St Mirren 0-2 Celtic

1198

Celtic collected all three points from St Mirren Park at lunchtime today but were under the cosh for most of the game.  James Forrest opened the scoring in the 71st minute before Scott Brown secured the points two minutes from time to secure Celtic’s 11th consecutive SPL win.

Marc McAusland forced an early save from Fraser Forster on the goal line as a notice of intent on how the first half traffic was going to flow before Gary Hooper made Celtic’s only attempt on goal in the first half, a hooked shot from 35 yards.  After 15 minutes a Mulgrew corner was headed towards his own goal by Steven Thompson, who was fortunate the ball struck his own player on the line.  Five minutes alter Thompson tested Forster with a header at the other end which was saved well.  Graham Carey had a good chance late in the first half but shot wide from a tight angle.

The second half started in much the same patter with St Mirren flowing forward at every opportunity and Celtic looking out of sorts.  Paul McGowan setup Dougie Imrie on his St Mirren debut but Forster saved well again.  The home team’s best chance of the game came when a Van Zanten shot from just outside the box was flicked towards the opposite post by McGowan but Forster somehow managed to twist his body and flick the ball safe.

Neil Lennon realised his formation wasn’t working and withdrew Samaras and Ki for Stokes and Commons, the addition of the latter proving crucial.  Commons set pieces, intelligent use of his body and possession troubled St Mirren.  On 59 minutes his corner was met by Rogne, whose goal-bound header struck McAusland on the raised arm, although the defender knew little about it.

On 71 minutes a Commons free kick was punched clear by Samson by Scott Brown met it at the edge of the area before rolling the ball in front of James Forrest.  The Celtic wide player shot first-time from 19 yards and found the inside of the post to open the scoring.

St Mirren continued to push forward and McAusland forced yet another save by Forster.  Hooper played a one-two with Stokes before shooting narrowly wide but a minute later Imrie came just as close to drawing St Mirren level.

An 88th minute short corner by Commons to Scott Brown caught St Mirren sleeping.  The Celtic captain slipped a left foot shot inside the far post, a carbon copy of his Scottish Cup goal against Rangers last season.

A minute from time a Commons free kick was headed in off the post by Thomas Rogne but the assistant referee incorrectly flagged for offside despite the Celtic defender being four yards onside.  The game poor advert for the SFA officials with a bizarre collection of mistakes made over which team knocked the ball out of play at corners and throw–ins.

Spam in blogs (also called simply blog spam or comment spam) is a form of spamdexing. (Note that blogspam has another, more common meaning, namely the post of a blogger who creates no-value-added posts to submit them to other sites.) It is done by automatically posting random comments or promoting commercial services to blogs, wikis, guestbooks, or other publicly accessible online discussion boards. Any web application that accepts and displays hyperlinks submitted by visitors may be a target.

Adding links that point to the spammer’s web site artificially increases the site’s search engine ranking. An increased ranking often results in the spammer’s commercial site being listed ahead of other sites for certain searches, increasing the number of potential visitors and paying customers

I’ve been trying to follow all this oldco newco stuff here and on the RTC site.

Still not sure how any newco would have the status of successor to the oldco. Do they have to get hold of the players, Ibrox, the management team? They would have to prove to the SPL that they were Rangers and to HMRC that they weren’t.

  4. If Chick Young of the BBC is agin the Team GB………..

    it makes you think, eh?

  5. Bhoys what a great result yesterday, heart was in my mouth at times but i guess quality always shines through.

I wouldn’t worry to much about the huns, if the authorities turn a blind eye then they will have the Celtic support to deal with.

We as a support can change Scottish Football for good if we make the correct decision on this, in years to come we can look back and we can honestly say we changed it for good or we can make the wrong decision and regret it for the rest of our lives.

Never give your enemy breathing space, hurt them when they’re down and never let them back up.

I just can’t see the Celtic board saying nothing on this matter, our board have been running a tight ship for years and do you honestly believe they will let the SFA bend the rules on this, no chance.

The real Scotlands shame are doomed and they deserve everything that’s coming to them.

I couldn’t believe the media yesterday on the huns new signing, they change the guys name but i guess that tells you everything that’s wrong with that club, scum to the core and i will be one happy chappy when admin looms.

I hope Jelavic doesn’t go cos i have never seen a club so desperate to sell their top scorer, wee dawyyl said yesterday live on air they need this sale to get them to Easter.

Let the games begin bhoys, they are cheats and they have cheated teams out of revenue for years and the media want us to turn a blind.

This is the biggest story to hit Scottish Football for years and it took a guy from Glasgow who now lives in Donegal to push this story out there.

  6. I think it will be phased re-birth.

They will first get through the tax bill. Then Eventually it

will be back to business as usual x number of titles, their 5 wee stars

    yadda yadda.

  7. nothing without fans,

“They would have to prove to the SPL that they were Rangers and to HMRC that they weren’t.”

That’s pretty much the crux of it. The argument that the SPL needs the huns is made on the basis of the level of support and tv income that they bring. A totally new club could argue it is likely to attract that, but to do so it basically has to say that it is the oldco in new clothes. And HMRC could then argue that the whole thing is just a scam to avoid the debts – perish the thought!

