Sustainable, successful, team development

799

There are several parts of Tuesday’s performance which could be improved upon, parts which will be exposed by the rigours of Champions League football, but we looked like an experienced European team, one who could go away from home, roll with the early season uncertainties, but still have enough in the tank to win comfortably.

For the last couple of years we have watched a team mature while Neil Lennon has continued to add young blood to the squad.  Fraser Forster has become an adept shot-stopper, puncher and kicker-with-both-feet.  Joe Ledley has developed into a disciplined anchor in midfield while Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama and Beram Kayal have progressed even quicker than I am sure the manager expected.

Last season’s Europa League campaign contributed significantly to the development.  The team seemed to grow a few inches during the home win over Rennes, which propelled them onto the league title.  A Champions League examination will present no fears but will expedite progress.

We could be on the verge of the first sustainable, successful, team development plan in 40 years, one that delivers titles, significant progress in Europe and lives within its means.

Thanks to all who replied to my post hoping that Hearts would win tonight. I can see that I’m in a minority with esteed Coatbrigand Estadio (oh feck L/pool just scored).

Ernie take a chill pill I Celtic are playing in the SPL. It will remain a joke league and a corrupt one as long as we keep doing it down and supporting teans playing against SPL teams. Of course it’s traditional to support the opposition against Sevco 5088 and their predecessors. :-)

  2. Did that ITV commentator just say all the Scottish clubs were out of Europe in August last year?

    Good evening all.

During the summer (what summer?) when most of the Scottish clubs voted the correct way with regard to Them Who Must Not Be Named I promised myself to give them all a clean slate, particularly when it comes to European games.

  4. at least Romanov had the cohones to tell it like it is regarding der Hun. Not watching the game but they have obviously given Liverpool some cause for thought – and the English media – they’re still horrible, but.

  10. The young guy Sterling has torn McGowan a new one.

He,s struggled without a ref allowing him to play rugby on a football field.

Liverpool are very ordinary but their organisation is far superior.

Hearts run around a lot with little shape or purpose.

The coaching and refereeing in the SPL needs to dramatically improve for our games survival.

The whole governing body needs modern thinkers rather than the hun protectorate we have now

  11. Bilbao pumping HJK equals Celtic beating HJK is akin to getting an extra time one goal victory away to some forth division mob in MSM speak.

I thought Hearts played well considering the age and experience of their team.

They deserved a no score draw for their efforts, and may be could have sneaked one at the end.

I think they will do well at Liverpool, but will loose by a couple down there.

I liked the young Liverpool winger. He’ll be a great player.
