I know there’s been widespread criticism of many in the media for not confronting former Rangers EBT beneficiaries, now working alongside ‘proper’ journalists, for not holding ex-players to account for the enormous sums of money diverted from the tax man. I’ve spoken to a few journos who have tried to make headway on this story but been denied comment, access, or even contact details from colleagues.
The defensive line on not discussing this subject was originally “My EBT was legal and is a private finance matter”. This changed last year when these EBTs were found to have broken tax laws at appeal, when the line was changed to “This is a private finance matter which is subject to appeal”.
All fair enough. A consequence of the original legal status and ongoing appeals is that no one has broken ranks on those responsible for imposing this state of affairs on a football club, the tax man, or individual players.
The Daily Record today report HMRC are pursuing players for the payment of tax on EBTs. My understanding is that many (if not all) players received a letter from the “Club” indemnifying them from tax. Watch how quickly you’re told “Not this club, it was the club that died”.
You’re going to need patience for this one, it could have years to run, but I expect ranks will break eventually.
You can read subtext, can’t you? The Times report today that Celtic and the SPFL have written to the Scottish Government telling them to keep their noses out of the running of football clubs. This was after the Government responded to pressure from Celtic to repeal the Offensive Behaviour at Football’ Act by hitting them on a subject they knew would cause conflict with some fan groups.
Push on the Offensive Behaviour Act and watch what happens with the Fan on the Board issue which you enjoy so much but seemed to have lost momentum.
Politics is a dirty business. All this to deflect criticism of an ill-conceived, ineffective, bad law, instead of just repealing it, which will happen as soon as we no longer have a majority government. Anyway, Don’t Blame Me…….

Here is response to Canamalar.
Canamalar, my recollection of events is that in May 2014 there was a discussion on Twitter between
Eddie Toner @eddie_toner @Morrissey23rd @St_Sixtus @Auldheid @CooperRoy66 @PJGreenandwhite @EdgarBlamm
Eddie Toner said with regard to RES 12 “7 months on and still cloak of secrecy??”
Morrisey argued that he would like to say more but couldn’t and we should judge the requisitioners on results at the end of the day.
I chipped in with my criticism that I had raised the question of report backs or rather the lack of them (except to a few) on CQN and had been accused of “stirring it”. Morrisey queried me on this and this led me to set the record straight by downloading the e-mail exchanges I had with Canamalar asking for feedback, his response, and me posing further questions (in blue) from 11th February 2014 in my media library so as to give them a weblink. I added a short narrative at the beginning explaining my position.
In no way was the business of RES 12 posted as an article. I had simply looked for a way to give my side of the story outwith the confines of twitter.
Eddie Toner then declared that he wanted nothing more to do with RES 12 and I followed his lead.
The conversation then shifted to PMs on Twitter with Morrisey opening with “Do you live in Scotland? I’d like a chat in person” Now given that there had been a pretty heated discussion on CQN and then Twitter between us on this I didn’t take this as being a friendly opening gambit.
Auldheid too then followed me on Twitter (I had been following him for some time) to allow him to DM me. He took a different tack to Morrisey he began “Tom. It IS like a Spy story so can understand your point. It’s ridiculous that it has to be treated this way but that is not the fault of any Tims including Celtic” then after some chat suggested that he could get a question based on my concerns asked by me at a supporters forum “without reference to this conversation”. I took this as Auldheid trying to get me into the big tent and rejected it.
The following day (18th May 2014) Morrisey sent more PMs then Canalamar sent me another e-mail which was a bit of a rant, not unlike his latest one on here, but without the swearing. (I am happy to put it up as a web link on here without publishing it on my blog (same as before).
On Twitter on 18th May an attempt was made to revisit the previous days’ discussions by @moo_ted @peelglenbhoy @eddie_toner but I had no desire to keep the matter going and responded “I’ve said my last word on Resolution 12. It is history as far as I am concerned.”
That has been a promise I kept until a few days ago when, with the apparent concession by Celtic that they want nothing more to do with it and the clock ticking on it being time barred. I made a few observations. Canalamar’s revisionism has caused me to defend myself.
To summarise I was fulsome in praise of Morrisey and just as vociferous in my condemnation at the way he was treated when he (with Canamalar abroad) took the resolution concerns to Celtic Park.
What irked me was the lack of a response to my reasonable e-mail request dated February for feedback following my sight that day on CQN of Auldheid saying requisition supporters had been notified of developments by a report back.
Neither I nor the two shareholders I had ‘delivered’ had received such a report back. My concerns were heightened by sight of an e-mail purporting to come from Canamalar stating that he didn’t know of the input of BRTH until he was at Celtic park with Morrisey.
I didn’t like it one bit that a requisition process that had been sold on the basis that it would be in the name of Canalamar. I understood how when he was abroad Morrisey would deputise but it now seemed that it was being dealt with by BRTH of whom I knew little and by Auldheid who was dismissive of my posts regarding secrecy and lack of report back as being me “stirring it up” and then when I appeared dissatisfied responded with “who’s pissed in his chips”.
I didn’t sign up to support any secret process and even Auldheid in his DM
I didn’t need any lectures from Auldheid, Canalmar or anyone else about the dangers of putting ones head above the parapet in matters Rangers in Scotland. I have the T shirt from that gig.

