  1. Just back in from game how many times will we fail to show up at Hampden we lacked desire all over the park.

We did a creative midfield player I would like Paddy to be that player but his chance seems to have gone so Dylan for me should be our midfield creative spark that can open up a defence with a pass. That was sadly missing today no passing from midfield often left defenders with long punts up park and gave possession to Saints.

It was clear it was not working early on and we never changed it tactically.

Just as I was convincing myself Juve could be beaten by us, bump back to reality.

  2. Evening bhoys from a hun free mountain valley.

    What to say.

    One of those days…..

    Bad day at the office……

    Lack of desire……

For once I am not going to critisize the ref, he was as good as I have ever seen him reffing a game with us.

Still, happy that I am a Tim.

Well done Danny Lennon, you outsmarted your younger namesake today.

Just go and beat that mob in the final.

Some amount of glory hunters on just now, to be expected, as Paul says, the blog goes into meltdown when we lose.

St Mirren had they’re Barca moment today.

  3. Neil tried to win it with forwards and goals today.

That was as good as a derby today – win the midfield and you’ll win the day.

Neil Lennon changed his set-up after 15mins – it was not necessarily his set up but the players within it which caused the issue.

Lassad. Was so anonymous as to not register as good nor bad.

Samaras – marginalised – which teams can do with him – they managed to have 4 (4!!!!!!) players around him at points.

No movement and no space – and one their goals went in there was less movement and less space – BUT PROPORTIONALLY – we tried to inflict killer passes and back heels whilst 2 goals down.

    Poor.

Leftclicktic, lurking on here many moons ago you mentioned someone called nid. I know him very well and told him that he had been mentioned on the famous CQN. He was chuffed!!

  5. I don’t mind anyone being critical of the team’s performance today, all I would ask for is a bit of balance. Our penalty was the turning point, we had started the 2nd half well and it looked a matter of time before we would go ahead. To me it was a terrible penalty, the keeper was running up and down his line, to hit it at that pace and height made the keeper the favourite all day long. I’m a firm believer in blasting penalties as hard as you can. After that miss St. Mirren sensed it was their day and went on to make it happen. We were poor from Zaluska out and got what we deserved. If we rejoice in victory we need to be men enough to take defeat. Well done St. Mirren, its a good day for Scottish Football, no Armageddon here, as for Celtic, there is plenty to play for. Roll on the next game.

  6. The Resident \m/O\m/ on

In the pub after being at the game so short, & sweet…

We played poorly, couldnt take our chances, but for the matter of a couple of inches it could have been a different game. Bad day all round with the majority of the team under par. Not going to crucify individuals as we know they are capable.

    Lets move on

  7. Paul67 et al

So, for some on here, we get defeated and the League Cup is not worth winning. That attitude should never be within a million light years of Celtic Park. It is an insult to our club and to our players. We have been in twenty nine finals, won half of them, and could have and should have won more. Was it important in 1957? Was it important in 1965? Was it important in April 1969? Was it important to Tommy Burns? Was it important to Wim Jansen, to Martin O’Neill, to Gordon Strachan? You better believe it! Is it important to Neil Lennon, absolutely. It is a big big part of our history, and as such it is disappointing that we did not have the wherewithal to make it into the final, as in disappointing for all of us.

  8. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Is there no room in that team for Tony Watt and Dylan McGeough?

I posted at the beginning of the season and since that I feared for these young guys futures at Celtic. Nothings changed.

Academy? It’s a total and expensive joke.

Lennon, yes Lennon needs to play McGough or sign a creative midfielder in this window.

    Unless he’s gonny play Paddy.

All this “well done St Mirren” is losers talk.

Think like winners, act like winners and we will be winners.

I also posted earlier in the season that maybe we are not as good as we think we are.

    Well, are we?

The manager is still playing his favourites.

He aint learning because I believe he thought the treble was in the bag.

    In my opinion of course.

  9. I slept in after staying up late for Murray’s game.

I think some of our team overslept along with me.

VW knocked a few million off his transfer fee today. He seemed lost in midfield.

Sir Awex will be thinking twice about bidding over 20 million.

From the 75 minutes I did see, we were a pale shadow of the fluid, fast moving team we have seen in the last two games against Hearts and Dundee United.

I would put that down to the enthusiasm and robustness of St Mirren who worked hard all over the pitch, closed us down quickly and defended and attacked in numbers when needed.

We had a couple of defensive lapses and the game then turned on the penalty save.

We need to be gracious in victory and defeat and not disregard our form and promise shown before today.

The players have not suddenly lost their ability.

Neither has our manager lost his tactical nous.

Only if our next two games show the same result can we start worrying.

    Liverpool down 3-1 to Oldham.

Chelsea held to a draw at Brentford.

    Spurs lose to Leeds.

    It’s a day for upsets.

  10. I am f***ing raging!

Not scored in 9 games and they take 3 off us.

When an entire team walk away from a penalty and leave a centre half to step up, you know you might as well chuck it!

oh! 3 attempts at this as F’ing numb as well.

  11. We do know they’re capable. That’s the problem ! Lack of application and determination. The defending today was like a preseason friendly.

  12. Big Cup.

I didn’t say I was happy about it. Some of the reaction is a bit OTT, that’s all.

I’m not for one minute suggesting NL and the team should be one bit happy about what happened out there today. I sincerely hope they are not. The reaction of grown men, who call themselves supporters on here is pathetic though.

