Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

  1. I am not Celtic’s greatest supporter, I’ve seen the team play maybe a dozen times, I don’t live in Scotland but have a great love for the club. One of the things that cemented that love was travelling and meeting fans, seeing how they behaved, witnessing the positive reaction of our European hosts when travelling away for games. In the next few days I’m expecting my first child. For the first time in my life Celtic has moved down a rung in my priority list but something very special in my life. I would love someday to take my child to Glasgow and show them why I love this club so much.

The pictures from Fir park are disgusting. Not because there was a bit too much fun had and a bit of accidental damage was done. But because it seems in the stand last Friday the love of the team, the upholding of the reputation for decency and respect was not there. If it was, the first idiot to do damage to one seat would have been marched out by those around him, an from my past experience, maybe an apology made to the stewards.

I fully expected, again from my past experience of our supporters, a total unreserved condemnation of this behaviour. Have I been blind, are we actually not that different after all? Nobody who witnessed that behaviour is immune from responsibility. No supporter of the club is immune from a few days of soul searching over why this has happened and how we can all make sure it never happens again.

I still hope to bring my little one to the club I love but only if behaviour like this is hated and abhorred by every last lover of my beloved club.

  2. Wonder if the club will extend the SB refund “deal” to those not in 111? Think not – be too scared the numbers who would accept but I suspect many fans, while bitterly opposing what happened on Friday night, will be as disgusted as me by the way the club have collared some of our own while sitting blindly by as the corrupt SFA, led by CO, get their way.

The SMSM reaction is exactly as we have come to expect yet these people are not only welcome at CP (Keevins excepted) but we also take their silver. The Board have played right into their hands. Yesterday’s statement should have been about the seat business and nothing else whatsoever. If the Board wanted to take issue with the GB that should have been done on a different day

One SB in 143 available next season lhads.

Also, hard to believe we are playing at the Nou Camp tomorrow. If I has not waved my two sons off I could almost have forgotten.

What a sad and pathetic way to end a CL campaign. As I feel right now that’s another 6 unsold tickets next year, Peter.

Do you know who said the Green Brigade should have stopped them? The Green Brigade:

“Ultimately, we should have had greater control of the bodies present within our block and our failure to do so has resulted in events which are unacceptable and we will strive to ensure that such scenes are not repeated”

I do hope those annoyed by this do as I am and highlight it to the BBC. It has gone unchecked too long.

Those who allow her lies oxygen should be brought to account. They should know better and be informed and at worst case correct such blatant untruths.

Anybody can hand in their season ticket at any time and get a refund based on the remaining games. The club have to do this by law, as you cannot charge for a service not yet received.

  6. Morning all. Brightish down here and very mild.

Was out and in the car I heard a wee bit of Radio Scotland’s discussion on the football and its current problems. My congratulations to Peter, who spoke very well, particularly with that Les Gray. Is there not something Celtic can do about this person, who is at least partly to blame for the current situation? His advocacy for the Act which is the occasion of much of the nonsense is still in full swing.

Best line of the programme I heard was “the reason for the trouble is that the big teams hate that the deid team still exist”. Classic.

Radio Scotland……..Call Kaye discussion featuring hurting Hun Les Gray pouring out his anti Celtic bile,

    ————–

I caught this on the way to work, Les Gray was / is an extremist. His language and frothing at the mouth rhetoric.

The erudite Celtic man, on his way to Barcelona was excellent.

Today, I feel a lot of mixed emotions about being a Celtic supporter, hurt even.

Not by the actions of neddish youths, but by the reaction of the rest of the support.

I have seen individuals with Celtic colours on do all sorts of bad things at matches, and in daily life. At no point do I think that means everyone is tarred, or that everyone shares a bit of the blame.

I think that collective blaming and shaming is going to haunt the pontificators in the future.

I dont want a group disbanded because they choose to protest in song or banner.

I do want those who host an event, pay police and stewards to manage it, to take their responsibilities seriously.

There were systemic failures in the organisation of this match.

We have witness accounts of drunken youths outside the ground.

We have statements of being directed to any turnstyle.