A Newco must be made to apply to the league to enter at the bottom – in competition with any other clubs that want to apply for the vacancy.

Hope the wee man is fine matey, 2 kids myself i know how you feel.

  10. With Jelavic apparently ready to dig in and not be sold to a team he doesn’t want to go to, and their apparent desparation to sell him in this window to keep the cashflow, well flowing, until the taxman cometh, his price tag will plummet as we get closer to 31st January. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go for as little as £4-5m (obviously reported as £10m deal by laptop loyal). I think I would now prefer him to stay, and enjoy the carnage that follows!

  11. nothing without fans – Does newco = oldco

HMRC and the SPL have totally different measures in answeriing this queston, which is why both may come up with a different answer. And each, in their own view, would be correct.

HMRC deal in company numbers, registered offices etc. If the old company no linger exists then that is that. It doesn’t matter where their assets have gone as they’ll have been sold off to pay creditors.

I can’t see how the SPL could ‘officially’ confirm that newco = oldco, but you know in the hearts and minds of the SPL and other rangers fans they would hold this belief dear. And this fact wouldn’t necessarily be a factor in deciding direct (re)entry to the SPL.

If, like Fiorentina, the SPL have the option to sell the old rangers name and history to the new club, then they’d be faced with a moral and ethical decision. Obviously it is in the interests of any FA to preserve its history and those of its member clubs. However in Fiorentina’s case we weren’t talking about a club with a 100 year sectarian signing policy; or a racist, bigoted ethos which permeates its very identity.

This would be an epoch changing opportunity, and when faced with such a decision the governing body would have to consider exactly what it was saying godbye to, and what it could be ushering in. I for one won’t be holding my breath.

  12. Right lads the sun has just appeared so it’s up the golfie for me and then back to watch the premiership games.

I have heard there are a few names of interest. However, I hear Michael Owen has been linked as has Roman Pavlyuchenko. However, there are a number of players being considered.

I am hearing there is an experienced Italian striker being considered, currently plying his trade in Italy. At this time I do not have a name.

  16. OldCo/Newco debate…..

    Are you Rangers?

Yes? Lovely, here’s your tax bill.

No? No problem. Queue to apply for the Third Division is over there.

    SwanseaBhoy

  17. Gordon J – agree that newco should have to apply to start at the bottom of the league structure, but am not convinced they will.

SonsOfErin – mention of the TV deal raises the third body that has to judge the newco’s status. I wonder just how the TV contract has been worded so that the 4 Celtic v Rangers games could be considered to be fulfilled by Celtic v newco. And the need for 4 games prevents any points deduction from newco which could threaten them being in the top 6 of the league.

  18. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

I don’t agree with this newco division 3 stuff, they should be made to play in the amateur leagues first.

  19. Rieperman,

When Roman arrived at spurs he complained about London being full of mingers. Canny see him hanging out at Clatty Pats somehow.

Hope you’re well and you & family are settling in.

That is exactly how it SHOULD work, but we all know there will be much more to it than that.

One thing that came up in the car on the way back from Paisley, was their badge, a stupid wee thing – but could be very important in terms of HMRC and phoenix co’s.

There is a possibility HMRC could still go after the phoenix co if they seem to be the same co operating in the same way in the same market from the same premises. This could mean to ensure there was a difference with the newco they would need to change as much as possible. They can’t change premises, don’t want to change market, therefore need to change other things. We were discussing them changing their badge and the colours they play in – what fun we had ;-)

Good Afternoon to the Celtic Family from a sunny Central Scotland. The rumour on Spurs is that they are prepared to offer 7 Million for James Forrest Celtic have said they want 10 Million for the payer and Spurs to make the deal sweeter to Celtic have offered Paulochenko.I have no idea if this is accurate but it came from a good source who said Celtic are considering the offer. H.H.

I can give my right hand. There is ZERO chance Pavlyuchenko will sign for Celtic.

Not long time ago his agent tald that they were considering transfer to Anzhi Makhachkala – most hatred by Russians club in a whole world. Transfer for money reasons.

Sky are only really interested in the Glasgow derbies, whether it’s Celtic v Oldco or Newco Rankers, but I wonder what would happen to the precious TV contract if we refused to play any Newco immediately installed into the SPL?

Refuse to recognise them, don’t play them and give them a 12 point start in the crooked SPL….well we gave them a 15 pont start this season, didn’t we?!!

Also, imagine the reaction of the sporting press around the world as we highlight the level of corruption inherent in Scottish football.

Vmhan – hope your bhoy is ok.

  30. re a Phoenix.

The HMRC will pursue the NewCo for, at the very least, a security deposit for future VAT payments and, from 6th April this year, be able to do the same for PAYE and NIC contributions (where there is a likelihood of defaulting – and I think we can assume that such a likelihood is quite high).

Existing rules re VAT security is that a deposit of approx. 6 months worth of returns be placed with HMRC, based on the OldCo’s VATable income. A similar calculation process for PAYE and NIC would require the NewCo to deposit around £10m with HMRC before they start to trade.
