SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

Episode 5 of The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind comes hot on the heels of one of the club’s most controversial European ties in recent memory.

I suggested some kind of CQN open meeting. You would think i was asking for 20 million quid.

We often slag the hun, but at least they stick together.

If it wasnt for Celtic supporters fighting to save their club, in the Celts for Change days, you wouldnt be going to see Celtic in the Champions League tonight, that is for certain.

    So think about that.

  6. GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL @ 3:27 PM,

From Paul67’s lead, I would say it’s the 5wa that needs to be tackled.

Of course it hasn’t been published so I’m not sure of its contents.

It is obviously a flawed document so sticking to the letter of it and breach of contract maybe a nightmare.

Under the terms NewCo were bound to take on Rangers Football debt and Sanctions, as they are running the same Club.

Today we see the SPFL asked Senior Counsel, if this would still apply if Oldco was finally wound up.

Well the whole point of this was to promulgate the “Club” Continuity, that the Club is separate from the Company. Now any pre Aug 2012 Club debts, Sanctions are not the Clubs…

Come on… This is 5wa is definitely unravelling.

You wouldnt be going to Celtic Park tonight to see European Football, if Celtic supporters had just given up to the Biscuit Tin mob.

No, Celtic supporters fought, and in the end, ‘The game is over, the rebels have won’

Remember that tonight as you cheer Celtic on.

Don’t worry, the PLC will do this, do that…..

apart from, look the other way, negotiate TV deals to keep the huns alive and, give Celtic supporters details to the cops, what else have they done ?

Oh, ah for goat, they banned Hugh Keevins as well !

I’ll sleep a lot easier now.

  13. First and foremost i would be happy with a cleansheet tonight concidering squad absentees and Rosenborg being midway through their season .

I think whoever the midfield are there’s goals in them .

I saw a handful of games involving Kilmarnock and Ajer looked overawed ,if he plays…. maybe with better pros round him he’ll cope .

The biggest mistake Celtic made was not replacing like with like when their QC Paul McBride died in 2012. He was some guy, I remember him calling the SFA “the laughing stock of world football”, he was right then and he’s still right today. Think we must have replaced him with the invisible man.

Great posts from BRT&H and Yourself… Youse give us hope.

As far as the disrepute charge goes, didn’t the SFA LNS Inquiry (Circa March 2012) deal with this?

The case was put before an SFA Disciplinary Tribunal and done Mr Whyte and Rangers.

D&P refused to take the sanction – 1 year transfer embargo – and took it to Court (the case is referenced by the SPFL’s QC today) .

The Court found in D&P’s favour (it might have been ultra vires:))))

Now of course that Sanction was eventually agreed by Charles Green in the 5 wa.

Don’t know if this helps or hinders.

    From 2011….

THE SFA were last night branded “the laughing stock of world football” by one of Scotland’s top lawyers.

Scottish football’s governing body came under fire after they quashed the two-game ban imposed on Ally McCoist in the wake of his infamous touchline bust-up with Neil Lennon on March 2.

Paul McBride QC, who fought Lennon’s case and won the battle to have his four-game suspension run in tandem with a previous ban he was serving, reacted with fury to the decision to clear McCoist and not ban El Hadji Diouf and Madjid Bougherra, all of whom had been charged with disciplinary breaches.

Both players were handed fines, while McCoist walked free and insisted the decision was a triumph for common sense.

But McBride disagreed and said: “This decision is incoherent and thoroughly dishonest. The rationale is that Neil Lennon, who was the recipient of abuse, is given a four-match ban and the person dishing out the abuse receives no ban.

“In addition, El Hadji Diouf, who abused the Celtic manager, who was involved in a confrontation with the Celtic physiotherapist and who threw his top towards the crowd in front of a police officer at the end of the game, received no ban.

“And Mr Bougherra, who assaulted the referee when being shown the red card, is also given no ban.

“I think officially tonight we now know the SFA to be the laughing stock of world football.

“So in all of these circumstances, the SFA’s right to maintain any credibility has completely evaporated.

“This makes our governing body look beyond stupid and Rangers may have been the beneficiaries of today’s result but they may not be tomorrow and that’s why we have to tear this particular building down and start building it again in everyone’s interest.

“I never thought the SFA were biased or prejudiced but now hearing what they have done today it’s very hard to escape that conclusion.”
