Short-term fix for staple Euro strategy

985

There’s always a bit of reticence signing a player who has been away from his previous club for four months. Carlton Cole hasn’t played since starting West Ham’s final games of last season, and presumably has only trained in isolation since then.

Expectations of a quick return, should Celtic offer him a contract, have to be tempered with the realisation that he’ll be at least a month away from full fitness, but by then we will be set to face Molde away.

One aspect of our play that will concern Ronny Deila is that we’re short of attacking variation. The high ball forward to Samaras, so long our staple on the road in Europe, is not an option. This will be the reason why Carlton is training at Lennoxtown this week.

I’d expect a short-term deal to be concluded between now and January, to give both sides a chance to check out the fit.

  1. Would like to see the manager go with 2 strikers tomorrow night and also allow least 1 youth player a game along with couple fringe players.

Nice to see tierney get a game.

  3. Greenside up …. surely, a championship team winning 11 in a row, and then losing by only two goals at home to a premiership team, has to be some sort of world record, isn’t it?

Tell me again about that sectarian and racist free wee country we inhabit?

  6. Mike in Toronto , That is another reason to be happy tonight. This defeat will further starve them of revenue.

Pretty much the same teams competing as The Scottish Cup and they are all trying to progress in every round as competitively so winning it is just as hard and possibly even harder for us than The Scottish considering our record in them.

Personally i want us to win anything we are competing in and without it, there would be no treble.

I think it really gives the support a fill up for the remainder of the season IF we do win it(i do anyway)and sets us up for the league run in plus The Scottish takes on greater importance because it may complete the treble.

    That’s just me though.

Maybe it is a hit too much in the pocket now with the European campaign being a saga.

Its a run in Europe now to just get into the groups so it is understandable if some supporters place it as the lowest priority and its another conundrum for the manager with so many games.

I will cheer as loudly as i would if it were The League or The Scottish we were winning.

I know he recently arrived in London.

Not sure whether he`s now in Glasgow.

  10. St Johnston could & should have been 4-0 up at half time, I wonder if that would have been another world record.

Competing for the SPFL title next season they said? Hahahahaha!

  11. Canamaler. I have no argument to expand upon on. Scotia is indeed an imperfect country but there is a new generation that I have every faith in that will make things better. HH

  12. Apathy is rank in the Celtic support and increasingly so.

It’s sad to see Celtic Park so empty just now.
