Tactically aware athlete needed

2217

I don’t know anything about Stefan Johansen, who is one of several central midfield players Celtic are tracking, but I’m pleased we’re scouting for this area.  There’s no question we are missing a penalty box predator but you could make a case that the sense of calm and control exerted by Victor Wanyama in the middle of the park is a more telling absence.

Nir Biton has all the potential to get there eventually but it’s going to take him time.  He reminds me of Ki, who a couple of seasons ago was fifth choice central mid for Celtic, behind Brown, Wanyama, Ledley and Kayal.  This season I’ve watched him collect and distribute, close space and bring shape to a struggling Sunderland team.

I’ve also watched a bit of Barry Robson since his return to Aberdeen.  Despite his advancing years he remains one of the most intelligent footballers in the game.  His arrival in the Celtic midfield six years ago changed Celtic into a winning team.    You don’t need Pele for this role, just a tactically aware athlete.

How many accountants does it take to tell you that losing circa £1m per month is not a good idea?  Lots, apparently.

Decided to attend the Albion Rovers v Montrose match today.

Really enjoyed it… standing on the terracing … the banter … loads of young fans.

Their ” ultras ” … about 20 pubescents … singing ” we hate Hamilton accies .. we hate motherwell too.. we hate airdrieonians … but rovers we love you”

Bumped into a CQNr at half time.. lets just call him Roy of the Rovers

We leaned against the barrier and said we would both be back again

Oh… and .. one nil to the rovers :)

  5. ManUre v Swansea

The Welsh team coping well with the high pressing game from Manu’s forwards.

The simple ability to pass a ball to one of your own seems to defeat this tactic! (The spare man making himself available helps a lot!!)

Then in the midfield they look very comfortable.

A reflection of their manager’s way of playing maybe?

As a game it’s very insipid.

    Roll on A.Madrid v Barca!

I thought Aiden improved his pace when if I remember right WGS brought in a French sprint coach. The difference Aiden showed over 10 yards was noticeable

    Anyway good luck to him.

Think it was 720 at the game today. Almost double ave january attendence .

The idea of paying what you can afford seemed to work

Fantastic seems that Albion Rovers got a bumper crowd today with their ‘Pay what ye can’ initiative.

A fellow Tim Paul Moran is reporting that he couldnae get a seat. Some folk estimating 3-4,000 up substantially on the 400 average gate.

  14. Sevco have hired some major accountants

to help them with the majic trick.

I can help them out for free.

When Sevco announced that they were paying out

£1 million a month and had £7 million in the bank

that would mean after 7 months

they would run out of money and be facing administration.

    Aiden McGeady lacks pace eh?

    Tripe.

That Bhoy could play football til he is at least forty years of age, because he has the quickest feet in the game.

    63 international caps and counting.

    Quality.

Delighted for Everton, but I wish he was back at the big club.

How Celtic missed out on signing King Coleman and James McCarthy still annoys me to this day.

  16. Sevco accountants say we need to cut the wage bill

and are under the impression that the manager is working for nothing.

Eh no he’s taking £850,000 in wages.

At which point the accountants should have said

    We are out of here.

  17. 16 roads - Wee Oscar the Celtic warrior. on

Three times in my life I have been to that Anfield place…the only good thing about it was they sold beer in the ground…hence the reason why I went to the bar at half time and never once went back to my seat for the second half.

  18. Woo Hoo

Just had a job offer from Sevco.. They want me to go in and make savings of £50,000 a year… Good wages they’ve offered me £100,000

  19. Kitalba

Scrolling back and noticed post re Psycho Huns (which given right circumstances there would be very few omissions from) surely big Duncan Disorderly Fergyhun was worthy of a first place. Also went to Aberdeen away with St Mary’s Coatbridge and unless senile dementia kickin in could have sworn that club met and left from Wullie Hendersons bar. Or maybe somebody was on the wind up.

    Is mo na cumann e

  20. Sevco accountants have said the wage bill will

    need to be cut.

Sevco players say ‘Hold on a minute we have contracts’.

    Does this sound familiar ?

Unlikely you can be looking at a century of caps for your country yet still be useless.

I wonder if he would have achieved so many caps had he played for Scotland, bearing in mind we’re pish and ROI sometimes urnae.

  26. Thanks for the info mate.

I remember Paul commenting,on the night of the interview, that BRTH found the conversation with Nevin ‘astonishing’…….If BRTH uses such a word then it should grab anyone’s attention.

    Astonishing in what way ?

Was the rat speaking “off the record” and did he honestly speak his mind about the corruption, bigotry and cheating by Sevco and the SFA.
