SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

The Tim Reaper, thanks for posting the etims link about Rosenborg .

It will be a very tough game tomorrow night , even tougher with our defensive and possible attacking issues .

Going by the etims article , we may have to play 4 at the back with Ralston maybe coming in at right back, Mikael and Jozo along with Kieran.

We may have to be very patient tomorrow night.

Nice to see Jim McInally ‘s Peterheid beat Hearts tonight

A friend of my son is barred from the game tomorrow, Sunderland on Sunday and Rosenborg next Wednesday. He will attend all three games. Sledgehammer to crack a nut will not work.

  4. I think Rosenborg are under rated on here and in general. They are a good side and will be organised, fit and determined. If we are a bit off our game we will struggle. Nothing is to be taken for granted, it’s all to play for. Any ideas of killing the tie tomorrow night are fanciful. As ever, a win and clean sheet would be great outcome.

  5. Tricky to know what good result is tomorrow night.

6 ties tonight. 2 home wins 2 draws and 2 away wins.

Total goals scored 5 at home and 7 away.

Given our resources and ability to score away from home a 1 nil n

    Would be a good result.

  6. From BR’s press conference it’s looking like Ajer at centre half and Rogic as striker tomorrow night. He also says that he expects Ralston and Miller to step up this season and may not sign an Izzy replacement

Delaney’s , I don’t know how my son has done it, but he is going to the game . I hardly see him as if he is not working in his part time job , he is out with his pals.

I ‘ll find out when he gets back from the game tomorrow .

My only coment about the Green Brigade is that some posters on this site who appear vehemently opposed to them , never made any posts commending the Green Brigade for their support of Scott Sinclair in our first home game after he was racially abused at Ibrox .

I’m expecting incoming because of the above and i know who it will be from at this time of night.

Stupidity?.Since when did tying a scarf thrown at you from your own fans,to a goalpost ,in front of your own fans become a crime?.

    ===================================================================

Since UEFA made the rules .

Oh right. So you know that “The tying of a scarf to a goalpost”is prohibited by UEFA?.

Starry.Yes I know, but the booking was so ridiculous, that Celtic could have questioned it.At least avoid the UEFA sanction of the fine the booking got us.

Apart from the obvious injuries and barmy suspension my apprehension is governed by

    3 things .

1 Celtic have had their fair share of forgetful nights in European competition .

2 . Rosenborg are halfway through their season ( match sharpness is huge ) 3 . I’m a pessimist , glass half empty guy until I get a pre match pint .

I didn’t say it was a crime. I said it was stupid as in

” having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense.”

LG is paid well to play football, act professionally and rise above provocation.

I’ll bet that if you ask him he will say himself it was stupid, acknowledging he let his emotions take charge of his brain.

We can all do it but live to regret it.

  19. Boss Kare Ingebrigtsen believes Rosenborg’s fitness levels will be key in their Champions League third round qualifier against Celtic.

The Norwegian outfit are top of the Eliteserien after 17 matches – losing twice – while the Hoops have yet to start the defence of their domestic title and have played just two qualifiers against Northern Irish part-timers Linfield, whom they thrashed 6-0 on aggregate.

Ingebrigtsen, whose side required extra-time to see off Dundalk from the Republic of Ireland in the previous qualifier, believes the Scottish champions are favourites to go through into the play-off but is hoping the difference in match practice proves crucial.

Speaking at Celtic Park head of the first leg, the former Manchester City midfielder, said: “For us it is good that the season hasn’t started yet in Scotland.

“We have played 17 games and we have improved throughout the season and hopefully we are at our best tomorrow.

“History shows that it is an advantage for Rosenborg to be halfway through the season and all the opponents we meet – except Dundalk – struggle because it is really early in the season for them.

“Hopefully Celtic aren’t at their sharpest. But we can’t just defend, we have to create problems. The away goal is really important to us so we are coming here to score a goal.”

Celtic will be without banned striker Leigh Griffiths while Moussa Dembele is a doubt with a hamstring injury.

The possibility of Rodgers being without his two central strikers gives Ingebrigtsen encouragement.

He said: “They are great players but I looked at the squad of Celtic and they have 40 or 50 players and they have some good players.

“Both those players scored over 20 goals last year and of course they will miss them. Hopefully they don’t play.”

Ingebrigtsen, however, got little encouragement from former Celtic boss Ronny Deila.

His fellow Norwegian was replaced by Rodgers last summer, returning home to manage Valerenga.

Somewhat tongue in cheek, the Rosenborg boss said: “Ronny didn’t give me much. I think he is more of a fan of Celtic than of Rosenborg so I don’t trust what he said to me.

“But it was more about what we can expect at Celtic Park. The rest of it, he just told me to do my job.”

Skipper Mike Jensen believes Rosenborg will need to show courage at Celtic Park, especially during the expected early onslaught.

He said: “It’s a big challenge for us. They are maybe the best team we have played for a long time but we need to focus on ourselves.

“Everyone will agree that they are the favourites to go through but the best version of Rosenborg will beat the second best version of Celtic.

“We will have chances and I hope we have the courage to take them. We will have a go. It’s not in our style to defend deep for 90 minutes.

“Courage is the key word for us. There are going to be periods in the game when the courage will be challenged, especially in the first 10 minutes.

“They will come out with a lot of energy and we need to handle that early pressure.”