In a 50/50 situation on a surface like that I’d rather see our bhoys stay safe for the big games approaching. St Mirren didn’t have that problem because this is their big game and so were fully committed every time. Added to the fact we played gash for long spells with a sprinkle of some bad luck at times.

Some would rather see us risk injury and face the Italian champs with a depleted team.

    ======================================================

That’s a fair point, Izzy. I concur with the priority sentiment.

However, we do have enough about us to beat the likes of St.Mirren’s commitment by playing football to our potential.

The only reason that doesn’t happen is down to the players’ approach as a collective.

If Charlie hadn’t hit his pen like Russel Grant swatting a fly we probably would have taken another 2 or 3 off a disheartened team.

The best way to knock the fight out of an opponent on a football pitch is to make them chase slick, accurate passes until their legs and heart have had enough.

Our Celtic team has shown they are capable of doing syuch against domestic opposition. We shouldn’t nee dto engage them in a fight. The fact we needed to and failed is down to the players’ attitude, not ability.

  14. a truely ‘abe lincoln’ performance from celtic today

We don’t have a divine right to win

However I believe we have a divine right to expect players in a CFC jersey to show a proper attitude

They did not and for that they should be rightly criticised

Sorry to say, it’s not that good

  17. CultsBhoy loves being 1st forever & ever on

Drawing parallels with Barca is bizarre. Did St Mirren hold out against a 90 minute onslaught from a technically more gifter team?

    No that’s not what I witnessed either…

Great points about Watt and Dylan…if I were either of those 2 I’d be hacked off. By rights Watt should be starting ahead of Hooper. watt is the Future Hooper is slipping in to the past

  18. I need to express my pain at such an inept performance.

I have seen us do 1 treble in my near 50 years on this earth.

We are not nearly as good a side as many on here have convinced themselves.

Today we had a home crowd advantage.

For the umpteenth time this season we have failed at home against considerably weaker ( on paper) sides .

Today result was not a shock for me.

ICT, Killie, Hibs, St Johnstone,Arbroath, have all humbled us at home before today.

Too many players who are not worth the wages we pay them.

Neil Lennon , must also do better.

The resources that he has available to him , should mean that we can lose the odd game against inferior opposition.

Not that we win the odd game.

  19. I couldn’t care less about the other results today …other than

Just shows that there are too many big time Charlie footballers with poor attitudes

  20. A winger, a midfielder who possesses enough skill to penetrate, and who has vision. Another rock of a centre back would be helpful…I’m thinking all this transfer talk of players leaving for here and there isn’t the best. So what if we make Hooper that top salary..offer victor the earth…do you think they’d still wanna stay…or are their dreams elsewhere.

    A perfect day

    for an upset

    Take care Celts

    ———————————–

Felt it in my bones. Saint Mirren adapted better to conditions and moved the ball much better than we did. The number of loose balls picked up by them either when defending or attacking was quite noticeable. In games that we win we do that.

Lost too many loose balls in tangles that should have been tackles.

Summed up by NL as lackof intensity and hunger served on a complacent platter. Saints sensed this and exercised much better ball control and passing and deserved to win.

  22. Our attitude was stinking today. Summed up when 2 of our players couldn’t go for a forward ball because they couldn’t be arsed getting themselves on-side quickly enough.

Charlie scores with the penalty we win the game simple really

Plus on chances alone we should have been out of sight

On chances alone Barcelona woulda scudded us…lucky for us we took our chances,,,, they missed theirs…today was a game where we squandered possession, missed chances,,, and the saints took theirs. We were well beaten.

    Really??

As if this day couldnt get any worse….!

    —–

Yeah, IMO great performance by the lead but the movie overall was no better than a History Channel doc (yet the History Channel wouldn’t have changed the facts like this movie)

  25. PFayr,

No problem with criticism of the team. It’s healthy. Just as long as it’s reasoned criticism delivered with a sense of proportion.

  26. ….PFayr

I agree that the players should show proper attitude….but, there is always a but, I hark back to what I always say when the players are critisised for showing a lack of attitude.

You get what you pay for.

Players who have a top quality attitude cost money we don’t have or won’t spend, players who have the winning mentality 99% of the time play for the top clubs.

    We are where we are.

I all the games we have capitulated this season, the whole team collectivly have had a bad day.

I would promote Jim Mc Guinness to looking after the first team for a while and see if he can change the attitude, it can’t do any harm, it might just have the desired effect.

Just back in from the game………mega p#ssed off

    better hungrier team won.

Sh#t hole Hampden be coming a graveyard for us.

  28. I am speaking about the matches at Hampden, against Ross County, Motherwell ,Killie, Hearts, and St Mirren.

I know we have beaten a couple of other sides other than Motherwell at Hampden, I just can’t recall who they were.

  29. I’m signing off for a few hours, maybe for tonight. I’m very disappointed but am still an unrepentent Fenian BarSteward, who is proud to be a Tim. Looking forward to midweek game and of course to the big one on Feb 12th. I’ve already forked out over 300 Euro on Flights & Hotel for that one and still have no ticket. So if ye think ye have problems, think again. Hail Hail All for a while.

Under Lenny we have beaten Aberdeen twice, Motherwell & Falkirk and lost to Ross Co, Deadco, Killie, Hearts & St Mirren at Hampden
