St Mirren benefit from recency bias

370

Celtic comprehensively destroyed St Mirren on 2 January, our last impressive performance against an SPFL club.  Since then, St Mirren have won three of their four games, conceding only once (to Newco).  Their last two wins, 0-3 at Easter Road and 2-0 home to Dundee, put them nine points ahead of their two city rivals and comfortably in fifth place in the table.

We should be aware of recency bias, though.  Before the winter break, St Mirren lost seven in nine games.  One of their wins since then was 1-0 at home to third tier Queen of the South in the last round of the Scottish Cup.  While Hibs were a close match for Celtic on Wednesday, their capitulation to St Mirren told more about their fragility than the victors.

Celtic’s loanee Kwon Hyeok-kyu has picked up a lot of the credit for St Mirren’s current form.  I am split between wanting to see how he performs against a top side and hoping his deal means he will be sitting in the stand tomorrow.

A few eyebrows were raised (including by me) when we signed the midfielder from the Korean second tier.  Although Brendan has yet to offer Kwon any gametime, I hear he thinks the player is a prospect.

Stephen Robinson had Saints press at Celtic Park earlier in the season.  After two wins, I expect nothing less on Sunday.  It should be an entertaining cup tie.

and whose fault was it all ?

  4. Celtics is our priority…

    Ignore the Hun noise …

    Ignore the Hunterloopers

    Concentrate on Celtic

Av never been a fan of Tony Ralston but love the bhoys attitude and he has my 100% backing, still smile when Tony made that tackle to get us 3pts the other night, just like his last minute goal at Ross County before

The Huns aren’t as as good as their media would have you believe …but they are United and a definite challenge that’s not a bad thing …

I enjoy the fact that fellow Celtic fans question everything but one thing for sure is, no board wins you fitba games …

100% behind Brendan … and “if” we do win this league I will enjoy as much as all the rest I have lucky enough to witness

As a wee side note .. tomorrow is massive, I don’t expect Celtic to win every competition but have read posters saying the cups don’t matter, play the kids and all that shoite… as far as I am concerned that’s … pish

    Winning is a habit ….

So hopefully we are in the draw after our match in Paisley tomorrow 🍀

  5. Bada, the sycophantic mob on here are hilarious.

But wait a minute I might be a hunterloper.

    Fekn embarrassment,every one of them

  6. Will some big brave person tell me who the hunterlopers are. Just for reference 🤷🏻‍♂️

  7. Hunterlopers are Celtic fans who give there honest opinions,I agree every competitions our team is involved in is a must win ,

  8. FAIRHILL BHOY- we are back to minimizing the millions from the Champions League, to blaming the fans,to blaming the manager, for absolutely abysmal recruitment…..but don’t blame the ‘ Chairman’ who is doing us a favour on ‘paltry’ money (after taking £17 million out of a Club our size), but is negotiating contracts, and his son,who has been promoted well beyond his capabilities, he was an Administrator at Man City Academy, strange I never seen any interview process for one of the most important roles at any football club.

  9. Great opportunistic goal from Jerry Frimpers. Still remember his battle with Jota at Celtic Park, brilliant.

Van Gael, I think it was, failed to use him, or rarely, in the Winter World Cup, in 1922, and the Dutch went out earlier than they should have. Funny thing is we played some terrific football against Leverkusen under Ange but lost possession way up the park and paid the price, and am not talking tickets here.

Of course Dortmund should have pipped Bayern last season, but the much lauded Bellingham sold them out in the last match of the season. I have no time for him, lotta time for Frimpong though.

*absolutely but its difficult when good supporters start tae engage in conversation with them such as buffalo billy.

*all successful teams need journey men or water carries as that manure nutter called them and that’s what Tony is, he has zero ego and wont let us down

The Huns aren’t as good as their media would have you believe …but they are United and a definite challenge that’s not a bad thing …

*we still have more class than them but it’s the desire that seems tae be lacking right now, SMSM will be looking for a Renfrewshire double the morra so we have tae get stuck in or as Ange would say Never Stop which was what got us the 3 points on Wednesday night late on.

Totally agree .. I have a troll or two on here

But as people say … don’t give them any oxygen

Like you I was gutted when Brendan bolted, took me a good few months to stop wanting Leicester to even score a goal … my wee yin is now 15 and Celtic daft (which was a no bad as her mum, 2 big sisters and wee neice are all Huns :-) it’s me & her against the lot of them … but she was raging when Brendan was returning and she said “dad you hated him for leaving” I tried to kid her on I didn’t say that .. obviously I did .. but the fact Brendan came back actually makes me like him even more … when big Idah scored that penalty the other night me & her jumping about the living room is my … Celtic … I think we will win this league .. but if we don’t … we go again next season 🍀
