Split Fifa grounds to withdraw 2022 award

661

Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen.  Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.

Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate.  The treatment of migrant workers could change this.  Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions.  If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.

I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.

The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew.  Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi.  His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.

Bring on the Ajax.

I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

  2. Er when I said top teams, I was thinking more of teams at our level.

Man Utd were always considered to have a decent youth set up. Of their 1st team listed on transfermarkt I think they have 5 or 6 players that came through their youth system but one of those is Giggs.

The point I’m struggling to make is that they average a consistent 1st team player from their academy only every 2/3 seasons, apart from that one tremendous batch. If Man Utd can’t do it more regularly with all their resources why do people think we will?

    Ha,

I was at St J last season and during warm up, a ball came flying at me.

I promptly ducked, and stood up, feeling quite pleased with myself, until said ball came straight off the fence five or six rows behind and got me full on back of my nut !

Well you know some wee-er teams lose their starlets to bigger teams, or sometimes a new manager comes in that doesn’t fancy them and they move on.

Off the top of my head there’s McGeady, Maloney and Marshall all playing at a similar (higher?) level than Celtic. If they hadn’t moved on, added to Forrest and Mulgrew you’d have nearly half a team of home grown product.

I don’t think we do that badly from the youth’s to be honest.

  9. That will be the same Scott Brown who dominated EPL superstars Lampard,Gerrard and Wilshire at Wembley last month?

Shameless repost ,give the guy a break. He made a mistake and he knows it.As Tony Soprano said “you can’t put the shite back in the donkey”.FWIW the ref had a yellow card out and changed to a red after being hounded by the Barca team.It was silly but a booking might have been suffice,he gave the ref an option which he took.

Fabio signed at 17, so he doesn’t count. Although I did include Amos, the GK on the basis that he’s in a specialised position and he’s capped at his age group.

I did the same exercise a couple of seasons back, and it was still about 5 first team squad members and that included Giggs and at that point Scholes.

Essentially they had that one amazing batch and since then as I say it’s been a player promoted every 2-3 seasons.

Re lennoxtown maybe someone should a cost v benefit analysis- over the last 5 years..as against ” jam tomoorow” ..does one sale justify the effort of many years of could that talent have been scouted from

Another club- I have for many years been told of the cup and league success of youth teams but failed to see the same progression of said youths to first team football. Maybe a time to reflect and ask difficult questions about the youth system. However I sincerely hope that the st ninians project will produce the talent that can make the step up to regular first team football .

Ask the young stars to attend Celtic supporters club events ( subject of course to age ) see how they react to that..hh

Ross County and St. Mirren have built teams with a good few of our ex youth players in recent years. I think we do quite well in producing pro footballers too.

Watched Swansea earlier, no a bad wee unit they have there.

St Gallen impressed me even more, mid to top table Swiss side, very little cash to speak of, yet have some very decent players.

Basel tore Chelsea a new one the other week in the CL, as Sion did to us, they must be getting something right.

Maybe it’s down to the coaches, who knows, we need to radicly change the face of the game in scotland if we have any ambitions of future progression at club level, and on the international stage.

it surprises me that the sfa are not interested in the future of the game, I fully understand they are in the job of protecting one team, but ffs, if they can influence the game that much, can they no influence them to appoint a decent manager who has the good of the game at heart, and let the footballers play football.

No advocating them to be winning cos they never will with a level playing field, just pondering why the suits don’t want a bit of glory seeing their country doing good, bizarre so it is.

Bet beckham an rooney glad only playing for England an not Celtic when they had their petulant kicks out. Yeah he made a mistake but god the sanctimonious opinion of some people wanting harsh punishment handed out to him lacks perspective. What has made our support so reactionary an quick to grasp onto a scapegoat an be so scathing of one of our own. Willing to take plaudits for clapping opposition players but backing one of our own, even after a misdemeanor? Too much for many
