Supporters Association launch at Holyrood

850

The Scottish Football Supporters’ Association (SFSA), an independent body of pan-club football fans, yesterday launched the first independent evaluation of Scottish football governance, at Holyrood.

The SFSA’s nationwide survey will assess, for the first time, supporters’ views on the current position of the game, including the performance of the game’s governing bodies in Scotland.  The research will become an annual benchmarking & reporting exercise looking at all aspects of the game.

The SFSA’s online survey has been created in partnership with Prof. Dr. Axel Faix and Dr. Joachim Lammert, two experienced German academics who have undertaken similar evaluations on a national level in Germany and on a European level.

The SFSA, whose board includes former First Minister Henry McLeish; former MP and MSP Cathy Jamieson and Maureen McGonigle, Founder of Scottish Women in Sport and first female Scottish FA Council Member, has over 67,000 members supporting clubs across Scotland.

The SFSA is Scotland’s fans’ representative in The Football Supporters Europe network (FSE), an independent, representative and democratically organised grass-roots network of football fans’ in Europe with members in currently 48 countries across the continent.

You have invited to Have Your Say by getting involved with the project here.

Most importantly, you can participate in the survey itself here.

Celtic to close Green Brigade standing section for 2 games

CELTIC are to close the ‘Green Brigade’ section of Parkhead for the next two matches. The decision, which has been taken amid serious safety concerns and after discussion with the police, follows events at the matches against Hearts in May and Linfield on Wednesday night. The club is writing to the 900 season-ticket holders affected to explain the Club’s position and next steps. During the the final game of last season against Hearts large numbers of flares were smuggled into and set off under banners within the Green Brigade section. Celtic say the the match was nearly called off due to the thick smoke drifting across the pitch and that the stadium’s fire alarm was set off. The Safety Advisory Group of Glasgow City Council, which licenses Celtic Park and comprises representatives from the Council, police, fire and rescue, the ambulance service and other statutory authorities, had an emergency meeting after the Hearts game and communicated their serious concerns to the Club, which presented a risk to the renewal of the safety certificate necessary for the operation of the stadium and the capacity of the safe standing area.

Club Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “The behaviour of fans in the Green Brigade section of the ground at the matches against Hearts and Linfield was a serious safety risk, which has left us with no choice but to take decisive action to ensure safety within the stadium. READ MORE: Uefa charge Celtic for illicit banners at Linfield game “There is no room for debate. The safety authorities and the football authorities make the rules. They also enforce the rules. If the rules are broken, Celtic will be punished again and again. There is no hiding place from these realities. Anyone who has Celtic’s interests at heart must surely recognise them and behave accordingly. “Every club which visits here says the atmosphere is incredible and that is something that we have worked very hard to support and encourage. We cannot understand why supporters who are capable of contributing so much that is positive to the club can be so reckless in doing it damage. In addition to the serious safety concerns, we face further UEFA disciplinary action. “This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but the behaviour of fans in this section is posing a direct risk to the safe operation of the stadium and is also seriously tarnishing the club’s hard-won reputation.

“Dialogue, engagement and communication with the Green Brigade have evidently failed at this time, given the behaviour experienced at these matches, and we are therefore left with no choice but to take action to ensure safety at the stadium. “We hope that the action we are taking prompts recognition by those fans of the damage being done to the Club and that we can resume meaningful engagement with them which would ensure a safe environment within that part of Celtic Park.” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s really disappointing that we are talking about stadium safety and paramilitary banners rather than our progress into the next round of Europe. “The fans have a responsibility to behave in the stadium and I would urge everyone involved to see the damage this is causing to the club. Hopefully this is a wake-up call. “The players thrive on the cauldron that the fans create at Celtic Park but there are clearly boundaries that you can’t step over. Everyone knows that pyrotechnics, unacceptable banners and ignoring stewards who are enforcing basic stadium safety measures are simply not on. I really hope that the fans take this on board. It would be a real shame if they forced the club to take more permanent action to ensure safety and protect the Club’s standing in European football, which is what we should all be aiming to promote.”

Green Brigade Ban ..sends a message..mostly to the authorities that Celtic are policing their fans. GB should suck it up and work with the Club.

I said yesterday they should be supported they provide lots of positive atmosphere . inside the ground. The radical stuff could still be a feature if they organise it outside stadium Boundary can go see it. I’m not remotely interested in any sectarian crap…but I’d likely go see their banners en route to the game. As they are usually well made amusing expressions of young rebellious minds….which if nothing else is artistically interesting.

  6. It is a great time to be a Celtic fan so why all the division. Big game against Rosenberg coming up – let’s focus on that. I’m definitely in the Neil Lennon camp based on these comments from 4 years ago about the Bobby Sands display

“There’s no place for it. It should’ve been a celebration rather than people having a grumble about something.

“When I came in here, I tried to bring the club together again. I think we’ve done that, certainly with the performances over the last three of four years, so it’s disappointing to see that some people want to bring cracks in amongst the club.”

    Aw the shame .

Lets all laugh at Sevco ……………

RANGERS have hit back at former Ibrox star Barrie McKay after he claimed he was mistreated by manager Pedro Caixinha before he quit the club to join Nottingham Forest.

The winger was reunited with former boss Mark Warburton at the City Ground earlier this month as he brought the curtain down on his Light Blues career.

Rangers decided to cash in on the 22-year-old after he turned down offers to extend his deal beyond the end of the campaign. That contract would have seen him become one of the highest paid players at the club if he had signed on the dotted line.

    Brendan Rogers sais no

There is a small group of people who go to Celtic Park who just don’t get this, and to this day still don’t nor care either, and will not be happy until Celtic park is closed down, these people I have posted above in this post who are saying NO, are NOT playing hear you know, when they say NO they mean NO and will close our stadium.

Now you can come up with all the whatabouterie you want, stamp your feet point fingers at anyone you like, those I posted above have made a decision its they’r game, they’r City, and OUR club, if you are not happy with the rules that are applied then I encourage you to find another outlet for your Ultra agendas, you’ve had many many chances to behave and stick to the behaviour code of conduct the rest of us accept, what other clubs do or how other clubs behave has nothing what so ever to do with CFC we have a stand alone policy.

We (CFC) have a manager who is respected and known world wide, a club and stadium atmosphere recognised all over the world and the Ultras know that and like parasites know this and live off it that is they’r end game, so won’t like the word parasites but unfortunately when it comes right down to it, that’s all they are, if they cared anything about my club, then I wouldent be posting this, bottom line is they don’t, it’s all about them.

Let me rephrase the last part for you.

Why ,in your opinion has Peter Lawwell been silent on the issues I mentioned.

Did he comment on the objects thrown at Leigh Griffiths at Linfield?

Personally I doubt the Ultras will go anywhere near What Brenda Rogers said, they will just do the obvious same old chestnut have a pop at PL and the board, Brendan has backed the CFC board, but they will separate that for sure, actually keep any eye on that one, I’d like to see how they are going to play this one, should be very interesting.

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Brendan Rodgers should stick to football matters and not get dragged into the politics.

  22. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

after all like the board they are only employees or servants to the club

  23. Did he say anything in condemnation about the fact that in 2017 we couldn’t let our supporters go to a football match because our very existence there might provoke the intellectually bankrupt supporters of Linfield to attack us?
