Split Fifa grounds to withdraw 2022 award

661

Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen.  Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.

Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate.  The treatment of migrant workers could change this.  Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions.  If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.

I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.

The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew.  Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi.  His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.

Bring on the Ajax.

I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

  5. Googybhoy, had a look at that FB site as usual it is a disgrace. I’m not sure how you report an FB page for being unsuitable but I think that the Club should be made aware of the existence of this garbage and take the necessary legal action.

He was on at the weekend. It’s worth remembering that he does have a pretty important main job as a Director at Channel 4, so maybe he’s just been a bit busier than usual with that, or maybe he’s on holiday.

I think Hodgson is right in keeping Hart as his number 1 for their last 2 games. We Celtic supporters are too used to our players being passed over by the SFA to accommodate the hordes from Govan. Don’t think that affects FA. Purely football reasons. FF’s time will surely come.

I think the time has come too when we can maturely discuss where we really stand as a FOOTBALL teams in European terms. We seem to have moved beyond, on CQN at least, in simply batting back and forth the nostrums that we need to sign this or that one; it’s all the fault of the manager and the coaches; it’s all the fault of the Board for not spending all that money they give to themselves in bonuses.

There are deeper and more fundamental reasons that we need to address, if we are to progress. I would say it’s to do with the culture (and I don’t mean the rights and wrongs of singing Republican songs old and new), that players in this part of the world inhabit. We need to send people to learn from the best on the Continent and, for me, that has to be Barcelona.

In a bit of a quandary here. They are highlighting a Celtic supporter on this low-life FB page and have linked his FB page to their site. I am not ‘friends’ with him but think he should be made aware of this. Any thoughts guys?

    ……………………………..

    Tell the person being highlighted.

  12. The demonising of Neil Lennon is yet again enforced by an excuse to publish another sick internet photo of a deranged individual in a story that ends in trying to get a Celtic internet site banned for showing/highlighting it (shooting the messenger) very strange and disturbing. No decent journalist or paper would give publicity to such a sick individual and then contort the story into banning a Celtic website. You dont encourage these sicko’s by publishing their fantasies in a national newspaper for other idiots to follow you starve them of the attention they crave. There are enough stories in football at the moment that are not getting the attention they deserve. This information should be handed to the police not given a platform. Pretty sick and irresponsible DR.

    Toothbrushes….

The kids filed into class Monday morning.

    They were all very excited.

Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on salesmanship.

Little Sally led off. “I sold Girl Scout cookies and I made $30” she said proudly, “My sales approach was to appeal to the customer’s civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success.”

    “Very good”, said the teacher.

Little Debbie was next.. “I sold magazines” she said, ” I explained to everyone that the magazines would keep them up to date on current affairs, I sold heaps and I made $45.”

“Very good, Debbie”, said the teacher.

Eventually, it was Little Johnny’s turn.

    The teacher held her breath.

Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher’s desk. “$2,467”, he said.

“$2,467!” cried the teacher, “What in the world were you selling?”

    “Toothbrushes”, said Little Johnny.

“Toothbrushes”, echoed the teacher, “How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?”

“I found the busiest corner in town”, said Little Johnny, “I set up a Dip & Chip stand and I gave everybody who walked by a free sample.”

They all said the same thing, “Hey, this tastes like dog poop!”

Then I would say, “It is dog poop, you wanna buy a toothbrush?”

I used the POLITICIANS method of giving you some crap, dressing it up so it looks good, telling you it’s free, and then making you pay to get the bad taste out of your mouth.”

Little Johnny got five stars for his assignment.

    Bless his heart.

    Hi All,

Long time lurker who occasionally posts. There were two things in the paper that made me proud to be a Celtic fan today.

In terms of the world cup in Qatar, speaking as someone who’s lived in 7 Middle Eastern countries, I find the whole debate depressing. It’s patently obvious that it’s too hot in summer and that a world cup in Qatar totally unviable. If you look at the press coverage, what is really interesting is that the debate seems to be led not by Fifa or football clubs, but by ESPN and other sponsors who don’t want a winter WC to clash with the superbowl or the winter Olympics. I see it as a sign of sport that should be driven by fans, being driven by corporate forces who have little interest in the real fans.

The second thing was hearing that Jermain Defoe could be dropped by Spurs despite scoring 7 goals this season. So many top players these days just end up sitting on the bench. Why do top clubs need so many players? Where have the teams gone? By team I mean a group of 11 players who generally play together week in, week out. In my opinion, the needless expense of borrowing money to buy too many players, is strangling the game and is the main reason for the dwindling quality we see in international football.

Celtic on the other hand, generally spend within their means. We have schemes to help the genuine fan who can’t afford a match day ticket. Our club gathers around to help those in need. The club means more than just money. We have a manager who genuinely has roots in the club, who literally has put his life on the line for Celtic. The core of our team are players who’ve grown up knowing what Celtic means. The question is, are we the last genuine football team around? I’m happy to be a Celtic fan, but am gradually getting more and more fed up with being a football fan.

    aye!

  21. Scott Brown was excellent prior to his sending off, I was not fortunate enough to see the lead up to the incident as I was getting the wee bhoy from his fitba training.

I thought Celtic were magnificent as a defensive unit against Barca but were very poor (first half) when it came to distributing the ball. The Barca players obviously drained the team that is used to having the ball, domestically. When Broonie, I know he will learn from this, went off, Celtic fought tooth and nail against a Tiger.

Ajax – I like their strip, I like the way they play, most of all, I like beating them in Amsterdam.

If Milan get 4 points frae Barca, Top spot is up for grabs.

If Celtic need a Win to top the last group, away to Barca, I’ll have my Money on Celtic.
