Six Celtic fans

1375

As six Celtic fans face the prospect of months in a Dutch jail if police evidence is preferred, take a look at this CCTV video from the Euro Pub in Dam Square:

This is no more than the strong bullying the vulnerable.  It is shocking and affected more than just Celtic fans, other innocent bystanders were picked on.

What can you do about it?  We’re looking for around 40 more bucketeers to collect before the Aberdeen game on Saturday for the legal defence of the six Celtic fans.  You’ll need to get to the stadium a bit early, bucket shaking will be required.  That’s all.

If you can help, email dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk for more information. You’ll enjoy it.

Thank you.

Remember the Q&A in the Columba Club, Blantyre, tomorrow. I’ll be there with Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville. Tickets available at the door, we get underway at 8pm. See you there.

If you have not been to Celtic Park since the last home game, be prepared for pandemonium around London Road on Saturday. No one will be able to walk or drive from London Road up Kerrydale Street to the Park. Check out the open routes here and get there early.

Fans Against Criminalisation have agreed, with the consent of the families, to set up a fund which will be used to assist those Celtic supporters who were beaten, wrongly arrested, falsely accused and remain targets of the Dutch judicial system. We have a pre-existing legal defence fund which contains funds donated to assist fans caught up in the Offensive Behaviour Act. Those funds will be ring-fenced and any donations between now and the close of this appeal will be used to assist those supporters caught up in terrible events in Amsterdam. We do not know, at this stage, how much will be needed, but any amounts donated will be disbursed to the two supporters currently in prison in Amsterdam and those who will have to return there for trial on 21 November. Any monies left over after their expenses have been met will be transferred to the FAC Legal Defence Fund unless donors specifically ask for them to be returned. The Fund will be administered by FAC which is made up of the Celtic Supporters’ Association, the Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters Clubs, the Association of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs, the Celtic Trust and the Green Brigade.

The emergency regime created by the Mayor of Amsterdam indeed meant that “trouble” was inevitable. Before the game the headlines in the Dutch press, who had been briefed by the police, were that Celtic supporters would be seeking revenge for what the Ajax supporters did at Celtic Park. The Dutch police and the Ajax casuals then set to work.

I hope you are right about the appeal. The judge yesterday was obviously not in the least bit interested in evidence, only in whitewashing the Dutch plain clothes cops.

  4. Corkcelt – cheers – while I generally laugh of the St Mirren stuff there are some posters who are trying to belittle/dismiss my views by its use. Dare I say it – tabloid smear journalism if ever I saw it.

Anyway I completely agree – we need to be united to defend our own against the injustice visited upon them. Sadly I cant help with the collection tomorrow but I will certainly be contributing. I am also delighted by JP Taylor’s twitter – a good sign I hope. Sometimes the support need the club to help them – this is definately one of these times.

As for the press in Scotland – they are an irrelevance and when we look back at some of the stuff written about the huns – they are a laughing stock.

  14. Three quick points made on the LSE RFC discussion board (from guys who ‘might’ know what they are talking about!?)

*Laxey Partners Ltd have purchased another 3,328,677 shares in RFC to become the biggest shareholder with 11.64%.

*Laxey Partners have a reputation for taking underperforming companies and turning them round for shareholder value. An interesting move …

*So Laxey announce they’ll vote with the current board.Along with the Easdales,Blue Pitch etc, control of RIFC is as good as assured.

Laxey have a reputation for screwing every company they get involved in for every last penny they can get.How do they get cash out of RIFC?.

    Here’s my suggestion(and that’s all it is,not backed up by any info,etc).

They sell Auchenhowie for between £7-9m.Not bad for a business that’s now worth £25-26m.They then rent out Ibrox & the car park to TRFC for around £2m per annum on a FRI basis.Beauty of this is TRFC have to maintain the assets as well as pay the rent.So they have an asset worth approx £17m bringing in rent of £2m P.A.At todays interest rates that’s a great return. No lose to them as the land value covers their investment.

TRFC fans better hope that Laxey catch a severe dose of “Rangersitis”.If they don’t this could be great news for shareholders of RIFC(No one on here or elsewhere actually owns shares in the football club),If you’re just a fan, however, things may not be looking too good.

  17. Phyllis Dietrichson on

    BRTH – interesting stuff.

This Noodbevel Law seems like a localised version of a State of Emergency or a modern version of reading the Riot Act, in which case it will presumablt be harder for the appeal to succeed, as the police were given extra powers because of this Law.

My question is though, did anyone know that the Noodbevel decree had been made? The club, the Scottish police, anyone? Also was it passed the day before the game, or on the morning of the match, or the late afternoon – when?

    Today’s “news “———–

El Shaarawy couldn’t complete a training session yesterday. It seems unlikely that he will be travelling to Glasgow.

Silvestre , De Sciglio and Nocerino are definitely out.

