Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

  7. Who is this rangers that is being discussed here? I have heard rumours that such a club once existed and was renowned for its cheating and its followers who were bigoted beyond belief. I believe they were also renowned for doing unspeakable things with goats that involved the use of brown brogue wellingtons, I can’t go on the images are too disturbing……….

I clicked onto an RM link posted earlier. The hatred and bile spewing from the zombies is truly disgusting.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>

Did you have a read at ” The prevalence of Irish Republican sectarianism” thread?

I would lift the link but even I found it unbelievable.

  17. Based on the way the money is divided for the semi finals I’m not sure a bhoycott would do much good as the zombies will get rental money regardless of how many fans turn up. All the gate receipts and TV money etc. for the semi finals is divided by the participating teams once the SFA have taken their cut

    Excerpt from the rules

The receipts from the Semi-Final matches in the Competition shall be pooled and shall be deemed to include monies received from all admission charges to the matches, radio and television fees, and any sums in respect of advertising within the stadium specially for the occasion.

The Association shall retain 10% of the balance, after payment of the expenses of the two matches and the clubs’ guarantees.

The remainder, after payment of the rental for the use of a ground or grounds, the scale of which shall be determined by the Board, shall be divided, equally, among the four clubs.

    Link to the rules http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/resources/documents/SFAPublications/SFAHandbook/12%20CupCompRules.pdf

It’s the same for the final except it’s divided by 2 teams not 4

I imagine the rental cost of 2 x semi -finals is similar to the rental cost of the final

  18. Sevco doing pay at the gate this weekend for Airdrie Cup game after only shifting a couple of thousand tickets. The journey lol!

It’s standard for the venue owner to take a slice of the gate. 20% is common.

  20. The ’82 game in Amsterdam. As Cruyff was going off, he told his team mates to beware of the Celtic sub who had not long been on the park. They didn’t watch George Mac closely enough. This info was in a newspaper report of the game the next day. Aye, ole Johan knew a player when he saw one.

  21. Just 24 hours after reporting Anthony Stokes

had signed a three-year deal, chief executive

Peter Lawwell is looking to tie down another

two key members of Neil Lennon’s squad.

Fellow-striker Samaras, who scored his 50th

league goal against Partick Thistle at the

    weekend, and former Cardiff midfielder

Ledley are out of contract at the end of the

    season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Lawwell said:

“We’re talking to the representatives of both

players. We’ll be doing that over the next few

    weeks.

“It’s the first meeting we’ll have with

    Georgios’ representatives. We’ve been talking

regularly to Joe’s and hopefully we’ll get

something tied up before the end of

    December.

“Before the window opens, that’s our

objective, to have things clear before then.

“Ideally you’d like it done by then. Hopefully

they stay and hopefully they commit

    themselves to Celtic.

“But if not, you need to make arrangements

and that will be the right time to get clarity

    there.”

  22. TBB

That’s in the earlier rounds of the competition – it doesn’t apply for the Semi Final and finals, the participating clubs share the gate receipts and TV money etc. after the SFA have taken their 10%

So if we had a round 4 game v Hibs at Celtic Park

We would take 20% of the gross – which is used to pay match expenses, referee etc. and then the other 80% would be divided equally.

The Semi-Finals and Finals are played at neutral venues (usually Hampden) and the SFA pay a rental fee to the venue owner. The SFA pay this from their 10% cut of the gross earnings

So basically even if no fans turn up to either semi-final the zombies will still be paid the same amount of money as they are renting the ground

Now if they made the semi-final – stop laughing, this is serious – then they would get a a quarter share of the pot.

  23. I want to watch Celtic wherever and whenever I can, however, im not prepared to be subjected to vile hatred and state sponsored bigotry, and honest mistakes at every turn.

So, I think personally, I just wont put up with it any more.

I much prefer to see the bhoys in the champions league, rather than the cesspit of scoddish fitba.

I reserve the right to condemn corruption by not buying into it financially.

  29. Downtrodden Sevcomedians’ pursuit of truth and justice:

“We, unfortunately, have been made all too aware of the sea of Irish Republican hatred in Scottish culture . We are saddenigly confronted on an almost daily basis by supporters of a football club which seems to be nothing more than a front for prejudice and hatred. Their former chairman, Lord/Baron Reid-that well known champion of the so-called disenfranchised , even used official club AGMs to pander to this element, making blatantly sectarian and inflammatory remarks. The press, as is their modus operandi, ignored this moral sin coming from Parkhead.

We are sick of this hatred and the Republican anthems of anti-British racism. Again, the press remain silent.

Last week, as the supporters of that club indulged in an unholy trinity of terroristic racism, sectarianism and antisemitism…..

Ultimately, my own suspicions that this culture of bigoted hatred would tie in with the rise of dissident Republican terror appear to be well proven. The scale, nature and gravity of the police action confirm that there is a growing culture of terroristic Irish Republicanism in Scotland.

Still the press seem totally oblivious to the link, never giving air to criticism of their favourite club. Such wilful ignorance is akin to tacit compliance toward a backward, prejudiced and dangerously violent culture.

One can only fear for the future unless sudden and drastic action is taken.”

    ——

“Superb piece of writing OP. Absolutely superb.” [‘saddenigly’ is a personal favourite’]

    ——

“Compliments from yourself on writing are most welcome. It’d be like Laudrup complimenting my wing play”

    ——

    ” Well said

As a wise man said to me at the weekend hundreds of years ago the Covenanters fought, lost their life’s, love ones, everything they had in order to prevent this type of thing from happening and eventually won

Now slowly but surely we are slipping back into it and this time it’s the Scottish Government, the SNP, the taig left wing media, politicians, Glasgow City council, the footballing authorities, the schooling, The Irish power sharing agreement, Tony Blair, John Reid, George Galloway etc you name it – everyone’s in on it”

    ——

“I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face – the Famine song is a legitimate question.

If you openly support Irish republicanism (and they do) then go back to Ireland if you cannot or will not embrace our culture.”

    ——

“I always remember how the question was misrepresented as a statement or command. It was stated that you can’t tell people to go home, when that was never said In law, what was actually said is relevant, not some distortion of it. Anyone can tell that anything that begins ” why don’t you…” is unambiguously a question [Aye, like ‘Why don’t you take a flying **** to yourself’ – just asking]. To pretend otherwise is counter to truth, honesty, meaning and logic.

However, decades of “go home ya h*!s”, complete with insulting sectarian epithet-something notably absent from TFIO -pass without comment.

Of course, this comparison is dismissed as whataboutery, which is a sinister tactic used by deceitful and unscrupulous “journalists” to stifle debate and dissent. Heaven forfend that the old principles in law and morality of universality and eqallity apply.”

    ——

“It’s certainly a dishonest tactic to take a perfectly reasonable response to celtic fan’s anti-British behaviour and hold it aloft as being inflammatory, while completely ignoring the context of that response. Furthermore – unless I’m mistaken – it was also widely reported in the media that the song ‘mocked the potato famine,’ I don’t recall any such sentiments being expressed in the entirety of the lyrics; am I in error?”
