I suppose it is inevitable, this far into a period of domination, that draws and defeats attract disproportionate criticism. We are not used to defeats, recently we have not even been used to a season without a treble, so reactions to dropping five points in a week have few reference points.
In the social media era, players are not immune to what is being said about them, some of them no doubt reflecting on years of successful service behind them, who perhaps feel deserted when the call was made.
I know what you’re thinking, this is classic paradoxical intent. We react to that which makes us anxious in a way that can only increase our anxiety.
Neil Lennon is dealing with the absence of Forrest, Edouard, Johnston, Jullien, Bitton, Elhamed and Barkas, and easing the return to fitness of Ajeti, Christie and Griffiths, while hurting at some painful results.
We travel to France tomorrow then back in the early hours of Friday before it all goes on the line, again, at Hampden on Sunday. All while Aberdeen rest and prepare. In these circumstances, this is a tough ask. Tougher still without support, and I don’t mean supporters, I mean actual support. This is a no-brainer time, circle the wagons and get back to doing what we always do.

Yes, it was a hard watch, our former midfield battler, and in Neil’s first managerial spell with us, I really did think that he’d break the mould of journalist code’s that we seemed to have had at our club since, 1994.
When Neil fought MIB’s, then the ‘Shame Game’ came along, and when it became apparent that, Neil wouldn’t bend over backwards for the establishment, referee strike’s, etc, I really thought our club, PLC, was going to throw a fleet of, Philadelphia lawyer’s at the case, then suddenly, and very sadly, Paul McBride QC turn’s up dead, our PLC back off, and Neil Lennon was thrown to the establishment wolves, and blamed for 100% of the ‘Shame Game’ fiasco. Since then, we’ve been punchbags off field, and its a horrible feeling, but, I can’t begin to imagine how Neil would’ve felt in 2016, when he watched on as the fan’s of the club that he physically took beatings for in the street’s of Glasgow, were queuing up to buy ‘Old Firm’ ticket’s, as the Sevco-RFC entity, came back into the top league, with Celtic supporter’s indicating that they’d moved on. hh

I do not agree.
I believe I have seen far far more calls for Neil to be punted on celtic fan related media e.t.c than in the mainstream outlets.
I also believe Neil Lennon would not have cared one jot that Celtic fans bought season tickets or tickets against a club described as Rangers F.C….infact I am sure he like almost everyone else at the time said it was great to have them back in the top league and get the ‘old firm’ fixture back.
Sorry that probably goes against your feelings but that’s what I think.

