Celtic were always in control against St Johnstone in Perth this afternoon and deservedly picked up the three points although it took them almost an hour to open the scoring. Gary Hooper knocked in a loose ball on 59 minutes before Ki Sung-Yeung finished off a sweeping Celtic brea five minutes later.
St Johnstone kept things tight early on and kept Celtic from creating a chance before Georgios Samaras created space for a shot which was saved well by Enckelman. Celtic’s best move of the first half came after 31 minutes when Ki, Forrest and Brown combined to release Hooper. The striker shot low and on target but Enckelman pulled off a remarkable save.
Both teams picked up the pace after half time but it was Mackay who created the first chance of the second period, forcing a save from Fraser Forster. Cha DuRi twice crossed dangerously. Firstly for Hooper, whose hooked effort from 4 yards was turned over by the impressive Enckelman. James Forrest then turned a snatched chance over from Cha’s next effort.
Just before the hour Charlie Mulgrew dropped a corner into the six yard box which Victor Wanyama contested. The ball dropped between a sea of St Johnstone legs but Hooper was onto it in a flash and prodded over.
The game was put beyond the home team five minutes later. St Johnstone were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Celtic penalty area after Mulgrew was penalised for climbing. The Celtic was stood strong and from the subsequence block James Forrest drove forward at pace. Samaras returned a 1-2 to Forrest to drew Enckelman before squaring for the unmarked Ki. The Saints’ keeper did well but could not prevent Ki’s shot from crossing the line.
Samaras mishit a shot after the impressive Cha again crossed to effect before the Greek striker ran 40 yards and had his shot blocked.
St Johnstone’s only real chance fo the game came when Wanyama slipped to let Haber close in on Forster but the keeper was equal to the shot.

Where did you end up if you went to the M&S in Helensburgh…there isnae one!
Must have been Dumbarton.
Wasn’t too far from there myself on the roads of G83 when Hooper and Ki scored today.
Another great victory for Celtic, 8 in a row against Kilmarnock next in line.

Thank God levien overlooks Mulgrew!!
Surely this has to be looked at by the SPL:
`However, Lennon’s former Northern Ireland team-mate, Lomas, questioned the defender’s challenge on the half-hour mark.
“I haven’t seen it again, but I thought the big centre-half knew he was 70-30 in favour,” said the St Johnstone manager.
“It might have just been an honest collision, but I wouldn’t bet my house on it.
“Maybe you don’t get those decisions against Celtic.” `

off for the night.
TopCorner,
that radio broadcast is very very good, enjoyed that link,
cheers.
To be perfectly honest guys I can’t stand Bratislava. It simply isn’t my kind of town and as we say Bratislava is not Slovakia, it is Western Europe.
If you were of a mind you’d be better heading up the road to Trnava or better still Nitra where there are sports bars and Irish pubs which will show Celtic.
The Dubliner is obvious but I have to say I’ve never met any of the manky mob in Slovakia – must be a Bratislava thing.
Enjoyed the luxury of watching the game again, with the pressure off and knowing the result. Generally I find watching the games with non-Scottish commentators far less irritating (used to enjoy Ian Crocker when Sky started showing Scottish games; RTE coverage of Celtic games in CL), and commentary in a non-English language, whether I understand it or not, is usually still an improvement (eg, online Arabic, Jazeera, Mexican, or Polish coverage). Some of our Spain-based posters on here have said that Spanish commentary of our games against Spanish teams is far more objective (and in our favour) than Scottish coverage.
As an Irish speaker, I also enjoyed able to recognise some of the words in the commentary, although I find it easier to read Scots Gaelic than listen to it because of the differences in pronunciation – at school we learned Connemara Irish, whereas Donegal Irish is more more similar to Scottish Gaelic.
Anyway, good game and nice to watch it twice! Can’t expect BBC Alba will show many more of our matches.

Just back from the Perth via a celebratory meal in Shawlands. First half was exasperating – wrong formation! Second half much better with Sammy up front partnering Hooper.
You just reminded me of that evening in Liverpool when big John scored that magnificent goal and I turned to Mrs Huck and said “it just doesn’t get any better than this!”. One of the highlights of my 50+ year journey with Celtic.
Thanks for the memories!

Fantastic 3 points away from home again. Gained through our own efforts and without the help of the orc mibs. Well done lenny and the bhoys, the run continues. Roll on the 28th and the visit of the detestables.
Can we ever get through one game without incurring injuries? Comfortable win in the end, which could have been a potential banana skin. Mon ye celts and a happy hoopt tonight.

I’m not a fan of Samaras. I acknowledge that he has played well in the last 5 or so games however he has almost 4 years of underachievement to make up for so, with respect, come back and ask again after he has done the business for a lengthy spell like a whole season (a few goals would come in handy too if that’s not too much too ask.
Today was a great result but it demonstrated that we really need to sign another goal scoring striker in January. I dread the prospect of Hooper or Stokes getting injured and having to rely on Mo Bangura.
Today’s 10 minute cameo was another watch through your fingers performance.
I really fear that the excellent work in finding Vic, Beram and Izzy is being balanced out by poor Mo who looks as though he has just been introduced to the game.
