Strikers and the comfort zone

538

There’s something healthy when the arrival of a new striker, who has yet to trouble the net, has raised the game of an incumbent.  If you talk to footballers they’ll tell you they need to be challenged.  Even most greats hit a comfort zone, where they know they are cherished by manager and fans alike, so that knot in the stomach about where the next contract is coming from never materialises.

Gary Hooper missed this at Celtic.  He was the apple of Neil Lennon’s eye, and clearly top striker at Celtic, but a few seasons in his appetite for the same old challenge seemed to wane.  I’m assured by those who shared a dressing room with Henrik Larsson, this was one area which set the Swede aside.  The accolades meant nothing to him, he wanted every trophy, every record, which perhaps indicates why he captured the Champions League in his mid-30s.

  2. Go Monaghan !!

Great first half, after dodgy first 5 mins. 4pt lead at HT.

Protected lead in 2nd half, inviting Donegal to take long shots.

Tactics paid off, just, as Donegal had numerous wides – incl last kick of game which would have tied game.

Some will say Donegal threw it away, going by attempts at pts – other way of looking at would be to say Monaghan deserved it by putting pts on the board and restricting Donegal to shots from long range, resulting in numerous wides.

    Either way – Monaghan won

Theres a couple of useful programs for cleaning out your computer that might be worth a try.

I use WinASO Registry Optimiser and CCleaner.

They are both very similar…..they can delete a lot of the junk that builds up through browsing the internet and also deleting old and unused registry keys.

They pretty much have a lot of Windows tools all available in the 1 program and it saves time looking through Windows to find them.

They will also defragment your hard drive and can stop some of the programs that are on your taskbar from starting automatically(they can make it take longer to boot up)

Id say try a few of those and if its still slow maybe its down to your hard drive being almost full or perhaps your laptop could now be doing with a RAM upgrade?

Perhaps a few things to try?

Some Security programs like Norton can have a real slow down effect as well so perhaps if your troubles have started after installing new security….it may be that program.

    ==========================

A memory upgrade can make a difference and it is easy to do amd not necessarly expensive.

I use Crucial’s memory scanner which will look at how many memory slots are in the box/laptop and recommend an upgrade with a price.

If there are free slots then they can be used if non free then the chip held can be replaced by one with more memory.

Web site is here http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/memory-info folks can either use menu if they know their system or download the scanner. I’ve used it a lot.

All well and re VVD – however if the CB from Pollok has CL and Europa league experience, particularly the CL which is a higher standard than the EPL, this is a factor which the potential buyers like to downplay as it drives up the value

Regarding your hard drive……IF it is about 3/4 full it will be slowing you laptop down.

Sometimes it can fill up quickly if you save lots of images from a digital camera so moving them onto an external drive like a usb stick or memory card can free up a lot of space and speed your device up again.

You may also have some old programs that you do not use that could be uninstalled.

Hello there, now I feel you may be at the wind up, nothing wrong with a sausage supper. For me a puddin supper with a single steak pie is my go to option, especially from the Atlantic in Whifflet.

Today’s fish stew ended up as an oven dish. Got stuck into the strong cider in the euphoria of my Olympian road running efforts. FYI I polished off 3 bottles all with an ABV in excess of 7% before 2pm. Decided to throw new potatoes, garlic, peppers, red onion, capers and paprika into a flat dish full of sizzling olive oil. After 25 minutes. , I added lemon juice, more paprika and white Rioja. Five minutes later I slapped sea bass and cod fillets on top, sealed with foil and stuck in oven for 10 minutes.

In the interim, I was starting on the rest of the white Rioja whilst cutting up some nice bread.

All told, the dish was glorious , myself and the Mrs dined like millionaires for a few quid.

    What’s not to like?

    That’ll teach you for asking….

    Congrats to Monaghan.

They thoroughly deserved the win, though had Donegal shown more composure late on, they could have caught them, but it would have been undeserved.

I think a revamp, with fresh faces, if they are around, is required for Donegal.

Unfortunately Celtic won’t have a say in this one, VVD will be the one who decides.

And Celtic have done very well these past few years in the selling, we aren’t mugs.

Glad you took it in good heart, to be honest looking at your posts I thought you would. I have had a few wee nights out in the brig back in the day…a place called Scruffy Murphys? I think. I am probably a good 10 years older than you so maybe before your time..

Anyway, if you get the chance use my recipe, no fee of course, I’m on the second bottle of white Rioja and all is well with the world.

We won’t keep a disaffected player. I’m sure Celtic have told VVD quietly through successive windows, that we’ll sell when the correct offer is made.

VVD doesn’t set the price Celtic will, and my point is we should have a look at the ridiculous prices paid in transfersville, before we set the price.

It’s time for Celtic to raise the bar, and that’s based on each time I see VVD play, including his thirty yard pin point pass for the fourth goal, just yesterday.

Not too shabby for a CB

  23. Celtic have been great over the past years when selling to the EPL, if VVD goes there then I’m sure we’ll get a good price but I don’t think we are in the position to demand some crazy fee (as the player will know he’s being priced out of a move)

Exactly, if Ross McCormack can go for 11m then we have to re-evaluate our position. Sometimes I think EPL sides are more willing to pay the higher fee when they know wage demands are going to be astromonical, which is not the case with guys coming from Scotland

Scruffy Murphys? Never even knew there were women in there…mind you drink had always been taken.

  29. Gerryfaethebrig: I can’t see why anyone would think that. It will be a massive national event with many political, trade union and community groups taking part. There will be plenty of Garda supervision so I don’t see any safety issues at all. It will be as big and as well supervised as the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

    Very good point.

It seems to me that class and pedigree should not be dictated by which league the transfer system happens to find you playing in.

If EPL clubs had scouted and bought VVD from Eredivisie in the first place maybe the way he’s playing now they’d be happy to pay double figure millions, that is paid across the EPL and even The Championship.

It’s time for Celtic to ‘buck the trend’ of low price CL experienced players, and demand more money.

  32. Thunder Road: I will be over on the 1st and can meet up after the game. I volunteered for the Kano Foundation pre-match collection. I’ll email you in the week before the match
