Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

Its all about opinions, if mine is different from yours it’s not misinformation

if your opinion is that the Norwegian league is a high standard then so be it. I disagree though. And one reason Rosenburg qualified for the CL so often might be that they had no competition in the Norwegian league, if that is correct then maybe it’s not a high standard league after all.

Regarding fitness. I will seriously doubt that a club like Ronies has higher fitness standards than ours. You might claim that we died on our feet when playing one of Italys best, I might counter claim that none of Ronies team has even played against Italys best to know how well they would last.

Regarding your last point, im not really sure what these other three managers have got to with it

    Mullet and co

I never said or implied that celtic spent 50 million quid on fitness. If you need clarification I suggested that a team with a 50 million quid a year budget will likely have higher fitness standards and training regimes than a team of minnows. You can of course disagree, its all about opinions.

Maybe some Norwegian sides are better than some SPFL sides, I don’t disagree. But then again I never claimed that the SPL was a decent league either. It hasn’t been for quite a number of years now IMO, and to win the SPFL once every 6 years would not really be a major achievement.

Again i never suggested that we employ the 2 managers that you suggested and have no comment to make

    ……………………………………………………..

Agree with both of you. As I said before, it’s a small minority who seem to have had bad experiences and have allowed that to colour their judgement. The vast majority of people are sensible and supportive. I used to be a head teacher and I found that it was exactly the same with parents. A very high percentage were supportive of the school and the teachers and wanted the school to do well. The priorities for most parents of Primary school pupils was that they wanted their child to be happy at school and to make good progress in their education. They also did not want their child to be bullied by anyone – pupils or teachers. Those were also my priorities and the priorities of my staff.

So agree with your reply to billy bhoy.

Both my sisters are headmistress’s and the extra hours they put in is sadly not realised or appreciated by some, financially and sympathetically.

My older sisters school in the west end was recently refurbished, the stress it put on my sister had me really worried.

Teachers, yes, some good, some not so good, same as any occupation.

IT question: I’m looking for a good , reliable laptop for not huge amounts of money.

It would be needed for basic functions,e.g mail, spread sheets etc.

I would not need a high spec gaming type machine.

    Any suggestions?

  26. On the Teachers thing……I’m very proud to be the son a teacher and delighted that my”current wife *cough*…. is a teacher also………:)

Their work ethic, sense of responsibility and professionalism makes me humble and also a little embarrassed – working in the private sector I earn more than double that of Mrs Bankiebhoy, while there are fewer holidays and pressure of a different kind – what they do, like the nurses doctors and carers in our society has a real and genuine impact on society and the next generation……..

    …to my main point tho’…………

The pop-up ‘character(s)’ having a sleekit go, has imo a purpose and that is to goad and distract the blog.

This goes beyond diversity of opinion and sneaks in covert and blatant thuggish attitudes and aggression more synonymous with fans of the dark side.

The apparently drunk moonhowling? – nothing more than a charade.

I’m delighted that this Dear Green Place is a broad church of opinions and personalities, but it is what we have in common that unites us – these personalities change with the seasons of course ( the sleekits much more often!) and that as a social group of Celtic fans we welcome those into the support of the club and offer hospitality to those strange coves who choose to support a club other than The Famous Glasgow Celtic…

….but imo we must be on our guard to see the attacks on the blog for what they really are….the work of those who neither support Celtic or CQN.

Now, who would do such a thing?

    HH.

  27. i know a teacher who was in the pub last night

    shocking, on a school night

i counted at least 2 pints of heavy being thrown down his throat in the space of only 3 hours or so

i hope his pupils didn’t breathalyze him this morning as he staggered in the school gates

luckily the bar in the staff room opened at 9am for a curer!

on an unrelated note, the school my old man used to teach in had a pool table in the staff room

I used to hone my pool skills on that table when i was allowed to sit in there and wait for him, though im going back 30 years when i was at the primary school just along the road!

Wim Jansen is remembered as a Celtic great because he won the league and stopped the 10, winning the league with 74 points with a fit Henrik Larsson for the full season.

The John Barnes/Kenny Dalglish era is remembered as the biggest fiasco in modern times(well until Tony Mowbray) and they got 69 points, having been without the services of Larsson for most of the season due to a horror injury.

MON came in and blew them all out the water and now some people don’t like him!

    Its a funny old game.

Just shows you how measuring ourselves against the EBT mob skewed our expectations but we were always going to prevail in the end…