Actually out of the four who ended up being in charge of the requisition, the two original members and the two invited by Morrisey to join, I trust the straight talking (if rather crude) Canamalar the most, but evidently that feeling is not mutual.

Oh and I was present at the very first meeting, conference calls are dead easy, I admit I had my reservations on adjournment, like many thought long grass but actually paid attention to what I was being told (after a fashion:), always like everyone else involved said if I thought it was being put out to grass I’d let everyone know in no uncertain terms.
When the 5 year limit was spotted, I thought we could use it to determine the intentions of the Plc.
Turns out, there was a better strategy in play, regardless of intentions, and it was made public, I wanted to play secret squirrel, someone with far a better understanding of political manoeuvring made a better decision and put the ball squarely with the Plc, they can dig their own grave if that’s their want.

OK I have read all of that, see what you are saying and hear what you have to say.
Can I just say, that at the early stages of Res 12 there was a request for confidentiality on a number of things.
Please don’t confuse any decision to respect or adhere to those requests as an indication of agreeing with them, not of any slight to you or any other shareholder.
At the time, there was a whole lot going on which was neither within our control or within the control of Celtic.
The whole point of my posts over the last two weeks or so has been an attempt to make it as clear as I possibly can where things stand just now and how we have gotten to this stage.
There have been numerous posts over the years I have seen and no doubt plenty that I haven’t (as I can be missing from here for up to a month at a time) which would have been worthy of condemnatory replies.
I recall being called by Morrissey who was most upset that he was being portrayed as now being welcomed into the investors lounge and being bought off by Celtic with complimentary tickets and beer etc — all of which was just sheer nonsense.
Secrecy and poor communication leads to speculation — both accurate and unfounded — whereas clear communication is the ally of transparency.
We are where we are. The resolution is where it is — which is not in the long grass but in the cusp of going to UEFA one way or another. The board are where they are — which is on board to the extent they want it to go, but less so in the way that it has to get there — for the moment. However that is an ongoing situation and may well change especially if we are persuasive enough.
Representations have been made as to why things should be done our way and we are waiting upon a respionse to that whilst preparing our own submission at the same time.
THings have changed substantially since the early days because there is a lot more clarity in the situation due to activities elsewhere which are now more finite.

When asking for sinitures for res12and asked why the need and whats the point,
I answered
A. The club will be obligated to ask questions of the SFA on behalf of shareholders without it being turned into a smsm us and them squabble ( i had no idea how low the media would go to avoid the existence of res 12 and protect those in the sfa).
B. We will eventually see if the club were complicit in anyway with the charade by their actions.
Both answers got the same great response by the shareholders i spoke to.
I am still waiting and am a patient chap.

Put it this way, cartoon steam from ears didn’t cover it, but I was dying to see how the Plc responded when asked if they were aware of the time limit.
Diffused by a much more savvy political animal, and as I calmed down with very canny advice, read on here and advised those who took the same reaction as me, it’s only hotting up.
The BRTH has a knack for finding wee chinks of light in seemingly very dark places :)

As I see it, there are 3 kinds of folk interested in the Res 12 issue:
1) Those with the smarts to figure out that there was a way to use the rules to enforce transparency, and whose stamina on the matter subsequently has been relentless.
2) Those who watch on, sometimes hopefully, sometimes anxiously, always supportively.
3) Those who wished they’d thought of it themselves, and have a deep need to be heard in order to be relevant to themselves.
