Standing up for your views, San Siro

658

Another day another Uefa fine for crowd-related transgressions, the umpteenth in recent years.  When we went to Seville we knew you could take tens of thousands of Celtic fans anywhere, secure in the knowledge they would make friends with police and locals alike.  That reputation’s gone, the Fifa and Uefa awards, relics.

The world appears to have its share of Pussy Rebels.  Someone who will tarnish another’s reputation (in this case Celtic) but not have sufficient courage in their convictions (in this case their right to break Uefa rules) that they will do so in their own name, accepting consequences accordingly.

The internet is full of them too, keyboard hard men who will carry a campaign to the ends of the earth, as long as it doesn’t leave a trace of identifying information.  If their name gets out, they will run 100m in the opposite direction of their declared stance, faster than Usain Bolt at am Olympic final.  Pussy Rebels, every one of them.  Lots of people have crazy/offensive/just plain wrong views, but manage to put their names to them – nutcases, but Tiger Rebels.

If you have a view, or way you like to enjoy a game of football, stand up for it.

The incidents in Zagreb pale into insignificance compared to the mini-bus attack which left a child injured before the League Cup semi-final.  That wasn’t a rule transgression, it was proper violence.

A few days after the incident I wrote I was concerned there had been no arrest.  Despite the overwhelming outrage among Celtic fans and others, and the damage done to the victim, the reward money is still unclaimed.  Do the proper thing, report the crime and claim your reward.  We have a reputation worth putting your name to.

Not sure how things will go (on the field) tomorrow night.  Celtic have an incredible record in the San Siro over 90 minutes, four draws and I think only a couple of defeats?  A win would see us into the last 16, it’s a huge ask, but don’t bet against Ronny.

Farewell James Easdale, we’ve loved your work.

My thanks to Andy Coyle.  Don’t know him from Adam, but he called me out of the blue, met outside Celtic Park, and put £100 in my hand for our Mary’s Meals appeal.  God bless the Celtic support.

On the subject of which, you know you’re dealing with someone special when you learn Lisa Hague, Kris Commons partner, bought a ticket for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner.  She’ll be helping out too, more on that later.  After the dinner we have Packy Bonnar, Joe Miller, Tommy Coyne and the one-and-only Tom Boyd, with Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein and Patricia Ferns on song.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. !!Bada Bing!!

Assuming Ronny goes with his chosen 4-2-3-1, Guidetti seems an obvious choice. He was brilliant last week, not just in how he took his goal, but the way he held the ball up beforehand. He unsettled their defence, something Griffiths hadn’t done for all of 70 mins.

You could toss a coin to decide who starts between Griffiths & Guidetti. Either way both will play at some stage.

But Leigh Griffiths ran about an awful lot in the first 70mins?

He did achieve an awful lot of runabootery – must have earned at least 50 Deila pts.

Kojo moment – when Kenny Misser had pace and played for us, I thought it would be good to put him on late in the game to harry defenders, but WGS always played him from the start. I remain befuddled.

Had a debate with a mate last night. I reckon we could win English Championship with our current squad. He thought we would struggle.

We’d be top 6 (play offs) at least and a decent shout to get automatic promotion. Go to quite a lot of Championship games and Derby and Middlesborough are the stand outs. The rest aren’t that great. It’s just a very tough league due to the number of games and the physical nature of most teams.

I watched Bournemouth play Leeds a couple of weeks ago when they were top of the league. I thought they were awful, possibly an off night, but there is no way that they would beat us.

Hmmmm…..Ronny likes runabootery, but Guidetti scored and “holds the ball up better”

“the ball sticks to him” “can play with his back to goal” – and other assorted soccer cliches

Who was the tube on BBC radio – Sons of Struth person – who sat at the front of the Raith crowd “helping my disabled friend” (cause he is such a nice guy), and didn’t hear any sectarian singing?

Did hear “maybe two” chants about Stan Collymore – “but what I heard wasn’t what Collymore seems to have heard” (to much chuckling in the studio).

Died in the wool bigot and racist.

Anyway – first and last thing I’m saying on the matter (probably).

Getting excited about tomorrow. Heard Wee GMS speaking earlier about the prospect of playing Inter – sounded like a wean who had found a Golden Ticket in a Wonka Bar!!!!

  14. Sorry – way off topic but the guy just really annoys me. Jim Murphy is someone I should empathise with but he disgusts me. In the referendum he related to placard-holders as “rioters”. No Jim, that’s democracy.

Today I have a leaflet through the door trying to frighten me about the future of the NHS. You get the idea (as in the referendum) – lets get them frightened. It even says in the strapline “Only the Scottish Labour has a plan to protect the NHS” when the the SNP Government is working daily to develop the NHS against the UK drive towards privatisation.

Stuntman Jim is the only Celtic fan I have ever been ashamed of. Only interested in Scotland when his UK ambitions were thwarted. A sad, despicable right-wing antantacist who, with his soft-spoken delivery, tries to con us to believe that he has some interest in the normal man and woman in Scotland. A disgrace. As always, he promotes fear rather than hope.

From the games I have watched live, I would say that Brentford, Derby, Ipswich and Bournemouth are all decent sides – missed the Middlesbro game unfortunately so cant really comment.

I would agree that we are top 6 and might well win it – but not sure we would win it in a canter.

That said, I think that the two Dundee Utd boys have strengthened Celtic considerably – Armstrong could become our Steven Gerrard (when he was good).

Jeezo wee Alfie/alias Jim Murphy will be going bananas when he reads that.

I agree with what you say but as I’ve said on here a few times. I dislike all politicians, when I vote I will be writing none of the above.

Anyway coupon up last night and have backed big Virgil at 25/1 tomorrow for first goal. Barca Derby and Brentford was the treble.

There’s a thread on hunmedia by the vanguard bellends claiming a group of feyenoord fans (they say 120 of them) are teaming up with some Celtic supporters to cause trouble on sunday in glasgow.

    Alfie..,

Celtic has always had very strong links to the Irish emancipation movement, or should we simply ignore that political connection ?

    >>>>>

Not being contrary for the sake of it, but what are these ‘very strong links’ you speak off? Celtic have pretty much struck me as being non political since the start of the 20th century. Do you mean some of the supporters or the club itself? Maybe I’m wrong – can you point me towards CFC politics somewhere?

I accept a pride in our irish roots but other than that…..only political intervention I remember CFC making is handing out ‘Stop these evil chants’ about IRA chanting in the 80s.

  21. Football these days is mental.

    Rather ironic.

Celtic player banned for 7 games for racial abuse with no evidence.

  23. We as Celtic supporters constantly bemoan (rightly) the other side’s inability to be objective regarding Chanting etc. I do think it is time we accepted our own responsibility:

    I have had altercations on several occasions with other Celtic supporters over the years;

    1. Singing soon there’ll be no Protestants at all”

    2. Calling Kevin Patrick Harper (Hibs) a Black B,,,,,,

    3. Once, when a comment I made to a colleague (whilst wearing no colours) was misunderstood, irrespective that it was a private conversation.

One of these was nearly a physical fight inside the stadium.

So for Celtic’s sake, let’s cut out the discriminatory add-ons

No “F… EUFA or similar puerile banners

    No Flares (Explosives not trousers)

And what is with the Feyenoord/Celtic friendship FB page with its anti-semitic sentiments?

I think we would win it based upon home performances.

Away from home our results would be mixed, a few wins, a few draws, a few defeats and I suspect we would get the odd mid week away from home stuffing
