Short-term fix for staple Euro strategy

985

There’s always a bit of reticence signing a player who has been away from his previous club for four months. Carlton Cole hasn’t played since starting West Ham’s final games of last season, and presumably has only trained in isolation since then.

Expectations of a quick return, should Celtic offer him a contract, have to be tempered with the realisation that he’ll be at least a month away from full fitness, but by then we will be set to face Molde away.

One aspect of our play that will concern Ronny Deila is that we’re short of attacking variation. The high ball forward to Samaras, so long our staple on the road in Europe, is not an option. This will be the reason why Carlton is training at Lennoxtown this week.

I’d expect a short-term deal to be concluded between now and January, to give both sides a chance to check out the fit.

    What the……

  2. Careful With That Tax, Moonbeams on

Warby .. We kept on probing .. Moving the ball .. Tonight wasn’t our night ..

Silly goals to give away ..

    Innit!

  3. Only seen one other Sevco game this year, when they beat Hibs at Ibrox.

Totally unsurprised by tonight’s gubbing. If Hibs had a striker that day they would have won convincingly. As it was Sevco got a couple of sucker punches and the myth was born.

Seems clear to me the Breadman has them playing an utterly suicidal style of football. Their fullbacks have no defensive discipline, and their centre halves are painfully slow. They have a couple of right sand-dancers in the middle and a big fat lad up front.

They try to play a passing game, but lack the solidity to make this work. This means they are constantly losing the ball in dangerous positions. Saints simply pressured them tonight and they couldn’t handle it.

If we – or the Dons – had met them tonight we’d have hit double figures. I really hope this result gives all the drama queens on here pause for thought. They remain light years behind us on and off the pitch.

  4. Careful now..,

The Scottish establishment decided Celtic supporters are offensive because they are not breaking the law, so they should be criminalised for being Celtic supporters, aye that’s it, I personally think that’s quite important and an indicator of their plans for Scotland’s future.

But I suppose if your a gullible mug it’s excusable eh

  5. Burnley 78

Sorry, with repsect – what exactly does that prove?

We’ve been hearing about world record Ibrokes crowds since just after the original club expired.

It’s a bit like the regurgitation of the original Rangers records every time Sevco play against a team from a higher division e.g this is only the fifth time St Johnstone have ever beaten Rangers , instead of, the first time they’ve beaten Sevco.

Celtic’s League Cup attendances have no relevance, we don’t pretend to be interested at least until the later stages, and don’t even open the full stadium, when we win it, it’s still the secondary cup in most fans eyes i.e. it’s not the double.

For a Zombie I guess however, the League Cup is bound to big deal.

    Hail Hail

  6. Cowie

Thanks. Yes we had a nice we bit of luck with Nadir celebrating his first goal next to one of the signs.

The fans should not express too much disappointment if we lose these early games with weakened teams.

I always want us to win every game and play our best team to do it. I hate how the old Rangers used to get off to a flyer in the seasons a few years after BFDJ scored his famous goal by winning this.

The ally McCoist final, the terry butcher final, the Gordon smith one and so on.

I want to win the treble. I respect others don’t care.

My worry is an empty stadium suggests more are like you and our support don’t care too much. My fear is this translates to how the team think about it.

As jock once said. Football without fans is nothing ! HH.

    I do understand your comments,

    But

European competition is more important to us than the league cup, which is squeezed in between free weeks from that competition, until the final

I suppose what most of the rest in Scotland don’t get is European Football :-) so the League cup matters to them , not for me I’m afraid Bhud

Play our Youths and fringe players. in it through to the final, if we get there, may be worth even giving them the final, to get big game exposure

    Hail Hail

  12. Hello lads (and ladies)

    Good result today.

Hopefully, we can build on the weekend’s performance, and put a few past Raith tomorrow.

  13. And so on to tomorrow’s game. Please keep the number of changes to a minimum. 2 is enough, 3 at most. If we get to a commanding lead then bring on some more young guys.

  14. Notice for shareholders.

Once again the Celtic Trust are aiming to have a resolution put before the board at this year’s AGM to have Celtic as an accredited Living Wage employer.

To achieve this we need shareholders in Celtic to support this in sufficient numbers. All that would be required would be for you to complete a form and return it to me, electronic signatures are not permitted under Company House rules.

  15. Just another point on League Cup

I believe the gate money is shared between the 2 clubs ?

No disrespect to Raith Rovers who I do think well of – but I will fund Celtic only

European gate money at home goes to Celtic :-)

So Huns 4 results against Premiership teams in 2015 were:

lost 2-0 to (coasting) Hoops at Hampden in Cup

lost 3-1 to Motherwell at home in Play offs

lost 3-0 against Motherwell away in Play offs

lost 3-1 to St Johnstone at home in League Cup

Bet Ronny and the other Premiership managers will be shaking in their boots …

… could be laughter of course :-)

  17. Regarding rat Nevin. Still waiting on him commenting on the stickies sectarian songbook at the semi final. I’d watch that man die and not do anything to help. That’s the least he deserves. Harsh yeah but he’s scum.

  22. had a look in at zombiemedia (I know…. but it is so much fun after a result like today) …. after the initial shock, they are now convinced that they will buy one or two players in the next transfer window and will be world beaters ….

haven’t the heart to tell them (i) they dont have any money, and (ii) increasingly, I believe they will go under before the season is out.

  23. BGX,

Racism and Sectarianism in Scotland is a terrible entity that divides the country, however I do think it is decreasing as the population becomes more educated. Dinarsaurs can never be educated however.

But your constant derogatory reference to NO voters in the Indy Ref is equally divisive. At best the country can never move forward when you cannot accept the will of the majority of the Nation.

Apologies to the blog for taking the bait, but the digs are continual are are not helpful to healing division that still exists a year later.
