Sustainable, successful, team development

799

There are several parts of Tuesday’s performance which could be improved upon, parts which will be exposed by the rigours of Champions League football, but we looked like an experienced European team, one who could go away from home, roll with the early season uncertainties, but still have enough in the tank to win comfortably.

For the last couple of years we have watched a team mature while Neil Lennon has continued to add young blood to the squad.  Fraser Forster has become an adept shot-stopper, puncher and kicker-with-both-feet.  Joe Ledley has developed into a disciplined anchor in midfield while Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama and Beram Kayal have progressed even quicker than I am sure the manager expected.

Last season’s Europa League campaign contributed significantly to the development.  The team seemed to grow a few inches during the home win over Rennes, which propelled them onto the league title.  A Champions League examination will present no fears but will expedite progress.

We could be on the verge of the first sustainable, successful, team development plan in 40 years, one that delivers titles, significant progress in Europe and lives within its means.

Currently 2-1 with 20 to go. I think it was 0-0 at HT as well.

I counted three shooder passes tonight, there’s no enough of that on football. Pique the centre half with one in attack was almost Muldiniesque.

Come on Lawwell get the shooder passing happening or get oot if yer no interested…

Shooder passing would be ok if the Brazen Serpent refs were comfortable being Confidential Secretary’s.

I wonder how many oaths have been taken by the referees currently officiating Scottish Football. ;)

We should CHERISH what we have. And Cherish it fully because it is something Exceptional, something that stands out in these very dark days.

If the Lord permits, Celtic will play football the way the Lord would want it to be played and that will be even better than the very charitable Barcelona team that took over a decade to come to Full fruition. They then commercialised, when they shouldn’t have but I guess they were forced into it…. hmmmmm

  5. Watched the 2nd half of Hearts v Liverpool Reserves this morning.

The Jambos lost 0-1 but still, at the end of the game, the commentator said “Hearts have done Edinburgh proud”.

    What?

They were beaten at home to an EPL second string side. Has it now got to the stage where if a Scottish club – apart from Celtic of course – don’t get hammered 0-5 at home in Europe, then they have done the city/country proud?

  7. Good morning CQNers,

The DR has plumbed new depths in ineptitude this morning. They have a gallery of their opinion of the world’s greatest goalkeepers and their picture of the magnificent Pat Jennings carries a caption that calls him ‘English keeper’ !!!!!!!

Its my guess they intended to say he played 1000 first class matches in England but with their history of lazy journalism they could equally have though he was English.

I also watched the Hearts game and they played very well. I fear we might drop points away again this season to them.

Reigning Scottish champions Celtic are close to signing a one-year loan agreement for Japan international Yuki Otsu, Sponichi reported on Friday.

The 22-year-old spent most of last season on the outside looking in at Borussia Monchengladbach, making just three appearances. But he emerged rapidly in the 2012 London Olympics, scoring three goals – including the shocking game-winner against Spain – on the way to Japan’s unexpected fourth-place finish.

I see Lance Armstrong may be stripped of seven tour wins and banned for life from cycling. If its good enough to take these very prestigious titles from a global sports icon, in fact one of the all time greats (pending drug allegations outcome)

  11. Mrs Starry (from the Land of Naka) reliably informs me that Young Otsu played for her nephews team in Japan before leaving for Germany, he is something of a hero to the Young Team at Kashiwa Reysol…

and are in negotiatons,” a source close to Otsu told Sponichi. “Once we settle on the terms the transfer should go through.”

  14. Morning from a pleasant slightly chilled Chilterns…

Thought the Hearts did well yesterday, took the game to Liverpool and deserved a draw.

Must agree though, it’s come to something when Scotland’s second largest top flight Club have a plucky defeat @ home to an English second string.

No chance of a reverse at Anfield.

Fringe players this weekend, let’s she what the young bhoys bring.

  15. Morning all!

According to Joe McHugh over at videocelts, Yuki Otsu will not be joining Celtic any time soon.

    HH!!

  16. @LawTop20: Foul decision by Armstrong and his advisers. This case is worth fighting for. Guess you have to know how to do it…

    =========================================

It will all be OK because Bradley Wiggins is going to buy Lance Armstrong and his history and become the most decorated cyclist ever.

That’s how it works is it not?

Interesting that Lance Armstrong has been doggedly pursued over this.

On this general topic, I recall reading a snippet on the BBC web site during the olympics, that all athlete urine samples are kept for a period (8 years?) and are subject to re-tests that will lead to retrospective stripping and reallocation of medals if doping is discovered.

Surely a wee lesson in there regarding governance and integrity for the SFA and SPL?
