SPL dominoes might all fancy ditching HMRC debt

1072

It’s difficult not to associate Hearts’ owner, Vladimir Romanov’s outburst on their club website yesterday with the current issue over Rangers finances, which could soon see the SPL, the SFA and the media take sides between Rangers and their creditors, in particular HM Revenue and Customs.

Romanov’s rant on the demise of the Scottish game was ignorable until he dragged in the “tax authorities” for blame.  As you and I know, the tax authorities don’t play favourites, they collect vat, income, corporation and other taxes in line with the law.

Hearts failed to pay player wages last month and Romanov now says, “there is no point is spending millions to watch someone else’s show”.  Most of Hearts debt is owed to Romanov’s own bank but if player wages are unpaid there is a good chance HMRC will also be outstanding, explaining the “tax authorities” reference.

If a new football club playing at Ibrox is ushered into the SPL with a points tally calculated from the position of a defunct Rangers you can expect a gold-rush of clubs ready to flush their debts to the country, and history, away.

Well done to STV who yesterday revealed the actual decision making process which would be put in place to judge an application to join the league midseason or at any other time.  The SPL board, by simple majority, have the decision, while the SFA need to ratify membership.

If the SPL board vote to reward bad debtors’ shares in their league what incentive would most clubs have to pay their bills?  Fortunately, our history is more valuable than any amount of cash.

The new issue of CQN Magazine will be out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

No matter the make up of the rest of the team tonight, the midfield needs to be as strong as possible.

    Wanyama and Kayal must play.

    Also Matthews at rigt back.

I’d prefer Sammi to Hooper who is going through a cr….poor patch as he offers a degree of defensive quality, which we might need.

Commons and Forrest on from the start with McCourt coming on for the last 10 minutes, to, err, run about for 10 minutes.

I will take 5-4 to us tonight.

  2. English is a supercilious creep.

And his relationship with Whyte is like that of Jabba with Murray.

I suspect however that it will be rather more short lived.

No surprise. It’s not the first time they’ve been in this position.

I think Mad Vlad is in the ‘can pay, won’t pay’ camp, unlike the huns.

  4. ernie,

I read him a few years back (maybe about 5?) and my general impression then was that he was pretty good. As I am usually in agreement with your posts, however, I will assume that he has changed for the worse.

As I have stated on here I do not dignify the press by purchasing their oracles.

    So excuse my naievity.

Is the harrassment experienced by our fans at the hands of Strathclydes finest being mirrored at any other football stadia in Glasgow?

  8. Has anybody ever heard of the EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan) that the EPL have set up and support. Basically it is a youth development scheme. I heard today that Manchester City is going to invest 70 million pounds into their part of the bargain. Scary if that figure is accurate.

Apparently, globally, Manchester City has an active interest in 30 feeder ‘franchises’.

  9. Moring all from a damp muff (its in Donegal, heads out of the gutter please). Wee question. If we cant sing the Irish national anthem at a football ground what will be the stance at international games. Will other nationalities be subject to the same discrimination.

    Good Morning,

Needless to say that it is becoming increasingly difficult to get through all the blog reading on various related matters surrounding football these days. Between checking out Phil, RTC, Twitter, the Scotslawblog, and the occasional tale of leaving the toilet seat up from Blantyre Kev– you get to the end, collect your thoughts and find that it is bed time!

Apparently, all internet dating forums in Scotland at least are recording a downturn in traffic because everyone is on about football instead of chasing the opposite sex!

However, in the course of my morning a scenario has been painted to me which I actually think is worthy of real consideration. It is both realistic and obvious, frightening in a way and potentially inevitable– isn’t that a great contradiction in terms? Potentially inevitable!!

    Moonbeams will like that.

    Anyway I digress.

I can exclusively reveal that the man who is most likely to bring about the final downfall of Rangers PLC is to be found amongst the regular posters of this blog!! You will read this nowhere else on the net, it is exclusive to here.

Think of it. Craig Whyte has sold off the catering, mortgaged the season tickets, pawned the medals etc etc and the bills keep mounting up and the court cases keep on coming.

Yet somehow survival is always ensured, money found from somewhere. A sudden game against Liverpool, a trip to Hamburg for a fee and so on. A scheme is hatched to dig up money from somewhere.

Yet that will become incredibly hard to continue when one of our own posters decides to strike and potentially deliver the devastating final blow– the most unwelcome news that anyone at Rangers would want to hear– the kind of thing that no amount of financial contortion-ism can help you wriggle out of!

“What is this news?” I hear you ask. ” Who is this poster?”

Well, he is to be found on occasion in the very centre of Glasgow. A man with his finger on the pulse. A man who has come to influence the lives of many of the 640,000 individual readers of this blog on a daily basis.

Yes this potential grim reaper is none other than………………………………

    JOBO BALDIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are getting to that stage in the year when your daily blog life starts with Jobo saying:

” Good morning from a snow covered East Kilbride! No chance of moving my car and no chance of football today!”

Last year that type of weather report lasted for weeks if not months. Games unplayed but wages still to be found and paid. No gate income, no catering income, no car parking, no raffle income, nothing.

A football club has to get through weeks like that. Hopefully it has the resources to do so, but if it doesn’t???????

Then it might just be all over when Jobo starts to sing Whyte Christmas!!!

Cheerio for now. A bike ride beckons. Incidentally, how is the weather in Glasgow? I have a ticket for tonight but, and I know this is worthy of criticism, I am not certain about going tonight. I am not at my best driving in the dark and rain exaggerates the difficulty.

The English FA are really getting their act together with youth development. I am currently doing a level 2 coaching course (UEFA B) and the focus is very much on LTDP- Long Term Player Development, for every youth player in England. This then links into the academies, which most league clubs have. The academies are just being re-structured and graded. At present to attend an academy you must not live more than 90 minutes drive away. Clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea run coaching schools around the south of England to keep within this ruling. Chelsea have something like 200 scouts, whilst Arsenal have gone down the franchise coaching route.

However, the top quality kids will need to attend the parent academy at some stage. So to get around the time/mileage distance ruling they are introducing learning facilities so they do not fall behind with their schooling. The level 1 academies such as the one being developed by Man City will have schooling facilities, 4G pitches, indoor pitches etc. Certainly in England, the days of a lower league club finding a Lee Sharpe (Torquay) or Gareth Barry (Brighton) to sell on will diminish as these kids will have been on the radar and pulled into a premier set up denying small local clubs the chance to develop, nurture and sell on to ensure their survival.

EPPP is part of this plan, and the liklihood is that the majority of kids will hail from Africa. A friend of mone has just come back from Zambia and in a smallish town there were two ‘academies’ there. One from Denmark and one from Norway. He said the boys played football every waking moment, and the technique and skill on display was incredible. Hopefully something may come of our presence in India but would suggest Africa is the place to be. Maybe Craig Bellamy could push a few bhoys our way.
