SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess, “Will you marry me?” The Princess said, “NO!” And the Prince lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and broads and hunted and fished and raced cars and went to naked bars and dated women half his age and drank whiskey, beer and Captain Morgan and never heard bitching and never paid child support or alimony and kept his house and guns and never got cheated on while he was at work and all his friends and family thought he was cool as hell and he had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up.

Mulgrew, Ledley, Forrest, Matthews and Ki are probably the only 5 who I would consider giving a new contract to, but they all have 3+ years left anyway with the exception of Ki.

So just Ki then (I wouldnt give him one either but thats just a personal opinion). Hardly seems credible that the squad are up in arms about his contract.

  8. Latest injury list according to the Herald

“Emilio Izaguirre, Scott Brown, Kelvin Wilson and Mohamed Bangura have been joined on the injury list by Mark Wilson, Joe Ledley and Charlie Mulgrew. Badr El Kaddouri and Thomas Rogne are ineligible and Ki Sung-Yueng has a virus.”

We’re going to have to score a lot of goals tonight…

  12. Good morning Hoopy Campers.

Tom English in The Scotsman today (linked to on the CQN front page) has a good article which articulates a thought that’s been nagging at me since Neil threatened to “name and shame” certain players.

Whether he likes it or not, he is stuck with these players. They will decide whether he succeeds or fails in his job. Levelling them in front of the media was not the cleverest thing Lennon ever did. Sure, he’s done it before and he got a reaction from them, most notably after the Ross County debacle. But he’s tried it a number of times this season and it hasn’t worked. Have they stopped listening to him? Has he lost the dressing room? You really have to wonder.

It is said that he has two games in which to save his job. Nobody outside the key people at Celtic know whether that is true or not, but, hopefully, it isn’t. Lennon has promise as a manager, but he has lost his way these past few months. Those who hailed him last season are now beginning to turn and those who played for him in his first season seem a little demotivated to do the same again. Berating them in public might play well with the press and the punters, but it won’t have sat well with the one group he really needs on his side – the players.

This is a giant hole that Lennon is in. And, on Sunday against Motherwell, he had better start climbing to get out of it.

This season’s travails have come as a surprise and a disappointment. But the players didn’t suddenly become bad players, and our manager didn’t suddenly become a bad coach or a bad leader of men.

People’s opinions and attitudes and approaches to things change, sometimes very rapidly. This applies to the manager and the players as much as it does to the fans.

Neil and his players still have it in them to be formidable. (thumbsup)

Still doesn’t sound right. Kayal has his contract, does Ki even want one ?

If these well paid players, who threw away the league last year and are in the process of being out of it before Christmas this year, are blaming Peter Lawell …… then I give up.

I think we need to install some large mirrors at Lennoxtown so that they can have a long hard look at themselves.

Of course the rumour just might be nonsense.

Is there anyone who still gives Willie Collum the benefit of the doubt as to his MIB allegiances.

It seems to me he never gives any major calls against the Huns and always seems to miss the obvious infractions by their players…….as well as giving penalties to them ad hoc….even a penalty against Celtic he couldn’t have possibly seen.

And then there’s also the Naismith tackle……he was looking directly at it only 6/7 metres away.

Correct the rumour may well be nonesense, time will tell. What is neither rumour nor nonesense is that out team is drastically underperforming this season and certain individuals appear to be playing with minimal effort.

Remember that Tom English`s article was written the day AFTER Neil said that he had no problems with any of his players. Also, quite a number of those players have come out and publically backed Neil and agreed that they are to blame, not him.

You seem a bright guy. Ask yourself what English`s intention is in writing this article.

  26. The European Club Association (ECA) is the body which represents the European Football Clubs across the 53 UEFA member associations and they have been the body which has signed the agreement with UEFA.

The feeling from the ECA is that if many clubs are currently losing up to €100million a year then in the near future there will be a huge problem in relation to the financing of many clubs. Football clubs in Europe generate huge sums of money but currently are spending more than ever before, many feel that this is a position which simply cannot continue. With the money currently being made in European football it is felt that the clubs have enough time before the regulations come into effect to get their houses in order.

Is John McLelland still the vice chairman and Joan La porta still chairman of this association.
