Suker, Uefa and regionalisation

935

Croatian hero of the 1990s, Davor Suker, currently Croatian Football Federation president, is campaigning for a place on the Uefa Executive Committee, one of 12 people chasing 7 places.

Sukor has been campaigning across south-eastern Europe, with a simple message: collapse the cream from the national leagues of 13 countries into one powerful 42-team regional league structure.  He has support across the region, including Turkey and the former Yugoslav countries.

Smaller countries across Europe have realised that they must regionalise or accept a future of irrelevance.  The Gazprom-funded deal between the Ukrainian and Russian regional league floundered at the onset or war but regionalisation is not going away.  We need innovative campaigners like Suker to rise to positions of authority, replace the ranks of the incompetent and talentless.

Well done to newco for rewarding those who used their media outlets to campaign relentlessly on their behalf in recent years with a seat in the directors’ box on Tuesday.  I’m sure David Leggat deserved the accolade of being the only mainstream media journo so honoured, which is quite something.  New season lamb is in stock early this year.

Just catching up. What does this mean (from BBC Scot):

“Paton’s appeal, and that of Ciftci, on the grounds of mistaken identity, were both upheld by the panel, as was Van Dijk’s, who claimed wrongful dismissal. ”

Does that mean Shifty got off the hook again?

    Blantyretim / Sipsini,

This country is in a better shape than most on this continent and things ARE being done. There won’t be any need for foreign aid teams – I shouldn’t be saying this as I don’t know what’s happening up the valley.

What happened last night in the town / community was the torrential rain resulted in flash flooding – combined with the geometry of where people have built their houses, the arid ground not used to that amount of sudden water, etc.

I’ve heard stories from last night that will stay with me forever.

I feel an affinity with this country – with the mix of ex-Portuguese, the original people, with whom I share an extra affinity! – and everyone else.

Everything is peaceful tonight on the seafront where I am. I just can’t sleep thinking what these families affected are going through so I’m venting here on the people of CQN.

A young man gets 4 month in prison for singing a song that most on here would agree is sectarian.

Since this song was first heard on our streets and in our stadiums we have been calling on the authorities to do something that will send out a message that songs of this nature will not be tolerated in a fair and just society.

Yet when a Sherrif has the balls to actually send out a message that this kind of sectarianism wont be tolerated some on here cry foul.

Does anyone actually think that probation or work placement would make this young man think about what he was singing about?

Just to be clear, I don’t think prison will alter his world view either but at least for a short time he will have plenty of time to reflect on why he is incarcerated and maybe he will think twice about doing it again.

F.A.B. Virgil, (I typed that as no c&p!)

Cheers, but no, it’s not that of situation. This place is as organised as you can get. This is a …..situation…..that can happen in any country.

It’s just good to know that good people are standing by if required.

And it’s good to be able to get the advice and support of good people online when you need a bit of comforting conversation.

You’re probably right, a first offender wouldn’t be sent to jail.

  22. eddieinkirkmichael,

As has been said before…if that is a first offence, it’s severe in the extreme.

I’d hate to think my bhoy getting jailed for singing something that is banned, although he should know better.

A poster on here has went through a terrible time on the word of someone pointing the finger at his bhoy, of which I’ve no doubt he was totally innocent.

I can only come to the conclusion, that there has been previous taken into consideration when the sentence was deemed. HH

Sad to hear the news of the tragedy in Angola, our son has a friend working out there too. All the best to you in what will be a difficult situation.

By the way as a sometime attender at Victoria Park with County supporting friends I always enjoy your input on the blog.

Horrendous tragedy. I used to work in Angola in the early 90,s and still have an affection for the country and its people. Trust that they will get all the help they need.

Amazed that dos Santos still runs the country. That must be about 40 years . So much for democracy.

    Tom, thanks for your reply.

I didn’t know that John McStay had to chuck football but not unsurprised with the reason he did.

Our media as like most media, cause unnecessary hassle for people so they can get more stories. Sorry for stating the obvious. The truth obviously doesn’t appeal to our media with regards to the demographics of their circustomers.

The media’s mantra of bad stories about us and good (or no bad stories) about Rangers (IL)/Sevco sell papers is very much alive.