Ernie Lynch’s latest attempt at a rumour is I feel actually having a wee dig at my Pat Crerand one.
Mine isn’t a rumour but a comment from a former well liked player in conversation with a contributor to one of the sites when Pat’s name had arisen.
I met Pat several years ago, he has a sister over here and while visiting her stopped by the local Celtic Club. I was privileged to sit in his company along with 2 older supporters one of whom had family members (plural) that played for us.
Some of our support lambaste him for bigging up manure, not the way I saw it, he was then still a Celtic lhad and also told us his son made regular trips up north tae watch us taking Pat’s mother tae some of the games, in fact I believe he said that day they were both at Love Street 1986.
He was also instrumental in convoying the Celtic minded players at Old Trafford tae Parkheid for the big European and hun games.
That’s where he also told us how much better a player Bobby Murdoch was than him. I left that meeting realising how humble he was and had no idea who he was or how important he was tae us during the “years in the wilderness”.
That afternoon as he was leaving the support started singing Hail Hail, his eyes filled up as he joined in.
When I first read about him engineering his transfer I must admit I was disappointed until I started tae give it a real bit of thought.
Pat was an icon tae us, during our lean period he amassed 8 full caps, this was during a period when he had the likes of Dave Mackay for competition, in fact he replaced Mackay after the disastrous 9-3 game, he also gained 7 League caps keeping oot their greatest living thug who only broke intae both the national and League sides when Pat left Parkheid.
Paddy was a fully committed player, he showed up for every game, not dirty but hard, more in the wee ten thirty/Bobby Murdoch mold as opposed tae Davie Hay and Brogie.
In fact there’s an iconic picture of Bobby glaring at sir furious after he had put the heid on Big Billy, if that had been Brogie, who was standing close by, he would have gubbed him similar tae what he did tae the wee Fife ned Johnston when he ruffled big Cairney’s heid after his og and in the same game the Govan ned doddy who followed through on big Evan injuring him in the SC quarters when a Davie Hay rocket with 5 minutes tae go won the game for us.
After club captain Bertie Peacock’s free transfer 3 players were in line for the honour, vice captain Dunky MacKay, Big Billy and Paddy. Billy was deemed too young and Paddy, who IMHO should have got it, was in the bad books following a sending off playing for the national side.
Pat for some inane reason was suspended by the scottish freemason association, Sir Bob was president at the time, for the first two games of the season following this sending off.
Celtic extended this suspension to four weeks without pay following a 5-a-side tournament at Brockville in July when both he and Mike Jackson were both ordered off.
Those of us that can recall this we had a strong side including Pat, the President, Dunky Mackay, Mike Jackson and Big Billy as backie in goal.
Falkirk had a black north player called lowry, who had made it known he favoured a side over in Govan and set out starting fights with the Celts which pleased the huns with no bus fares.
Eventually Paddy had enough and gubbed him so was sent off, the crowd were out of control now and Billy complained about objects being thrown at him, shades of Montevideo, Mike Jackson then got involved with the same player and they were both ordered off. There was a photie of our lhads in the dugout dodging missiles.
Result all 3 players were invited tae Park Gardens where they were fined; however, Pat’s was more than double the other 2.
As it was he was now replacing wee ten thirty, now departed to Brum for being too hot headed, as being unmanageable.
Interestingly it is now no secret that Jock gave one important condition to Bob that if he came back wee ten thirty should be there.
What may NOT be known is that in 1976 when Jock came back from his injuries received in a MVA and the Iron Mhan was moved on Jock sought Pat for the assistant manager position.
He told us that he had been up in Desmond White’s office in Renfrew Street and the deal was almost done when a former Celt, and I use that term lightly as he only played 11 games in 2 years for us, scuppered the deal, he still don’t know why and we were left with Davie McParland.
2 years later along with Billy and wee ten thirty he was on the shortlist for Jock’s position.
Pat knew Bob didnae fancy him and it all came tae a head on January 1, 1963, a game that this wee schoolboy jooked up fae the Bonnie Banks tae see, in the pretense of visiting a pals house, with my scarf wrapped around my waist.
We all know how Pat and Sean, who actually liked each other, argued in the dressing room about tactics at the half, we were only one down at the time.
Sir Bob sitting in the dressing room, WTF, was a bit urinated off at a player arguing with an assistant manager which he kept up after the game his colleagues got it tae, so the following Saturday Pat was dropped for the game up at the Pen where ironically this hot and cold Celtic side won 5-1.
That was the last game until a cup tie, ironically at Brockville, due tae the “winter 1963 it felt like the world would freeze” at the end of the month which we won 2-0 setting out on a cup run that would take us to the final.
Pat had sat out that game tae so asked for a transfer as he felt Sir Bob would be happy tae see the back of him and he would never play for Celtic again and so on February 6 he signed for Sir Matt, another who was desperate tae play for us during WWII but we had a policy of not playing guest players.
So when I said he engineered his move tae OT that seemed tae be the feeling inside the Parkheid dressing room, however, even if he did, who could blame him, he at times carried the side and yet was treated shabbily by the President of the SFA.
He has often said in interviews that he’s still a Celtic supporter but the way he was treated it’s understandable if he still holds a grudge against us; it is the Scottish/Irish way.
He’s still be one of my all time favourite Celts.

Yes I get what you’re saying, as I said earlier, Neil would’ve probably viewed Celtic PLC as a, charlatan’s gravy train, and at that point he’s maybe thinking if the supporter’s have obviously moved on, then he should publicly curry favor with that state of affairs. Remember in 2016, Neil applied for the job as Celtic manager again, and was unsuccessful, which might tie in with the idea that, Neil, was rebuffed with the promise of getting ‘his’ old job back, once Brandan had ‘fudged’ the PLC having to handle, are Sevco-RFC the same club question’s, and Brendan would make the fan’s “Look over there” allowing the PLC off of the, tricky questioning hook. Then the PLC would pull the rug from Brendan, Neil would walk out of Hibs, and get ‘his’ old job back.

