Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen. Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.
Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate. The treatment of migrant workers could change this. Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions. If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.
I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.
The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew. Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi. His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.
Bring on the Ajax.
I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

Ah well that’s the power of belief for you. Those people believe they are the same club. It doesn’t actually make it true.
Good game of CQN 5s tonight, with Paddybhoy1888 coming through injury (and goal) free, so that he can run the 10k at the weekend. I think I jinxed him by agreeing to sponsor him £5 a goal and he was on my side :-)

We’ve now qualified for the last 16 of the CL 3 times. I’d say that’s progress from where we were in 2003 mate.

There are 101 reasons why Celtic arent producing enough good young players, but having good facilities isnt one of them. If it was, then we would have produced a ton of them before Lennoxtown was built which, with the exception of the Jock Stein days and Quality Street Gang, we havent
For me, one of the main reasons is that there is now no reserve league (something else to blame the deid club for as it was them who wanted it scrubbed as they didnt have the money to run a reserve team) – promising boys now only play against other promising boys of the same age, and the gap between that and the first team is enormous
Another reason is that need for ‘jam today’ from too many supporters (probably why Sevco spent millions on players they dont need when they have enough young players to try out). How many Celtic supporters would tolerate young players playing but making mistakes? I suspect the abuse these boys would get (we’ve already seen plenty of examples) would discourage them from playing again and certainly discourage the manager from giving them another run

Scott Brown still learning. For God’s sake he is twenty eight not some wee loddie.
CCB & Pfayr
He must have something when you look at the list of Scotland & Celtic managers that have made him a 1st pick & always spoke highly of him.

Quick survey – which top level teams do we think have an effective youth academy?

Reluctantly I think you are probably right and that the whole youth academy system shut down .
I have absolutely no doubt that there are good young players on our books and that some should be good enough to make it. But I doubt they will be given many chances to make it- sure some’ll get the odd game but the first time they play badly they’ll be dropped and forgotten about. Even when they get a run the supporters rarely take to them- aside from Bangura probably the least popular amongst our support is James Forrest and that’s typical of what has happened over the last 25 years.
And of course there is also the possibility that if we do find a really extra special prospect he’ll just get whipped away by an EPL club a la Feruz.
I think that one of the club’s greatest traditions is that of rearing it’s own players but whilst I am sure that Neil Lennon for one would love to be able to field a largely home grown team he never will – in the same way that every Celtic manager/coach since the arrival of Wim Jansen hasnt.
I would love to be proved wrong but even if we have in our various youth teams players who could be as good as Jinky, Kenny, the Maestro were we and they will never be given the chance to find out.

In Scotland IMO hibs Dundee utd and Aberdeen.
Look at money accies made from the two MC’s.
Somebody mentioned Barrowfield Training Ground.has it been up graded, the football pitches are great, but other areas need a good bit done to it, I noticed when the accounts were released Ian Bankier said there was money spent on the training ground at Barrowfield,
Weeminger, Barca and ehmmm, ehmmm……
That’s it.

IMO it is bloody scandalous that we don’t have our own 19’s GK. instead we have a German GK on loan from Fulham. So in the whole of Scotland there is not a decent GK…. That’s definitely not the case as over the past few years I have seen a lot of under age games and some really good prospects but Celtic don’t do trials for Scottish GK’s. however they do for foreign GKs. It is a disgrace.

HT ,
I take your point.
Personally I equate a Europa / UEFA Cup Final with a last 16 in Europe – you are entitled to disagree. On that basis, I don’t think we have progressed, certainly not as much as Swansea.
They have achieved an enormous turnaround, and I believe that if we want to get into a better league, we need to work at it over 6/7 years, rather than our current strategy of hoping for a lift over the turnstile.
Persistent trailists ……a bigger waste of money than the youth set up

Hibs, Dundee Utd and Hamilton have had a good rate of academy graduates in recent years.

Well that is a very good point, and no matter what you think of those guys they Will be hugely passionate about that.
Barca at CP while they are “entertaining” Stenhousmuir Will be sickening them to the pit of their stomach.
However why demand the huge payouts, Ally is taking 20% of the SB money, do they seriously think they Will build a competitive team with the loyal as well as the spivs with their snouts in the trough?
If you are correct and let’s face it you have a great point, they Will be reinvesting the money back in the team when the real Rangers men take over the Club.
I won’t hold my breath.

We won’t agree on the last 16 v Europa Cup Final point because I believe to qualify from the groups that we have done, especially when taking into account the calibre of player nowadays in comparison to ’03, is far superior.
I would however agree that the progress that Swansea have made is truly staggering.
Hope yer keeping well ;-)

I saw you out the corner of my eye at Tynecastle and previously at Pitoddrie.

Anyway, I got tickets through yesterday for Easter Rd, and I am going to Ajax, maybe see you at one or other.
