Six Celtic fans

1375

As six Celtic fans face the prospect of months in a Dutch jail if police evidence is preferred, take a look at this CCTV video from the Euro Pub in Dam Square:

This is no more than the strong bullying the vulnerable.  It is shocking and affected more than just Celtic fans, other innocent bystanders were picked on.

What can you do about it?  We’re looking for around 40 more bucketeers to collect before the Aberdeen game on Saturday for the legal defence of the six Celtic fans.  You’ll need to get to the stadium a bit early, bucket shaking will be required.  That’s all.

If you can help, email dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk for more information. You’ll enjoy it.

Thank you.

Remember the Q&A in the Columba Club, Blantyre, tomorrow. I’ll be there with Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville. Tickets available at the door, we get underway at 8pm. See you there.

If you have not been to Celtic Park since the last home game, be prepared for pandemonium around London Road on Saturday. No one will be able to walk or drive from London Road up Kerrydale Street to the Park. Check out the open routes here and get there early.

I have never worried about the behaviour of Celts abroad and I do not see any issues in Barcelona.

However, reading the reports from both Manchester clubs visiting Amsterdam the police should have known that the Old Sailor could have been attacked as it has been attacked before. Poor from the Dutch police.

The red light area appears to be where the Ajax hit squads circulate on numerous European match days. This was not made aware to travelling supporters. There were no details of areas to avoid and there was no suggested fan zone of bars where fans would be made welcome to enjoy the city and meet with club representatives and liase with the police in an orderly manner with issues.

Celtic’s own website gives a very general view of the city and has probably been sourced from the host club in accordance with some sort of UEFA guidline and doesn;t give more detailed potential flashpoint sites. This maybe something that CQN mag could take on or the supporters groups such as the association/affiliation/GB/etc.

It is quite clear that Celtic supporters have been proven guilty on the charges as a warning to other travelling fans. The authorities in Holland have been sick of the issue of crowd voilence in Amsterdam and have made examples of these Bhoys. The Ajax fans are the problem. They are the one constant through all the incidents of the last few years. There have been numerous arrests at almost every match involving Ajax in Europe where the visitors brought a sizable away support. There appears to be grandstanding in a sort of football hooligan/casual/ultra sort of way by both the police and the Ajax hooligans. Their mind set and that of most football mobs is that you won;t take over our stadium/city/banners/bars/etc. This was made evident with the fact they were not happy at their bar being occupied (The Old Salior). They were not happy at their square being occupied (Dam Square). They were also trying to pick off banners to grandstand in their ground which is a known ultra/casual/hooligan/etc tactic.

I had raised on here a few months ago about Celtic Supporters reading John O’Kanes book about the Celtic Soccer Crew. I was ridiculed for glorifying violence and being some sort of Danny Dyer type figure. I explained at the time and I will do it again that this is not the case. The world is changing as it always does and the football hooligan is on the rise again both here and abroad. Reading about it helps educate yourself of the mind set of these guys. You are travelling to cities and towns that may have many more than we have here. Their mentality is much different to the average football supporter. They get the buzz from fighting. They don’t stand down. They certainly do NOT like being outnumbered or being shown up in their own city. The Ajax fans and their police have both displayed typical hooligan behaviours from what I have read in various football hooligan/casual books.

This is the world we live in whether we like it or not and unfortunately not all other football supporters have the same mentality as Celtic fans.

I hope justice is seen to be done in Amsterdam and the Bhoys can prove their innocence and get home.

go back to Malpensa airport after the Cup final with Feyenoord when then entire airport went on strike and the only thing open was the bars.

The Celtic fans were in very low mood while the Feyenoord fans were jubilant. With no planes going anywhere and no airport staff working, the place got jammed to the rafters with opposing fans sitting side by side in very different states of mind.

There were fears of a riot and I know for a fact that the British Consulate was called and asked for help in clearing the situation– although they were as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

However, despite the tension and the uncomfortable circumstances there was not so much as an argument or a broken window– and eventually the airport got moving.

Whilst I can’t say there has never been any trouble concerning Celtic fans anywhere– you would think that the Noodbevel law would come under some scrutiny given its past?

    But no.

In recent years Celtic have traveled all over and in the main the destination has been delighted at the prospect of the Green pound coming to their locality.

So what went so wrong in Amsterdam?

Why is there always trouble in Amsterdam?

What is the common factor in teams and fans of all sorts seeing trouble— In Amsterdam?

The answer is obvious and will continue to be obvious until the authorities recognise they have the law and the system wrong— wrong— wrong!

No matter what the outcome of the appeal, no Celtic Supporter should EVER go near that hell-hole again, for any reason……there are prostitutes and drug addicts in EVERY city, but other Police forces don’t behave like those thuggish ‘defenders of the peace’ …… It is obvious they have ‘lost the plot’, and have forgotten the meaning of ‘reasonable force’.

I was there mate. There was no animosity between the opposing fans. There was no police antagonisms either. The biggest problem was when planes landed there were no airport staff and it was a supporters free-for-all as to which flights they boarded. Supporters followed scarfs and never looked at the planes livery. My own brother made his way back to Glasgow via Holland and whilst we waited for him in Glasgow airport, we waited with many Dutch supporters (waiting for flights to Holland) who had boarded our plane ( a Dan Air Trident III, booked by my old man, on behalf of the KSC (Bath St.), through your old man at the Partick X)

If we made a European final in Amsterdam there would 100, 000 plus fans would travel without a ticket. They’d be entitled to do so and expect to be treated humanely. Rightly so. No fans would have gone to Amsterdam with any other intention than to have a party. That the Dutch police decided to carry out their business in a thuggish manner reflects badly only on them, and does not warrant any questioning of why many chose to go without a ticket.

Whilst I could understand any of the convicted fans choosing not to return for trial, given the shambolic course of events in Holland yesterday, I truly hope they do return in order that witness statements and video footage can be witnessed and they can gain compensation and clear their names.

Given what we have seen and heard from reliable witnesses so far, and that includes the ridiculous admission of police violence against our support, it is in the interests of ALL fans of all clubs that the truth outs in this case.

In everything I have seen and heard so far, my only condemnation of any of the convicted is for the bhoy who threw the bottle. Whilst I can empathise with his panic at what was happening, he shouldn’t have launched the bottle.

Maybe we should call in the mayor of Seville as a character witness…….

The Dutch have done the fans over,no mistake.

But I wonder if the following-if an accurate representation of the judge’s comment-offers a get out clause for the appeal?

“The judge said he would not impose harsher sentences just because the victims were policemen – conceding that the fans may not have known this.”

If the fans did not know that it was policeman who were on the rampage, then they were justified in defending themselves against violence from an unknown party,no?

that night lives long in the memory in my house as it was my mum that took the tannoy in the airport and just started calling the planes out with a view to just emptying the airport and getting bodies on planes back to Glasgow.

As long as you could produce a ticket you got on any plane– it didn’t matter because if it was the right plane or not!

“”Arab” isn’t a pejorative term in this context like “redskins” is. And the nickname doesn’t come from a stereotype, it’s just a fact that the homeland of Arabs is quite sandy – and the pitch at Tannadice was covered in sand during a harsh winter in the 60s.

Situation would only be comparable if the nickname was a pejorative word for Arabs (e.g. “ragheads”) or it came from a negative stereotype (e.g. thieving).”