What I think is interesting (or possibly not in the least interesting as I like to hedge my bets), is that I hear Arsenal’s play has been described as ‘a treat’.
The interesting part of that is of course that ‘A treat’ is an anagram of Arteta.
So on that basis, we don’t need a new manager at Celtic, we just need Neil to change his surname to “Iranewton”…..which of course is an anagram of ‘Ten in a row”….

There is a great picture, re the rammy at Brockville, republished not so long ago in the Falkirk Herald, but for the love of me I cannot pin point. Maybe Saint Stivs could track it down, but anyways there is no mistaking the anger in the faces of the Celtic players that day, Pat and Billy included. You wouldn’t want to have got in their way and that is for sure, all good Celtic men.

My own personal feelings are probably very close to what you are saying.
But yes I kind of have had to ‘move on’.
Easy for me of course.In my real life [I live in whitby england] I only know of a couple of ‘sevco’ fans and rarely see them .
But if I lived in scotland I probably too would be burying myself in the deid club stuff to at the moment as some kind of local anesthetic to the pain that appears to be coming our way this season.
I have found in life that it is always better to prepare yourself mentally to possible oncoming tragedy and terrible situations rather than let it hit you cold.
I have thought long and hard about my feelings to that manky mob winning the league this year and stopping the ten and my conclusion is that we have to make sure we are in the best possible shape to dominate them once again starting the next season.
Therefore I really do not want any kind of short term appointment if things get to a point that the board have no faith in the current manager.
I just hope and pray that they are searching far and wide right now for the manager who will be leading us out at the start of next season and beyond.
But hey its all hypothetical …Maybe Neil will find his mojo and his best team very soon and we will be flying by christmas.

The Brockville Fives was part of an extravaganza arranged under the auspices of Falkirk FC and Falkirk Victoria (I know, I Know…) Harriers so was probably, like most of these, an Athletics’ meet with Fives thrown in to attract spectators, 5000 showed up and not many Tims I would hazard.

Was today’s article written by Paul 67 or Celtic supporting Paul Heaton, the general jist was carry on regardless, humming the tune whilst reading it.
This is a huge mistake imo, I wanted at least a European level coach sourced after Ferencvaros after the Sevco debacle I wanted change in management and coaching staff, we are now in a worse position. We are taking the bigger gamble now despite the evidence.
As long as Paul 67 who thought we’d beat Sevco and if that’s Paul67 view then it’s also the CEO view and all.the usual posters own it then fair enough.
Please spare me their was nothing we could have done view, yes their was. Several posters were highlighting that view, the same ones who were highlighting the view that the first decent teams we played would cause us problems, we were right then, time will tell if we are right again.
The prediction I will make is once the horse has bolted, we will first get the their was nothing we could do excuse. The who could we have got excuse, the it was just bad luck excuse, followed by the if all else fails excuse, we will still be Tim’s in the morning, it’s not really that important anyway.
So predictable, Peter Lawell, Paul 67 and all the keep the faith brigade despite the evidence, make sure you lie in the bed you’ve made and own it, that’s all I ask, carry on regardless is a mistake, let Paul Heatons catchy tune remember where you heard it first.

*I once went tae the Glasgow Police Sports day at hades only because Derek ibbotson was running, my mother was a huge athletics fan and encouraged me and an elder family member tae go. They had the 5s on that day.
I can recall our side sitting on the touchline between games and this acquaintance of mine pointed out one of our players had a holy medal hanging out of his shirt, I believe it was the Brush..

Think the Victoria name came from the Park they used, which probably goes back a long way. And Celtic and Glasgow were very much part of that same type of promoting sports other than just football. especially Celtic. Can remember pre-match events at Celtic Park, late 60s maybe even early 70s. Guess that explained the shape of Celtic Park up until Fergus.
