenny said after the Motherwell match on Sunday…

…Meanwhile, Lennon spoke for the first time on the Boli Bolingoli situation for the first time since the Belgian was hit with a three-game ban plus two suspended for breaking Covid-19 protocols.

He said: “‘There will be a disciplinary sanction from the club as well. We will take stock of things over the next week or so and take a decision on what we do.

“We are going to think about it very, very intensely and make a decision in the next week or so.”

Asked if the defender’s career was over at Celtic, he added: “I wouldn’t be so definite, but it might be something we think about, that’s for sure.”

    Hail Hail
