Soon the world will know, you were not paranoid after all

Tonight Sevco accepted all outstanding penalties attributable to the SFA membership of soon-to-be-liquidated Rangers.  They also agreed that if Rangers are found to have cheated for over a decade by illegally registering players that they will be subject to whatever penalties Rangers would be due, in order to acquire Rangers SFA membership.

Only a week ago Ally McCoist insisted he would not be party to such a deal, it remains to be seen if that they were empty words.

The Scottish Premier League will now continue with its inquiry into the alleged dual-contracts Rangers operated during the Sir David Murray era.  I confidently predict the findings will reveal Rangers did not operate within the same rules as every other club, since at least the last century.  The former club will be stripped of all league titles and cups.  Celtic will be awarded league titles for 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011, creating a new Scottish record of 12 consecutive league championship wins.

Sevco will be liable for any punishment due for these years of operating with shadow contracts, the likely severity of which will reflect the enormity of the offence.

Should the First Tier Tribunal find that Rangers evaded paying up to £75m of social taxes, which is explicitly against Fifa and SFA rules, the SFA disciplinary tribunal will punish Sevco, the successor club now due to inherit Rangers SFA membership.

If you are on the receiving end of this, the future will appear daunting.  If you stood at Rugby Park, Fir Park, Celtic Park, St Mirren Park or Caledonian Stadium, when Celtic effectively or actually ‘lost’ league titles while observing the rules, the cumulative effects of punishments on a rival are meaningless, you will want trophies awarded to those who were prepared to endure defeat while observing the rules.

One day soon the world will know, you were not paranoid after all!

Great comment by Burghbhoy earlier. The thing that still bothers me is those two cheats from across the city Ally and Walter carried Tommy Burns coffin.

    Makes me sick.

  5. I don’t want their stinking titles. I’d be happy for the record books to say (cheated) after each title.

They cannae even die with dignity;they are being dragged kicking and screaming to their just desserts-which are a consequence of their actions over the years, and NOT a punishment.

  11. Implicit in all of this is that the footballing authorities are proceeding on the basis that newco huns are inheriting oldco’s history. That the club’s history is continuing uninterrupted.

    That’s unacceptable.

And it’s time Celtic made that clear.

    To all Aussie CQNers . . .

On Sunday evening at 8:30 on ABC1, don’t miss the first of a 2-part drama “Birdsong” based on the wonderful novel of the same name by Sebastian Faulks.

I know nothing of the TV drama, and am basing my enthusiasm purely on the book, which is a classic.

  14. Pleasant Balmy Summers Morning here in the Chilterns…

Interesting lead by Paul, seems more sure of the situation than the BBC or Joint statement would suggest.

Been reading this site to long not to accept Mr 67’s take.

However I find it incomprehensible that any CEO never mind the Cautious Mr Green would expose their Pheonix to the potential of taking unlimited liabilities of an OldCo.

If RFC are found guilty of dual contracts the consequent penalties for The Rangers F C are huge.

If the EBTs are found to be illegal and the SFA impose sanctions to The Rangers F C, why wouldn’t HMRC do the same?

What about other potential misdeeds, Mark Daly’s expose hinted at a lot more going on below the surface and my understaning is the SFO are investigating. Where would The Rangers F C be on this count? If wrongdoing goes back to last century when RFC were in the SFL, could they take action against one of their Clubs?

I find it staggering that Mr Green hasn’t indemnified the NewCo from all liabilities of the OldCo. Is he really going to put his Company in a position by whatever part of his Club is dependant on R@ngers he is willing to lose?

Now if he has said this much but no more, with the known knowns, the known unknowns and the unkown unkowns it would take Lawyers in the Genius bracket to make that deal watertight.

All due respect to Paul67 but I reckon I’ll hold fire on my judgement on this one till that fat lady exercises her tonsils.

Big week for The Celtic, a good performance against Inter and onwards to the CL, would be a good start.

  15. Big Mike –

I can understand your frustration, but you know what?

Every time I start to think of how corrupt the whole setup is, I remind myself that Rangers are, if they play at all this season, going to play in the 3rd division. The 3rd divison. That was down to the fans of every other club in Scotland.

