Taking a pop at Celtic, vulnerable Heynckes

I’m not going to tell you it’s right to post tickets by Special Delivery, or pass on a £7 charge, because I know many would, if given the choice, opt to take their chance on regular mail, with a lower (or zero) charge. The value of Special Delivery only really kicks in when your tickets have yet to arrive but all your pals have theirs. Which isn’t going to happen to all of us.

What I will draw to your attention is the gleeful rush to print an inaccurate story that the club gave fans no option to collect tickets in person, thereby forcing them to pay a Special Delivery charge, running in one of the country’s newspapers of Record yesterday.

There are probably upwards of 100 decisions made by Celtic each week. While clearly the club get most right, they absolutely get some wrong and others remain open to debate. If you are going to have a pop, at least pick on something they’ve actually done, not something you are fantasising about.

Or seriously upgrade your fantasies. Having to write, “Earlier we wrongly reported there was no option to collect from Celtic Park but you can in fact pick up from the club ticket office” is just demeaning.

Jupp Heynckes (72) looks like getting the job of preparing Bayern Munich for the Celtic doubleheader. There’s little Heynckes doesn’t know about the game, but despite his successes, he’s always struck me as an unlucky manager.

He was the man who ended Real Madrid’s wilderness decades when in 1998 he won their first Champions League since 1966, but was sacked days later. He exacted revenge over Real when at Bayern in the 2012 Champions League semi-final, but blew the final in the Allianze on penalties to Chelsea.

That defeat did for him, although Bayern took most of the following season before announcing he would be replaced by Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2013. Heynckes duly destroyed Guardiola’s Barcelona on the way to winning another Champions League, before the door hit him on his bum on the way out.  Despite his glories, a vulnerability surrounds him.  This is a Champions League winner you can look in the eye and sack, apparently.

I hope that vulnerability remains for a few weeks yet.

Kevin Graham is back with a new CQN Podcast from Saturday. He talks to supporters on the bus on the way to Parkhead, interviews John Paul Taylor outside the ground and captures the atmosphere and action inside the ground before getting some more supporters’ views on the bus home after an eventful afternoon at Celtic Park.

Apologies for a few sweary words in this podcast near the end.

Regards Premier Sports, had the same problem. Found an email address on their home page right at the bottom, and it was sorted fairly quickly. I am on mobile at the moment, if you can’t find it, I’ll post the address later this evening as I am off to look after the granddaughter for the afternoon.

Interesting Bayern going back to Heynckes. I thought that was when they were at their best. More dynamic, higher intensity.

I think they have lost their identity a bit under their two most recent managers. Losing some of their home-grown players probably hasn’t helped either. Rodriguez was a strange signing for me.

Anyway, still a top quality team on their day and maybe even more dangerous now.

Cheers mate. Just make sure you don’t miss a Scotland goal due to the search!

It’s already cost me £30 to watch Celtic ship 5 goals. Thank fupp we still qualified!

    Bayern Munich –

    For what it’s worth —

” Ancelotti had big problems with 5 players at Bayern -Hummels / Muller / Ribery / Robben and Boateng .Me / Me / Me players .. Laid back Carlo didn’t slap them down he chose not to pander to their egos .. He has paid the price of that choice .”

  9. Billy Bhoy,

Certainly in Ireland if you are registered for online Banking, you can just log in and cancel a specific Direct Debit.

I have little doubt that it’s the same in Scotland.

Over the years I have had trouble in cancelling various services.

Now if I’m cancelling or changing providers after serving them the required notice, I also log on & cancel the Direct Debit, if they are prone to ignoring your initial request the cancelled Direct Debit usually grabs their attention.

    Afternoon Bhoys and Ghirls

Just spent over 2 hours of my morning at the CP ticket office to get tickets for the semi-final. At least it wasn’t raining, but despite 8 positions/tellers been on ( at least when I got inside), it was a very slow morning. Queue was nearly as bad outside as I left and that was just before 12pm and any lunchtime rush!

  14. Someone put me right.Did I not read that Robben got injured the same game as Ribbery, and had to go off?.am I imagining this,or did some useless hack report this in error.Sorry, not error, usual incompetence.

The last time I watched Bayern, against Wolfsburg,Alaba was not playing.I rate him as one of the best full backs in the world.Watched him play for the Swiss in midfield, and he was the best player on the park.A fantastic player, who sadly for us,attacks down the left. Not our strongest position.I hope BR is a bit more defensive minded and plays 4 in the midfield, with maybe Scotty and Griff up front.Bayern still world class.Or they can be.

A few guys who sit around me used to swear that James Forrest must have been Neil Lennon’s love child. :)

  16. Can Celtic use the Pena ‘Verdict’ to make a case for scrapping the referees set up? It is the most blatant piece of Bias I have seen.. it is indefensible which is why they did not put it forward to a panel..

  17. if you wear blue , in the last 18 months you can head-butt fully punch and deliberately elbow opponents. All on video and get off. but woe be tide you if a player alleges yousaid something to him.. No evidence But on the basis the player accused you you are gulity

  18. A ball was put into the net using a forearm and claiming a goal, no booking given, there was also an ankle breaker similar to the tackle on a Celtic player at Dens Park which went unpunished in the same game, Scottish referees are at it big time again, and we know why, Sevco must be seen as a credible team with a chance of success, not to mention the need for money, the biggest corrupter going.

  19. Cork Celt

You are of course correct re direct debits. Unfortunately, the crafty blighters have it on recurring debit, which you cannot cancel yourself.

  21. You can only ‘collect’ the tickets if you buy them at the TO there and then. You can’t order and collect them another time. So if you can’t make it to the TO to buy them you need to pay £7 plus a £1.50 charge.

I sent an email to Celtic in the summer asking why the National stadium doesn’t have a ticket reprint facility. I was told this was in the process of being dealt with.

For the avoidance of doubt. When you attend a match at Hampden they take the stub from your ticket and click you in. In 2017 they still do not have an electronic system. Not good enough.