We have people saying they couldnt take their allocated seat, because they were not even in the right tier of the stand.

All of this, is now ignored, because the scapegoat is found, and thats allright then.

I predict a hardening of attitudes, the youths dont go away as some would like, they will grown some and come back smarter.

If my supporters bus was banned from receiving tickets, because some day “non members” behaved appalingly, I wouldnt be accepting of taking responsibility for their actions.

Les Grays police should do what they are paid to do.

    Rant over.

I was planning some matches over xmas, I was in the Celtic shop in Clydebank last night when I heard the news breaking about the Green Brigade dispersment.

I was actually flicking through the CQN annual at the time.

I left without buying anything, no tickets, no pressies.

I am properly bored with victimisation of any group of celtic supporters.

People found guilty , after proper investigation, or better still lifted while doing it (cowardly cowardly policing and stewarding) thats the people to blame.

I feel really quite lost with all this, to a point of I dont recognise my fellow supporters who want hundreds of other fans banned.

Quite sick with it all , actually.

  12. A view from abroad ———-

Had a chat with a Catania fan last week .A regular attender at the game.

He told me that business had taken him to Glasgow and that he’d taken the opportunity to attend the PTFC V Celtic game.

He treated me to the usual sneer re the quality of the football /expressed surprise at how drunk some people were{ early on a Sunday, many of them teenagers !] and poured scorn on the atmosphere..Not much colour, not much noise, all very well behaved..[ drunks who couldn’t speak without swearing apart } He was at the Thistle end.

  13. Ernie Lynch,

My experience has been more like the Bairds Bar school of justice, act like a thug, get put in your place fairly lively. I have been given the task of getting the going home outfit, if it’s a boy I might get away with the hoopygro.

  14. Before the start of this season Celtic asked their supporters to take part in a survey. I suspect that many used the survey to state their concerns about the apparent misadministration of Scottish Football, and specifically, the apparent collusion by Scottish Football authorities and others in assisting a Rangers entity and phoenix of a club/company (clumpany) in liquidation due to financial and sporting impropriety on an unprecedented scale. It seemed that existing rules and laws (of business and football) were either being ignored or interpreted by often heavily conflicted officials to help preserve the notion of a new club as same club at the expense of sporting and business integrity. I wanted assurance that Celtic would vigorously oppose anything that conflicted with the proper application of rules, laws and the fundamental principles of business and sporting integrity.

I think that at this time I am probably disappointed at the lack of any clear statement or lead from Celtic on these matters. That said, I am not privileged to know the Club’s strategy nor am I fully aware of the constraints within which Celtic must operate.

However, I believe that the main focus for Celtic supporters at this time (notwithstanding the support of their team) should be the Scottish Football authorities and the many other groups and individuals that appear willing to go to any lengths to preserve a Rangers new club/same club phoenix, despite the unprecedented financial and sporting impropriety of the Rangers that is in liquidation. Do not forget that many creditors, including HMRC, have been cheated of tens of millions of great (sic) British pounds by an institution that has been held up as part of the fabric of our society. As far as I am concerned, that particular shred of dirty linen belongs permanently in the waste bin.

Wanton vandalism, loutish behaviour, or agenda driven/politically motivated actions by individuals and/or groupings within or attached to the Celtic support only serves to deflect attention from what should be the most important issue which is the fair and proper governance of football in Scotland.

The behaviour of a minority at Fir Park last Friday is indefensible. But if you want to understand the real issue for Scottish Football then compare the mainstream media time and energy devoted to the misbehaviour of a minority of Celtic supporters with that targeting the financial and sporting vandalism perpetrated by a club now in liquidation and its’ many heavily conflicted cheerleaders.

  19. Does anyone on here seriously believe that Lawell is less interested in having the balls to call out Deadco and his SFA masters for corruption and cheating, rather than flexing his muscles against imaginary bogeymen in our support?

The need to respond to the vandalism may have brought the issues together.

Fair point, but the Catalans are huge in terms of UEFA, we’re not, its not a level playing field in those terms. We are the kind of club who coukd be made an example of. Not that they would ever extend implementation of the rules across the board, but they would always be able to use it as a reference point.
