Tanks gather at Ibrox but watch the one from Inverness

Football debts and non-football debts are often dealt with differently by club administrators.  Un-secured creditors generally have to wait in line but a football club has a different mechanism to regain lost income.

Rangers FC PLC (in administration), as the excellent Paul McConville informed us the club should legally now be referred to, owe money to Dundee United for the recent Scottish Cup game, Hearts for the transfer of Lee Wallace and Dunfermline for tickets for last Saturday’s league game.  All three clubs have recourse to the SPL and SFA if the administrator hangs them out to dry, but they will not be the most pressing concerns for Rangers FC PLC (in administration).

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are due money for tickets provided to Rangers FC PLC (in administration) for their match at Inverness later this month.  Rangers FC PLC (in administration) have sold tickets for this match and will, presumably, continue to do so, however, the administrator will have to decide on a course of action:

Pay Inverness or withhold the money for other purposes and ask the club to admit their fans without payment.

In this instance, other purposes would be: payment of their administration fees, payment of other creditors, payment of footballers to face Inverness.

How Rangers FC PLC (in administration) deal with Inverness will be an early concern, but our old friends Rapid Vienna, who are due the final payment of the Nikica Jelavic transfer, will complicate matters further down the line.  Their recourse will be to Fifa, who ensure transfer fees are paid, without reference to administration or even a prepack liquidation.

The concerns Celtic Quick News first raised in October about a prepack fait accompli being offered to the SPL now feels less threatening.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

  1. James Forrest – I heard that a horde of zombies got into the Scottish Parliament.

Thankfully, no MSP’s were hurt, as the zombies only wanted to eat brains.

Personally, I’m waiting for wee Hunza “The word hun is sectarian” Yousef to weigh in on this debate with his customary wit and wisdom. (thumbsup)

  2. Rapid Vienna seem to be unaware that the balance for Jelevic has been taken over by Everton.

They were reported as contacting a UK legal firm to try and get their money from ranglers.

I feel that football supporters all over Scotland should make there views known about the poundland teams situation starting with your own clubs chairman your MP your MSP your local newspaper. As it stands the orcs think they will be back in the SPL with all there debts cleared and a fresh start this would be the biggest kick in the un- mentionables for every true honest football fan where there club has been handicapped for years because they played by the rules.Dont let the peepil walk all over you they may even qualify for the Champions league play offs we dont need them let it be known.H.H.

I seem to remember Gretna being kept going by a loan from the SPL, an advance on TV money due to them at the end of the season. With the SPL be hanging on to that to cover football debts to Hearts, Utd and ICT?

  8. Comedy on the BBC. Not enough money to put petrol on the generator to inflate a banner. Comedy gold! Cousin cannot sign, clubs in admin cannot sign players. Pity, would loved to have watch him trip all over himself.

Good to read other SPL teams won’t be supporting Newco United (at the moment) on automatic re-entry in to the top tier.IMO it won’t be Division 3 but into SPL 2 after re-construction.Probably as good as we will get.

  11. Bryce Curdy, cheers.

Token Tim, the adminsitrators first have to keep the club going long enough to get to the Inverness game. If they do, Inverness have to decide whether or not to admit fans without payment or insist on payment before opening the stand.

Lot of things to happen before then, though.

    A Need for Unity

I have come to realise that I am going to be bitterly disappointed if this all ends up with the status quo in the SPL. On so many levels it will seem grossly unfair, and a great opportunity for Scottish football to move forward into an exciting, if uncertain, future without Rangers and their baggage, will be lost. Unfortunately, it’s clear that the media machine, politicians and the SPL big wigs don’t see it the same as we do, and seem to be mobilising, together, to shout the Rangers cause and prevent any alternative view being heard.

The word has to be spread to all outposts of Scottish football, and, despite being an incredible and popular blog, there will be far too few people reading this while everyone else is being blasted with the establishment line of ‘Scottish football needs Rangers’.

I have read suggestions from posters to boycott Ibrox, an excellent idea providing there is a blanket boycott, and other suggestions to boycott all SPL home games against them too. With the best will in the world no boycott, even by Celtic fans, will be complete as we all love to watch our team and many just won’t be able to stay away. Home team boycotts will have the obvious effect of denying our own clubs desperately needed income. Add to that the fact that unscrupulous sports hacks will write that the low attendances show ‘just how much Rangers are needed’ while avoiding comment that it is, in fact, a display of displeasure towards those who are trying to secure Rangers a safe passage.

I feel a much more effective measure would be one that shows unity between fans of all the clubs outside of Rangers, and, as importantly, one that cannot be fobbed off as being a display of Celtic fan’s hatred of Rangers. I have to admit, I’ve been more than a little pleased, impressed and surprised by the way this predominantly Celtic fan’s blog has accepted myself, a Hearts fan, and other clubs supporters, as having worthwhile things to say. If it had been populated by the kind of ‘Rangers hating Celtic fans’ the media would have us believe then that would not have been the case.

I have a suggestion for an action that could be taken to show this unity and display the feelings of supporters of all clubs, but one I must apologise for, as I will not be in a position to help set up nor take part in it as I am, regrettably, exiled too far from my beloved Hearts, have no connection to any supporters club and don’t have a clue how to go about organising demonstrations. Fortunately there are those who seem able to organise such things amazingly quickly and I hope someone might take up this idea, should there be enough support for it shown on here. My idea:-

Organise supporters clubs of all SPL teams to arrange for banners and chants that clearly display our feelings that Rangers should be given no easy ride back into the SPL should they be forced into liquidation. These banners and chants shouldn’t display any sign of our own clubs ie not say ‘Hearts say Rangers out’ but rather ‘Scottish Football doesn’t need Rangers’, and similarly with any chants, no mention of any club other than Rangers. There should be no mention of hatred of Rangers, no mention of the ‘H’ word, and no mention of their bigotry. Chants should be simple so that their words are clear on tv and radio and can be sung, in unison, by supporters of both teams. There should be no bad language, so that the media have no excuse for not showing banners or blanking out chants. On match days old rivalries should be forgotten and, instead of groups of supporters clashing before and after games there should be handshakes and good humour shown. Could you just imagine a scenario where we could say to all who will listen, ‘Look, see what could happen to Scottish football if there’s no Rangers!’

Visits between rival supporters clubs could be arranged to discuss action and to gauge each other’s feelings, so much better if a friendly journalist could be invited along. In short, unity must be shown, because the other side will use everything they can to suggest it’s all a Celtic conspiracy. It should also be made clear that we believe Rangers cheated and that this should be investigated by the SFA and SPL especially, but the question should also be asked by everyone who thinks they have a right to question HMRC’s actions too.

Should those who read this think it’s a good idea please give it a thumbs up and, and if the proportion of ups is significantly greater than downs, I’ll post it again later so others can read and give it consideration. I’d be pleased, however, if only some of my ideas are considered worthy but will stick by my contention that Unity and the absence of any excuse to make things appear ‘Celtic fans driven’ are vital if we who love this blog are to see justice done.
