Shiels has history on his side tomorrow

923

It would be easy for Celtic to take their eye of the ball.  A huge Scottish Cup game at Tannadice last week, which was more difficult than the score-line suggests, before Neil Lennon had what will have been a few traumatic days.  The tension in the west of Scotland ahead of next weekend’s game at Ibrox is already tangible; in truth, we could do with some quiet preparation time ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Communities League Cup Final against Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock have no such worries.  The Cup Final tomorrow is their season.  Out of the Scottish Cup and certain to finish in the bottom six of the SPL, their focus will be absolute tomorrow.  Kenny Shiels’ team have won only four league games since October  but you will not need me to tell you two of those victories were against Rangers.

Two home wins within six days against Rangers and Aberdeen, the latter on 3 December, suggested Killie were certain to challenge for a European place this season, but things have moved south since then.  They beat St Mirren on 2 January at Rugby Park before that impressive performance dumped Rangers on their bums at Ibrox last month.

Kenny Shiels made it onto Radio Scotland during the week to tell the nation that Celtic were so good it would be a travesty if they didn’t win the treble.  I totally agree (and I’m warming to this guy) but Kenny knows exactly what he is doing.  He intends to win the cup tomorrow and will know every potential weakness in the Celtic team.

History suggests he has a decent chance.  Since winning five consecutive finals (until 1969), Celtic competed in 20 finals, winning only seven.  We have some form to make up in this tournament.

    Weeron,

I assume the SFA does have some code of ethics / conflict of interest policy, but clearly it is either ineffective, inappropriate, or unenforced.

Cast your mind back to last year when NL picked up his touch line ban. I am 99.9% certain that one of the officials at the hearing was from a highland league club, but , the individual was very open about his shareholding in der Hun…..if this isn’t a conflict of interest , I don’t know what is.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the same individual re-appears in pending investigation into the Rankers.

What amazes me is the audacity of this type of behaviour – is it driven by ignorance of a potential conflict , stupidity , or plain arrogance ?

  2. Awe Naw (18:01), that can’t actually happen, as we’ll only be 14 points clear with 21 still to play for, even if we win.

Didn’t you hear, Rangers aren’t actually in administration, due to an administrative oversight by their administrators.

However, if it is subsequently ruled that they have actually gone into administration, so that status is re-invoked, will they lose another 10 points for going into administration again?

As far as I know, 10 points are deducted each time a club goes into administration, but there is actually nothing in the rules about having the 10 points reinstated should it subsequently be established that there was a technical error with the initial administration event. So, contrary to my first asserted point, they’d actually end up another ten points worse off, and we will indeed clinch the title with a win at Ibrox next week.

The bouncy is there reinactment of the death of a young Catholic man, Robert Hammill in Portadown several years ago, when they ‘bounced’ on his head.

It should never be sung by us even in mockery.

    Good call.

This will be a very difficult game which coincidentally has been awarded the lowest of profiles by MSM, because Ragers are so deep in the mire, and Scotland is preoccupied with their plight.

Kilmarnock are the most difficult Scottish opponents we could be playing tomorrow since we’ve despatched the other form side Utd, this one will be down to desire, attitude, and Celtic’s technical football superiority.

The players must be at their best because one day they’ll look back on their career at Celtic but will they come up with a quote such as this?

“Yes my time at Celtic is over, but this is not a time to be sad.

I would be sad if I had never played for Celtic.”

  6. said it before and I’ll say it again. The media have served us wellv(perhaps too well). We should have no complaints.

The hun have not been served well because the media spin everything their way. Even now it is spin, spin, spin when they are deep in the mire.

  7. The dissembling and grotesque twisting of the word gangsters is always a joy

mask the horrors of their long sponsored association and promotion to the max

I remember that was debated on CQN about three years ago and the conscencus was that this story was a lot of bollocks along with the significance of the red tops on their socks.

from really good source : the st mirren story from earlier on is spot on. 2 bids made from CW lawyer on behalf of / in the name of 2 local business men, with the view of rankers taking their place after liqiuidation. Gilmour has turned both down.

Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba. Ian Dennis, BBC Radio 5 live’s chief football reporter, has just reported that Muamba is fighting for his life.

I’m sure all our thoughts are with this man at this moment wishing him to pull through If as serious as Is being reported.

  16. hamiltonttim,

I wouldn’t argue with you about what they will do to anyone we put out but the three I mentioned are not indispensible. Imo, Wanyama is, especially as Kayal is out for the season.
