Sustainable, successful, team development

799

There are several parts of Tuesday’s performance which could be improved upon, parts which will be exposed by the rigours of Champions League football, but we looked like an experienced European team, one who could go away from home, roll with the early season uncertainties, but still have enough in the tank to win comfortably.

For the last couple of years we have watched a team mature while Neil Lennon has continued to add young blood to the squad.  Fraser Forster has become an adept shot-stopper, puncher and kicker-with-both-feet.  Joe Ledley has developed into a disciplined anchor in midfield while Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama and Beram Kayal have progressed even quicker than I am sure the manager expected.

Last season’s Europa League campaign contributed significantly to the development.  The team seemed to grow a few inches during the home win over Rennes, which propelled them onto the league title.  A Champions League examination will present no fears but will expedite progress.

We could be on the verge of the first sustainable, successful, team development plan in 40 years, one that delivers titles, significant progress in Europe and lives within its means.

I’m with you on that but not specifically because of Brendan Rogers. More to do with some lunatic desire to see Scottish Football regaining a bit of kudos and respect. It has to start somewhere and after their showing and being shown up versus Spurs last year, it would be a little bit of karma for Hearts to have a good competitive performance.

There were I think three calls tonight which made it clear that the huns are dead and their history is gone.

I’m not aware of any other media outlet that’s even suggested that.

  8. Don’t agree with supporting Hearts tonight. I could never support that bunch in anything.

  9. From FF:

At the last nights general meeting Charles Green declared himself Grand Suzerain of the Orange Swarm- he wore the majestical Kipper tie worn by such notables as Moses McNeil and Jimmy Krankie. He flashed a scalp list, though to contain all the enemies of the club, before the eyes of all those in attendance and told them he would introduce a new special ritual before every home game in South Govan. Mr Green gave all those accounted for a prelude of what to expect on Saturday: someone later said that he had smoked a considerable amount of Bombers stolen paki black through a bong manufactured from a modified hairdressing salon hood blower. Its thought he may have drank a pint of Leggo’s Leverndale Schnapps that was specifically prescribed by Leggo’s head-doctor- as well as sniffing volcano powder thought to be crushed up nazi vitamins. He went way off the reservation by daubing his face with war paint, and twirled his snake belt around his head like it was a electric tangle of conga eels.

‘I will arrive at the center circle on the back of a black goat, drink the dragons soup from Bill Struth’s sacred brogue…I am your Blue Baal, your Scorpion King, your bigtime saviour the Alchemist of illusion…bring me the eyelids of Leggo, I will be cloaked in the shadow of Jabba and masked in the dog face of Chico…I will belch forth the halitosis of hell…bewilder you with the infinite deception of dazzling gossip and surround you with the architecture of mirrors…pump you full of the sleepers smoke as I do a victory jig around the mauve totem, like a giant penis, made from Walter Smiths cardigans…all those who were there said it was lovely evening after the tea and empire biscuits were given out and commented on what a nice stand up guy Mr Green is.

Like most EPL clubs Brendan Rodgers Liverpool don’t give two figs about the EL. The most important game of the week is Man City at Anfield on Sunday. He is playing a reserve team because he can afford to

If it was up to me, i would do exactly the same for our game at ICT on Saturday as Wednesday is far more important

Half decent showing by the jam tarts out there, good pressing game, but lacking just a wee bit composure when it is really needed. Adam is the key man for Liverpool, good movement and good passing. Will be interesting if Hearts could get a goal, Templeton showing up well, could be the man to get it.

  19. TSD @ 19.51,

Noticed you had a spat with our female comrade earlier today. Didn’t pay much attention to how it went, but noticed that she concluded with an obscenity. That said it all: when you run out of argument but not of hatred/spite….

  20. Well from a Celtic standpoint it would be beneficial for Hearts AND Motherwell to progress/do well.

I expect to win the league and I would rather that the team and fans (and who knows even the neutral media) to recognise the achievement in overcoming teams that have a certain level of recognition in their own right.

It would add further fuel to the ever mounting pile of ridicule that is still emanating from those who still see disaster being visited on the Scottish game purely because of the demise of Rangers.

It would add to the Scottish co-efficient and see better seeding for us.

it would keep interest across the board and maintain a level of interest in the games with attenances enhanicing the fnancial position of the clubs thus helping to keep the door bolted against any attempt by the authorities to leverage Scotland’s latest senior club back into the top flight.

Finally it would allow a general strengthening of the competition possibly paving the way for a home and away competition rather than the 2 home 2 away mess that we now have, and would make it far more difficult even in three years time for ANY promoted club to assume that they will walk back into a top of the table place.

I accept that their fans in significant numbers are drain blockage, but since I have ebvery confidence in beating them I would rather that it was done from them living in a cloud of over-confidence.

I know there are a lot of reasons against but there we are.

  24. Good evening all.

During the summer (what summer?) when most of the Scottish clubs voted the correct way with regard to Them Who Must Not Be Named I promised myself to give them all a clean slate, particularly when it comes to European games.

Therefore I do hope that Hearts and Motherwell ( I see they’re one down) both do well tonight. Having 3 Scottish teams in the league stages of the 2 competitions would draw even more attention to the absence of Them.

    That’s all.
