SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Italia Bhoy……..we will need to join some other league…..this one is on the way ‘out’…..due bigotry etc

  2. Well there are two ways to look at it:

    1. Hearts go out of business and there is a fixture issue – their points gained and lost become null and void (so the animals lose 4 of their huge points lead knocking it down to 8 points tee hee) but how can they fulfill the season with an 11 team SPL? So they use Hearts folding as an excuse to let both of them in.

    2. If Hearts can’t get in again, neither can Rangers – the integrity of the competition is gone completely and it opens things up for all team to run up debts and then liquidate and return without a blemish – where is the honesty in that? Then what we get is a disenfranchised championship.

They can use it to let Rangers slime their way back in as well but what is then to stop EVERY TEAM in the SPL in bother from doing this?

Dundee United owe a fair whack, along with the cousins of shame and Kilmarnock cannot be out of the woods.

Celtic, Hibs and St Mirren are not badly run. I’m not sure about the Dons but they are likely to move stadium.

My guess would be that teams like Inverness, St Johnstone and possibly Motherwell are now living within their means.

But even if these other teams are in bother they can write off debts by liquidation and coming back into the SPL under another name if Hearts and Rangers cheat their way into this.

Now I heard Keevins say that Hearts if they are liquidated go into division 3 as Gorgie Hearts or whatever name they choose. Why does he not say the same about Rangers? What is the difference Mr Flanders? Well we all know how this tripe will be spun – for the good of Scottish football but it really is for the benefit of certain teams. Celtic and the rest of the league do not need the bigot twins and the game will be cleaner for their absence.

Hearts going down is either a blessing or a leverage for them to play their slimy games.

Celtic – DO NOT LET THESE TEAMS CHEAT THEIR WAY INTO THE LEAGUE.

They have made their beds now they must lie in them FOR THE GOOD OF SCOTTISH FOOTBALL

  3. If Ian Black or Marius Zaliukas signed for Celtic, they’d get sent off in the tunnel pre-match.

I’d take Templeton and, maybe, Andrew Driver, if he can pass a medical.

That thought must have hit us at exactly the same time!

The guy leading the winding up petition against Hearts is an Advocate General. That’s government, which means HMRC.

If this is related to their investigations into Hearts use of EBT’s then Ogilvie is gone, gone, gone too!

henr1ck…..I like most of your posts……..but coming on promoting anti PL sentiments without evidence doesn’t sit well with me……..most CQNers don’t read my fkn posts, so join the club…..LOL…!!!

  8. Peter Lawell is probably quite right to delay any contract talks given he doesn’t know if there will be a league to play in. Could you not just say Peter Lawell picks the team? Shoorley more believable than some crap about delayed contract talks? If my contract was delayed Id be playing all the better to attract suitors or ensure I was indespensible not examining the flashing of my opponents boots as he went past me or through me yet again.

  9. In the last 15 years, the scottish teams who have been/ will be on the receiving end of administration/ liquidation have all been with the exception of Gretna, up to their knees in bigotry and that sort of thing. I give you

Something similar came up earlier today, something Celtic First said. In my mind this is an occasion where the board can’t work behind closed doors, so we will know for sure where they stand on this when it all comes to a head (although, is it not still a possibility that Vlad could pay this bill?).

On this issue, i’m 100% with you. No more bending over. Time to fight our ground – hopefully that’s been the plan of the Celtic War Room all along.

Part of me does wonder if Vlad has completely different ideas though. Is he about to walk from the illicit shunannigans of the SP Hell and make his reasons known? He has been one of the few to be vocal about the cheating to date.

    Interesting times indeed :)

Snake………like point 1…….if that happens, i’ll have to lie down…….LLLLOOOOLLLL

  12. James Forrest,

My initial reaction when I read of the Hearts winding up order was the same as Italia Bhoy’s i.e. this could make any move by the SFA/SPL to change the rules seem more “acceptable” on the grounds that losing 2 big clubs would be too big a pill for Scottish football to swallow – in effect Hearts would be used as a shield to protect Rangers.

I must admit, though, your arguement that Hearts going first would allow us to set the agenda does seem pretty persuasive. Maybe it’s just the pessimist in me, but I still worry that Whyte might take the opportunity to “piggy back” on to Hearts’ winding up by pushing Rangers into insolvency at the same time, thereby giving the authorities the “meltdown” excuse to bend the rules.

Of course, that pre-supposes that Whyte has any interest in what happens to Rangers once he has picked their bones clean, which may not be the case.

  13. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

The Comfortable Collective…..we rest our case…….bigotry….the root of all evil…!!!!

  14. James Forrest is Lennon on

Celtic should have a statement ready for release tomorrow morning.

It should be framed in terms of sporting integrity, respect for the tax raising authorties and the law of the land. It should be framed to show that clubs which act responsibily should not have to pay the price for those who flaunt the financial rules and bend the law. The focus should be not only on the damage to the national sport but on the damage such practices do to wider society – and if the words “tax payer” are not mentioned 100 times at least it will have been written by someone who’s not grasped the politics.

If we play our cards right, win the debate over the corpse of Hearts, we WILL see Rangers get what they deserve.

I personally look forward to standing in Celtic Park celebrating three-in-a-row on the same day they lose the race for promotion to Division 1 to a “plucky Stenhousemuir.”

LoL, how many people spoke about the board the other day and no one said anything.

All I was doing was posting Rumours that was posted on Celtic underground twitter because quite frankly I have never agreed with our boards spending policy and I feel something is wrong but it’s only my opinion.

  16. If rankers go into admin what happens to existing contracts?

Contracts that where sold off as thier ‘silver’?

Contracts that they gained short term but to long term pain?

    I.e media rights (tv&internet)to ntl for £33m in 2000.

Merchandising to Jjb in 2006 £18m up front plus min £3mper season there after?

That’s £33m or £6.6m per season they have had so far?

What happens to these ‘bad’ deals?

    Everything stinks

You are right that these rumours are on most of the celtic fan sites.

The same question is being asked on them all.

If this is true, whose contract is not being concluded swiftly?

    Scott Brown?? Mark Wilson?? Who???

Most of the sites I mam reading are saying that the players have a cheek to complain about being insufficiently rewarded for failure.

And yes, before you reply, that applies to all others at the club too, not just the playing staff.

  23. The Comfortable Collective @ 22:38

That re-enforces my argument earlier today (that was so pash no one paid it any attention :) )

Let them play in their own league, while the rest of can set up a Fair Play League. So alien to us that it seems like Heaven..

  24. Mountain_Bhoy is Neil Lennon on

if i was peter lawell I wouldnt do any contract talks with these useless weak players we have!

  25. SFTB,

I would take a punt on Andrew driver.

If you could get him fit, he is a decent SPL player.

I wouldn’t touch any of the keepers.

  26. Posted 24 hours ago – them and the minis + one other = chaos!

There is another club out there that will make the jump – worse case scenario = scrapping of league – best case (for the guilty) reconstruction and reinstatement.

  27. Why do I feel we are entering a Kurt Russell movie in a football context just now – the law will no longer have any authority, gangsters will rule and folk will no longer pay taxes…

  28. Dundee United were making similar noises to Hearts. Could be Killie. They would be next donor in line if the huns had some incurable disease.
