It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.
Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame. As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.
Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”. Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.
If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.
Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time. The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.
If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills? Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

Hearts position is significantly worse than the Huns, in that they owe Mad Vlad something like 40million, with no hope of ever paying that back. If he pulls the plug they are completely stuffed – they lose everything.
At least the Huns will have the chance to set up a Newco (possibly). Vlad has the power to completely finish Hearts forever.

Campbell Ogilvie must have seen this was on the cards.
He was put in place at the SFA earlier this year. I’d be surprised if their strategies hadn’t already been long in place.
Will be interesting to see how the meeja report on this one. They’ll be keen to do so, but how can they then justify their failure to report on the big huns. Cue Captain Jack Irvine to the rescue.

Am I right in thinking that this is the third winding up order that Hearts have faced in recent years ? . My addled old brain thinks the previous 2 related to tax payments to HMRC — in both cases Hearts payed the necessary bill . My addled old brain thinks that the prat of a Labour hack-politico who was a big cheese at Hearts complained that someone at HMRC had it in for Hearts . ——-I could be totally wrong !

As I said, this is the moment Celtic have been waiting for. In order to save Rangers, and justify it afterwards, the SFA and the SPL must first make the case for saving Hearts. This is when we must frame our arguments. Sporting integrity. Commercial responsibility. We must point out the legal arguments against it, we must point out the corporate, licensing and fiduciary responsiblities of the SPL and SFA boards. We can now frame our entire debate in light of this event, well in advance of Rangers.
We will defeat any motion to make a special case for Hearts. I am in no doubt of it. Because to grant that special dispensation means Rangers are CERTAIN to follow suit, and that would make our game a corrupt laughing stock.
We can put on pressure so severe no case in Hearts favour will ever succeed ….
…. and if Hearts aren’t allowed to escape, how they do they justify allowing Rangers to?
This is Celtic’s chance to own these proceedings, to set the agenda and decide this issue well in advance.