I remember when Phil and RTC started taking about EBTs and the possibility of the huns heading for the financial abyss, they both were at pains to point out that there was no chance of them going into liquidation. They talked about administration, but warned us all against fantasising about them actually going bust.

Nobody expected CW to drag the huns into even deeper trouble than they were already in.

I hope there is more pain to come for that mob, a lot more, but I am more than happy with what has happened to them so far.

I think CG has scored a spectacular own goal by speaking out publicly against Celtic. Any thoughts Celtic had of holding their own counsel and allowing events to take their course will now be blown out of the water, if I know Peter Lawwell.

The gloves will be off now and it could start to get very interesting.

  21. Morning all. Paul, your take on this fiasco is much more optimistic than that of posters on Rtc… I have to admit I see this as a defeat for integrity and justice given that sevco simply do not fit any of the requirements for an SFA license. The fix is in and I fear stripping of titles etc will now be kicked into the very very long grass.

I do hope however that Celtic will robustly challenge Greens assertion that Celtic is similarly a Phoenix club. This is a scandalous accusation and needs immediate and scornful rebuttal.

  22. Socks round the ankles and no shinnies on

Some of my best days and nights have come after seeing Celtic lift trophies. The journey home from Dundee the night big Jan clinched Tommy’s title will live with me forever, as will so many other great nights surrounded by some of my best mates.

In contrast, I vividly remember that mob’s buses passing ours on the way home from Kilmarnock in 2003 and feeling physically sick .

Despite this, I don’t want their trophies when(not if) they are stripped of their titles. I cannot go back in time to celebrate these victories, and surely that is the point of following your club – to share in the highs and lows at the right timr.

I would like the record books to show these trophies were withheld. That way when my nephew is a little older and asks who won the league in 2005 I can reply “nobody wee man, that mob cheated”.

Never let it be forgotten what they have done, not just to Celtic, but to countless teams across Europe.

  23. BOBBY MURDOCH’S…

Top of the morning to you!

You are correct about the Fiorentina ‘situation’. They were liquidated at the end of the 2001/02 season, and a newco was set up under the new owner, Andrea Della Valle a local ‘shoe magnate’! They were prohibited from using the old name and also the club crest. They applied for a Serie B licence, were refused and were sent to Serie C2 (the 4th tier).

They won their group the following season, but instead of being promoted to Serie C1 the Italian football authorities promoted them to Serie B on the grounds of ‘sporting merit’! Over the course of the next couple of years Della Valle was somehow able to buy back the original Fiorentina name and crest, for a reported sum of €2 million! Do you see a pattern developing here?!

Couldn’t possibly happen to Zombie FC! Could it?!

    FMBampots CSC

  24. Fat Sally greetin again. I assumes the compliance officer will take note. I wonder who will get the death threats today after this outburst.

    Fat, petulant, cheatin hun…

In my years in professional football, I have not always agreed with everything the SFA did or said. But, no matter what you thought of their decisions, there was no doubt they ran the game firmly and robustly.

“I can only imagine Ernie Walker looking down on us now and shaking his head in

disbelief at the sad state of affairs and the way they have been mishandled. “As for the SPL, they seem determined to pursue as hostile an agenda as possible towards Rangers.

“They kicked us out of the SPL – which was their right- and we acknowledge that – but that doesn’t seem enough for Neil Doncaster and some of his board. “Not only as they withholding our SPL prize money for last season – they won’t tell us how much it is but we reckon it to be about £1.3million.

“And having said they don’t want us – they do want a bigger share of the TV money that our presence will bring to the SFL and its clubs. Never mind sporting integrity – where is the moral integrity there?”

McCoist added: “And there is no line to be drawn in the sand. Rangers have not been punished enough in their eyes and along with one or two people who have

a vested interest within SPL clubs, our right to past titles will be challenged.

“They want what we and our fans bring, yet seem determined to strip us of every bit of our dignity. It has to stop. “It is now over five months since Rangers went into administration. It is time to start playing football again – and I am not alone in thinking this. “In recent days I have bumped into Celtic, Hearts and Motherwell fans, and

they were saying the same thing – “It’s time to stop kicking Rangers and start getting Scottish football looking forward not back”.
