The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to. This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.
If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).
The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

I have no idea who this individual the Duke is on Rangers Media. In one post he talk about his Blog in The Record. Who knows.
From 1pm on Monday Rangers supporters were able to post very confidently that it was a NFA. And make some horrendous claims of collusion against Celtic Plc.
The Duke made some bold statements. Unfortunately the prediction of NFA is 100% on the money.
The Board of Celtic Plc can easily redeem their tarnished reputations of course.

There comes a time when Celtic PLC ( as a business, as a club, as the representatives of the Celtic support within the SFA and SPFL and at UEFA ) have to come out and say “This is wrong, it has been wrong for years and it needs fixed now.”
There have been all sorts of reasons for that not happening before now, some of which you may disagree with, some of which you may accept, but as of today there is going to be a review.
The alternative to a review is no review. The do nothing alternative, the Pontius Pilate route.
That route is no longer an option and so a review there will be.
Do we trust the SPFL and the SFA to conduct a fair and honest review?
Left to their own devices, not a chance and so Celtic must play an active part in determining the scope of the inquiry and what evidence is before it.
How do they do that? They go third party. The SPFL have hinged all on legal interpretation and judgement. Celtic must go the same way — bring in a top firm of lawyers and experts, present known evidence and expert opinion which at the very least counters any rigged, restricted and sycophantic SPFL mouthpiece, and they should do what Res 12 was designed to do namely highlight all the failings, all the contradictions and irregularities to UEFA and if necessary the CAS.
No one should be afraid of the facts anymore. They are known, they are provable, they are examinable and once examined there can be no doubt that there will be a need for further action and activity no matter what any press statement says today or tomorrow or 5 years ago.
Now, you may not get all you want out of this process, you may not agree with every interpretation and nuance, and you may have to accept that at the time there were no specific rules to deal with this or that.
But you know what? That is where CAS comes in. It deals with shit like that. It deals with sports rules and the absence of sports rules but many people in sport just don’t want to go there.
But you are correct. Celtic have a role to play and it is a big role.
Regrettably, it would appear that unless they are forced (once again) very few clubs in Scotland want a bit part and are happy to leave it to Celtic to give a one man performance.
Now that, amongst other things, makes me very annoyed. Very annoyed indeed.
BTW the point about the detail of the press statement etc being released on Rangers media is far from lost.
I think that is an excellent point and indeed I think it is excellent that Rangers Media boasted of their advance knowledge.

I watched Rosenborg in both matches against Dundalk and my opinion at the time was that Celtic will have too much pace for the Norwegians. The loss of Griffiths and possibly Dembelle is no doubt a handicap but Celtic have no shortage of good players. Young McGregor is a goalscorer and could do well in this game and our new man Jonny Hayes will come on at some stage. Two or three for Celtic and a clean sheet.

Given that BSR is rarely wrong I’ve invested 20 shillings on his 4-0 score prediction at odds of 18/1. Was going to delay betting until I saw the team but fortune favours the brave.
Ok, I may be a wee bit slow understanding things so would someone kindly explain to me the following.
Given that it has now been proved in the highest court in that land that Rangers 1872 (RIP) was ‘at it’ in regards to EBTs and that, by their own admission, the (Illegal) use of EBTs allowed them to sign players they couldn’t otherwise have afforded therefore giving them an unparalleled (unfair) advantage over other SPL teams. In other words they cheated and in doing so deprived other teams in the SPL millions of pounds in revenue.
What is stopping Celtic making a statement to the world press that Rangers 1872 were a bunch of tax dodging charlatan cheats – proven in the highest court in the UK. And at the same refer to Scottish footballs refusal to carryout a full and impartial investigation into the EBT years while allowing that investigation to retrospectively strip titles and cups won.
Feck what the other clubs want. Can you really imagine if it would have been Celtic caught cheating – we would have had the titles and other trophies striped and voided long ago.

There was only one club in the focus of the LNS Commission, the FTT, UTT, Inner Court of Session and Supreme Court hearings, one, but I can pretty much guarantee that the ‘Independent Review’ will not be about that club or its’ actions. It simply will not be. The Review will follow and apply the logic inherent in the advice given by QC, ie no revisit, no appeals, no new proceedings, but rather an oversight of the way the SFA, SPL and SPFL examined the issues, and addressed them by rewriting the rule book after the fact.
And so it goes….
