SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  1. popped into BBC.co.etc to read about Arry liking James and what Neil has to say about it. And I was taken by the photo of James in the hoops.

And obviously the notion of a London being in for a Celtic player is in my head. But I got a realisation, a deja vu (It was like it all over again…) – I see the player in the Hoops and I think (without a heartbeat) – above all other things. I see the hoops and… for every argument and ton of sense and trophies that Man U might have – or who ever the rich dandies are this season, or were last season – or the calibre of player that struts their stuff in the EPL…

… I can’t see past the hoops. A disconnect I’m sure. But I can’t see anything better or more enticing or more rewarding. I don’t see a team with a better pull then the team that wears those hoops.

And I know I’m biased. And I know I’m pro Barca. And I know who’s top of Seria A.

But they’re no Celtic. And they never will be.

And that’s the jump my head makes every time.

So thanks young James Forrest. Just remember – it’s better to travel hopefully than to arrive…

    Agreed m8…

I just wish our board would take a gamble now and again when we need it and i thought they would’ve learned their lesson after the fletcher scenario.

Hearing that Media House have not been paid ‘one single penny’ for their services so far.

  4. Kilmarnock and Hearts would be good to go bust.

We’d drop 1 point of those gained thus far this season; the orcs drop 7. And then another 10 when they hit their own insolvency event.

Stories like that really put it into perspective.

Screwing over small companies who have been trading by honest means and hard work for decades. Offering them large contracts where the value of the work is too much for them to reject; agreeing credit terms. Then walking away and leaving them to go bust.

It’s absolutely disgusting behaviour, and certain peepil with the the right kind of legal advice, seem to know how to duck and dive and make their “billions”? doing that to countless companies. Criminal is not the word.

I can’t even start to believe it…until something concrete happens…then the bunting comes out….( mental note to order green and white bunting),

I do not rate any of them very highly.

Loovens relaxed attitude towards bouncing balls annoys me most but he has been in reasonable form when called upon (playing for a contract?)

Darren O’Dea is, I feel over-rated, and basically failed to hold a place before. Maybe he has improved at Leeds but I would argue Hooveld has been even more impressive for a better team.

Of the 3, Dan was the one I liked best but it was the Dan of last season that I liked. He seems to have lost a lot of confidence with us. Dan clears his lines, talks and organises but is very slow.

The basic answer to which CH I would go for is, as with GL2, Stephen McManus

Interesting times for our CEO given the possible ADMIN scenarios – which players do you ring-fence?

    Those that you can develop/sell-on?

Walk away from those that you would need to pay £20K per week – when a £10K per week player might suffice in a new set-up?

It’s an interesting point, and most of will feel the same i suspect :)

But…aye there’s a but….the way things are here, i couldn’t blame any young player for developping elsewhere. Career threatening challenges every weekend with no protection from MIBs, crap football to compete against, the list goes on.

The Maestro dedicated his career to us, but was rewarded with playing in the decade when the huns benefitted from their financial doping. Part of me wishes he could have demonstrated his Celtic-given talents and skills elsewhere in Europe as he more than anyone deserved it. He could have slotted into the modern day Barca :) (which is where we should be of course).

Ha, you offer 3 and select a 4th!!! I suppose it is a case of careful what we wish for. We were happy to chase Big Mick and in hindsight he is probably the best we have had for a while. Hindsight always easy to use.

I do worry how players seem to play better for other teams though (Hoovield-Soton, Big Dan-Sweden, Mick-Ipswich) and wonder whether it is the coaching at CP and/or the pressure of the fan’s expectations that turn in some Mr Messy (from the Mr Men) performances!

Huns online are as desructive as they are on the streets. With the success of the internet it produces fantastic things such as this site, but the other extreme is that the basic hun is being educated in the skills of sleekitness. That’s evident on the street when they go Tim-hunting and they kid on they’re Irish or Celtic supporters to dig us out. Online, they engage in blatant lying and transferrance (labelling us with their own faults). That’s why fholks are senstitive about the kind of gossip being shared. Our foe is sleekit and evil. Then there’s Meeja Hoose being paid to distract us from discussing hun oblivion :)

“Their good fortune….is that (correct me if I’m wrong, Graham [Speirs] ) UEFA have no jurisdiction on what happens in City Centres. They will confine themselves to what happened inside the City of Manchester stadium, and to what Peter described here as, scenes of joyous celebration”.

But he’s no hun. And he knows his history. (Which makes some of his meeja-induced opinions harder to bear >:(( )
