Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

  1. Celtic_First @ 1008,

    If only!

I read earlier – I think, sorry but only had a quick scan at earlier pages – that there are some posters who believe the MSM are giving this much bigger coverage than other situation where seats have been broken by other sets of supporters eg when apparently Aberdeen came down to Celtic Park earlier this season.

I have no doubts this is true, but what should be remembered is that many of the sources of the pictures and “stories” came directly from disgusted Celtic supporters, many of whom were at the game themselves, who posted on various social media sites.

In effect the Celtic supporters own disgust at the rogue element has come back and bitten us in the jacksie, as lets face it, we all know the msm dont need a second invitation to have a go at us.

Im not saying Im blaming those supporters who posted on FB/Twitter etc or that they/we have scored an own goal, rather that, because we have a large majority who are fed up with this behaviour, and publicly at that, our own outrage (perhaps too strong a word, but will suffice for now) has inadvertedly played into our detractors hands, as they will never acknowledge that very disgust and outrage stemming from our own support!

    HAIL! HAIL!

  2. IMO the problem the Green Brigade causes is about attitude. They are constantly confrontational and pick and choose which laws they choose to obey (re pyro, lateral movement etc). So by their actions and statements they encourage others to disobey them too. So whether they committed the acts of bad behaviour on Friday or not is irrelevant IMO – at the very least they are the catalyst for the events. I can’t think of a time when one part of our support has been responsible for so much disruption. They have manage to gradually lose the goodwill from most of the support through their own arrogance and stupidity.

Yes in an ideal world that would be acceptable to all parties. I worry now that it’s too late for that and that anyone admitting guilt would be hung out to dry.

I broke a seat at Pittodrie a couple of seasons ago. Well to be accurate I didn’t actually break the seat, the concrete terracing broke away and the seat with it. I immediately alerted a steward to the accident only to hear him reply that it was a common occurance and not to worry.

I heard no more about it.

It’s not too late. When the polis find them anyway and chap their door at polis o’clock, or ask them to step this way when they are at passport control coming back from Catalonia, then it would be too late.

  5. Some excellent comments on here btw amongst the entrenched positions. Don’t get much time on CQN these days (as I prefer to stay sane) but always a pleasure to read some of the contributors that really do widen the outlook to things I hadn’t thought of.

JJ, thanks for the gentle education. My bad. “Temporarily suspended” pending noose.

  6. And I don’t think the Celtic support would allow them to be hung out to dry. That would be terrible. If any young bhoy comes forward and fesses up, I will defend him night and day (from my MacBook).

I would have thought that one of the “hundreds of other buses” would have picked him up at Monifieth rather than have him make his way to The Kingsway “on a freezing cold day”.

To be honest (aaargh! I sound like McCoist), compared to most Hun posts, this one is pretty good. He must have a Celtic supporting mate who helped him pen it.

I looked at your posts with some surprise on the weekend, it does you great credit to come and post as you did last night, I raise my hat to you as I do to Tiny Tim for his unreserved acceptance of your apology. It makes coming onto the blog worthwhile.

I wish both you guys well.

Only hypocrites would support an organisation run by people for whom they have contempt.

    macjay,

It’s a good job that we did not apply this thinking in the early nineties, I think most of us had contempt for the then custodians but we tackled it head-on to make the changes that have brought us thus far.

Custodians are temporary, the club will survive them and some of them will not be very good, we have been cursed with a few who have not been very good in the recent past.

  11. In the summer we will again lose key players because we’ll get offers we can’t refuse.

Contrary to the majority I would suggest that big Saturday Night may not be attracting most attention, he’s not yet an international and instead the form of Mikael will be what’s interesting others.

The balancing act will be very difficult but I’d suggest we do everything to keep Virgil and instead, sadly, rely on the cover we have at RB in Adam and Darnell.

In back of a fag packet budgeting we could get upwards of £10m if you perm any 2 of the following, but do everything we can to restrict it to 2 if we have a chance to build for next year.

Losing any is a blow but if we can keep the majority, along with the rest of the current squad and add a couple, particularly a striker, we’d be in good shape to take on next year with Nir and Derk getting to grips with things here. I’d like to make sure we keep Joe too, we need players with experience who know the club.

This morning in a building site hut in the middle of the desert Mesaieed, 70Km south of Doha, Qatar…..

I met the first football supporter Ive seen in work for months, Asian work mates don’t even know what the Champions League is, a fella with a Steaua Bucharest badge above his desk, delighted to meet another football supporter we got taking…

Steaua fella ‘You Celtic or rangers?

    ‘Celtic of course’

    Steaua ‘Yes, good’

    Neil Can,

There is a way to voice disapproval of any aspect of Celtic’s actions, or non actions.

You, to your credit, aided by a few others, used this method to great effect recently.

You played the game according to the rules, thanks to Fergus, who created the PLC, which gives shareholders a voice.

The SFA will eventually have to be restructured or die.

Perhaps football’s Secret of Fatima, to which you are privy, may provide a clue as to how this will be achieved.

In the meantime, the club must be protected and defended from all attack, from outside or within.

just to mix up two topics, is it possible to have an interest in Green Brigade stamps, such as those put on broken seats in Fir Park, without being a Green Brigader, just for the study like.

That’s Green Shield rather than Green Brigade! :-) 20 Green Shield Stamps pays for 1 Fir Park seat!

  21. Listening to Call Kaye on shortbread this morning. They had Les Gray on speaking for the polis. What a frightingly stupid man. He was painting a nightmare picture of Scottish football . Talking of a cancer that was spreading throughout the fans.

Then a lady came on and said how ,last Saturday, she was trapped scared in her car in the city centre by the Green Brigade as they walked up to Celtic Park for the match.

No one seemed to pick up on the fact that Celtic played on Friday at Motherwell.

Why let the facts spoil a good story?

I think they find it easier to police the section at home games.

    A fair point mate.

I was listening to the radio last night and someone from the Police Federation was on when Tom English asked him directly why the police did nothing when they could see damage happening. The short answer was that there were too many people in the crowd for the police to deal with since policing had been scaled back over the past few years at football games.

To put it another way, his was the same message we always get from the Police Federation who, no matter what the question is, make a political point asking for more cash for the police. I don’t understand why they get someone from the Police Federation onto these programmes – it’s always just a pitch for overtime money and they never answer the core question – why didn’t they do their job? Tom English should have followed up by asking why they couldn’t call for reinforcements as they did when they were kettling kids in the Glallowgate?

  25. Just what have the GB done to deserve this unbridled disgust from many on here.

They have never caused any violence whatever at any ground visited. In stark contrast to the Ajax thugs, who our MSM entirely ignored.

They were not arrested in Amsterdam.

They have hoisted banners and compiled Tifos, the majority of Celtic fans loved.Yes there will be the occasional one that is political, that might cause offence to some.Spare me the last handwringing at the Bobby Sands/William Wallace display.A point brilliantly made.

They support the team for 90 mins, whatever the result or performance.

They have brought many new songs to the fans singing repertoire.COYBIG,an example.

They have provided a great atmosphere at every game ,in a stadium that was fast becoming a morgue.

    Against.

They sing “BOTOB,ROH”.They hoist the occasional political banner.Thats about it.

Compared to the ultras who follow the majority of teams throughout Europe, they are pussycats.Flares, riots, police attacks. As I said earlier, the Ajax thugs are what constitutes Ultras in Europe.

Our MSM have had a field day,and I am afraid too many of our fans have gone along with it.The only people blackening our name are a few teenage scumbag casuals, and a rabid MSM.
