The truth is, football is not always exhilarating. If we were two points off the pace going into yesterday’s Premiership game, all sorts of dramas would have taken place, but with an 8 point lead and a game in hand, there was no conceivable jeopardy.
Instead of contesting for all three points with his strongest available team, Brendan Rodgers chose to rest limbs ahead of the trip to St Petersburg, where he will attempt to defend a one goal lead. This was, without shadow of a doubt, the correct course of action. There are few enough advantages of playing in a weaker league, being able to rest players before a European game is the principle benefit.
Brendan also has developmental considerations. Jack Hendry, Calvin Miller, Odsonne Edouard and Charly Musonda will all gain from game time in the first team. The expectations when playing for Celtic are uniquely onerous, these four young players will learn that from occasions like yesterday.
We came through a unique season last term. The treble was won with a procession of brilliance, but our European endeavours ended in at the Champions League group stage. If you look at the league table, you might be tempted to assume there is clear evidence that we are weaker now than a year ago, but the jury is out on that question. If we progress to the Europa League last 16 on Thursday evening, Brendan’s second season will be set to eclipse his first. This is perhaps a consequence of enduring some afternoons like yesterday.
Developing great footballers, building great teams, is not a linear process. It takes time and patience. Don’t bet against this squad delivering another treble and a European run which extends into the light nights.

Reading between the lines it seems that Catholic workers were let go while Protestant men stayed in the yard. Is this true?
My dad is long dead, but he was a sheet metal worker in Fairfields in Govan. He was 21 when war broke out, yet he ended up as flight crew in Bomber Command. I can’t figure out why he was taken from a war essential job.
Was there any real policy (official or not) of selecting men fron a specific background to be kept on as shipyard workers at the expense of another group who were volunteered by the company?
My Dad was very talented as a sheet metal worker & it was his same maths skills that he used as a navigator on Halifax bombers.
Were Catholic workers more likely to get let go from the yards?
I wish I’d talked more to him when he was still with us. Big regret that I didn’t.

BTW my extended were all servicemen during WW2.
An uncle was killed at Dunkirk.
My Uncle Pat was captured in North Africa & spent 3 years in German POW camp.
My Uncle Jimmy was a gunner on Q ships guarding convoys & he got sunk twice. Each time ending up adrift for days in a lifeboat.
Broke his nerves & it took him years to get back to some kind of normal.

Aye,there were some shocking occurrences,but a great many were by new posters,who,as GREENPINATA has pointed out,cleared off after their work was done.
Which was to get a reaction. Hence for instance,why KITALBA,AWENAW,ACGR,and many others are no longer on the site. Others,like JIMBO67 weren’t subjected to it themselves,but were sick of seeing it.

Of course she was bliddy stupid,and I’m not condoning it in any way,but I’ve frequently seen ambulances parking up without regard to other traffic.
Completely blocking the flow,on half a dozen experiences of my own.
One time,I had to go round a one-way system the wrong way because it had been blocked. Perfectly fine space available,btw. Another time,a fire engine and police car couldn’t get past,and had to go into the house and ask them to move it!
I think the clue is that this is happening more frequently. Aye,people lack sensitivity and patience,but I think the drivers could be a lot more considerate.