The media are continuing to run ” Milan in crisis” stories . Lots of tittle tattle stories re squabbles and fights in the dressing room and on the training ground . Rumors that Allegri has ” lost the dressing room “. Rumors that Allegri has accused some of the players of not giving 100 %.

Milan’s last game was v bottom of the table -Chievo . A 0-0 draw . A game which featured Chievo fans chanting ———–” We’ll see you in Serie B ”

Milan are currently 4 points above a relegation place . They play Genoa at the San Siro on Saturday night . Genoa are 7th in Serie A,4 points above Milan.Current odds suggest that the Bookies think Genoa have a right good chance..

See the article in the CQN magazine at the top of the page.

The Noodbevel was declared late in the afternoon when the Celtic fans had already been in the square for the majority of the day without incident.

Also, it specifically did not mention Celtic– but mentioned fans of Anderlecht, Dinamo Zagreb and St Pauli.

The Celtic fans in the square had no idea why the mood in the town centre changed over a period of minutes. One minute there was a party– the next the mounties and the riot squad.

Shocking governance and policing and guaranteed to cause mayhem.

  22. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We have seen similar reports below from other cities and Celtic fans have passed through peacefully but it appears that the Amsterdam police had enough and went for the visiting fans to prevent the incidents as described below.

It would appear that the intelligence for both legs of the game against Ajax was poor.

In Scotland the Scottish police did not do their home work on the Ajax hooligans and allowed them to wreck the stadium and break seats.

The Amsterdam police did not do their home work on the Celtic fans and they used heavy hand tactics with a group of supporters who have an excellent reputation and good relations with police forces abroad. Our support have a general folow police instructions when asked.

Not sure if the reports below can help the Bhoys who are jailed but it surely leads to inconsistencies. I can find no details of sentences like those meted out to Celtic supporters even though the charges described are very similar. The fans in both cases below were released. Not even any details of fines. Some were arrested the night before the game and released on the day.

It is highly inconsistent and the Celtic fans appear to be scapecoats for the Dutch police inability to deal with the holligan problem in their own country.

This case is making people very angry and rightly so but any action the fans take at Celtic park or anywhere else must be well thought out and organised.

    http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/more-arrests-in-amsterdam-ahead-of-ajax-682145

More arrests have been made in Amsterdam after further reports of violent clashes ahead of United’s clash with Ajax tonight.

Trouble flared close to the Old Sailor pub in the Dutch city this afternoon with rival supporters gathered on opposite sides of the canal.

They exchanged songs but the mood quickly turned sour and bottles were thrown.

Mounted Dutch police officers dispersed the Ajax contingent while snatch squads arrested a number of United fans.

A source in Holland said reports had also been received of an attack on a group of United fans in another bar.

The latest flashpoints come after officers arrested 88 fans last night in a bid to pre-empt any trouble.

In one incident 70 Ajax fans were surrounded in a cafe before being arrested. They will be held for 24 hours.

A group of fans from Krakow, in Poland, were also intercepted and ordered to leave the area by the mayor of Amsterdam. Supporters of Belgian club Anderlecht are also thought to have been among those held.

One British male was arrested on suspicion of assault. United sold out their allocation of 2,700 tickets for the Europa League clash at the Amsterdam Arena. The Reds received over 5,000 applications and large numbers without tickets are thought to have travelled.

United are not in action this weekend and that fact has swelled the travelling support. Officers from Greater Manchester Police are in Amsterdam to help with the security operation.

The return leg takes place at Old Trafford next Thursday.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/ajax-v-manchester-city-arrests-1397503

25 football fans have been arrested following clashes between Manchester City and Ajax fans in Amsterdam’s red light district.

Fighting broke out this afternoon between the two sets of fans, who are in the Dutch capital ahead of tonight’s Champions League match.

A spokesperson for the city’s police force said that arrests had been made for “public violence” offences after fans clashed.

It is not known how many City fans have been arrested, although the majority of those detained are believed to be local supporters.

Police were first forced called into action at 5pm local time when the trouble flared and arrests were made during the ensuing two hours before supporters began to make their way to the Amsterdam Arena.

Images of mounted police officers in riot gear carrying out charges were broadcast on Dutch television and posted on Twitter.

  23. KevJungle 09:32 on 22 November, 2013

Think the club, and indeed the fans, need to be careful here.

There is a reason why every away fan who is arrested does not have a bucket collection or indeed lawyers paid for by others. That reason is that they did something wrong.

In the case of Amsterdam some of those arrested did do something wrong, some didn’t, however, due to the brutality and non discrimatory method of policing there is an empathy here and a feeling of injustice.

The club cannot be seen to openly support any sign of violence no matter which side it emanted from.

Precedents could be set here where any fan who is arrested abroad may expect the same level of support, whic is simply impossible.

I all for supporting those arrested who are innocent but am a little wary of consequences.
