Split Fifa grounds to withdraw 2022 award

661

Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen.  Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.

Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate.  The treatment of migrant workers could change this.  Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions.  If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.

I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.

The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew.  Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi.  His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.

Bring on the Ajax.

I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

    Clashcitybhoy @ 21:10,

“Our youth system IMHO is a drain on resources For as long as I can remember we have won the u18s /19s league, but , we are no nearer having 5/ 6 homegrown players in our starting 11, than we were 10 years ago, or 20 years ago. Remember Eric Black coming up with a strategy for youth development in the late 90s ? Those 13/14 year olds should be 30 year old regulars Same applies to subsequent strategies. Personally I would seriously consider dumping the whole programme , and spend the £2m + running costs on three or four Ryan Gualds , Scott Allan’s , hoping 1 or 2 come good every season

Barca have got the best Academy in Football, it was always their intention to try and get a first eleven out of the Academy, they managed it last year, these things take time.

Of course or problem is we are making no progress, quite the reverse. You talk of Eric Black’s initiative, of Course we have had programmes before and since, now all of them have been more successful and no doubt cheaper than Lennoxtown.

Rarely can we name a period when we had 5/6 homegrown players since the Lisbon Lions and Co.

Yet since then Barrowfield produced many squad players and I’d like to think quality Celts, though revisionist thinking may disagree.

    Danny Mc Grain

    Lou Macari

    Kenny Dalglish

    Davie Hay

    Roy Aitken

    Tommy Burns

    Paul Mc Stay

    Charlie Nicholas

    Tommy Boyd

    Aiden Mc Geady

    Shaun Maloney

    Charlie Mulgrew

Then you have the ones that got away, Shay Given etc.. apologies to the ones I’ve missed but you’ll take the point we have until Lennoxtown we produced a certain amount of quality if not quantity.

Now the Academy is a drain on resources but we need to keep it…

A Football Club has to give something back to it’s community, boys and youth teams do that, those players and Coaches are part of the fabric of the Club.

But how much time and resources do you put into it? well we can see in the last 45 years the players coming through in quality and quantity go from a torrent, through a stream, to a trickle and now it’s a drip.

Here’s the rub, with the Prices English Championship teams and mid-lower Premiership Clubs pay for average Footballers we should never be out of pocket, but Lennoxtown’s Failure to bring players through is manifest – true if you look around the SPL and the lower leagues in England you’ll find a splattering of good players that came through Lennoxtown, but for all intents and purposes we’ve had one player, James Forrest in seven years.

Now you say that we should concentrate on spending a bit more to bring quality youths in, well you have a point, we certainly seem to have been more successful in the past bringing those who joined as youths through to the first team than those who joined as boys.

    Still

    Paul Mc Stay – Boy

    Tommy Burns – Youth

    Both can and should work.

What is clear in my mind is the Lennoxtown Academy is not functioning, yet we need the players so abondoning it is not an option, so getting it to work is a must.

If you look at our 1st it’s full of foreigners
