Teenage kicks

946

So how do you feel about playing a couple of teenagers, Filip Twardzik and debutant Jackson Irvine, in central midfield, but dropping a couple of SPL points?  Good, I hope.  Welcome to the world of player development.

For a decade or more Celtic produced prodigious youth teams but watched as Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts even Hamilton Accies graduated more effective adult players.  Key to this is perhaps ensuring that players are tested at a higher level at key times in their development.  In short, if you have not played regular first team football by the time you are 22 there is a good chance you will not fulfil your potential.

There is cost to this development, you’re not going to win all the time, especially when the two teenage central midfielders are surrounded by other young players: Adam Matthews, 20, Tony Watt, 18 and James Forrest, 21.  Half time substitute, Victor Wanyama, is still only 21.

I’m looking forward to seeing more teenage kicks in the coming months.

sunday mail printed a correction today, which is funny

  4. I doubt that we will win the league by 30 points plus.

We have to remember the Hun factor haves us about 15 points over the rest.

We could drop 2 points like yesterday to Hibs but if Rangera beat them the next week they were still 4 points behind. Another three times a season and 12 points.

  5. Zbyszek.

No you must have misunderstood what I said,I’m going to Barcelona.and Lisbon, missing out Moscow.

One of the best days,(well more than one day) I ‘ve had since I started posting on CQN.

  6. “[They’re] probably not the marquee signings everyone was looking for but we made it clear two or three weeks ago we wouldn’t be doing that because I like the atmosphere in the squad and I like the way they compliment each other,” Lennon told BBC Scotland .

“These guys are hungry and you’re always looking for hungry players. “Efe is a very powerful centre-half, a bit in the [Victor] Wanyama mould,” he continued. “We’ve wanted him for quite a while so we’re delighted to get that one over the line. “Miku’s a player that we’ve known about for a while but we didn’t envisage any chance of getting him. We got information three or four days ago there was a possibility we could do. We needed to get a couple of bodies in but we needed the quality.”

No link mate but the BBC report says Wallace APPEARED to use an arm to control it in the area.Think it’s safe to say you won’t see it in the highlights tomorrow night.

    Thanks Roy Croppie.

the ref allowed the huns to boot Elgin all over the park today

the fact that they get an easy ride from the MIB playing in div3 is embarrassing

even against small clubs with tiny playing budgets the favourable treatment continues

  9. If, and it’s a massive if, if it was Celtic that had done all the things that are unfolding across at the other side of the city. The cheating, non-payment of taxes, non-payment of bills to small firms and charities etc etc

    Would you still support Celtic?

the quality of the SPL seems to have fallen somewhat this season

three 0-0 draws yesterday , Hearts getting beat at home to Dundee

if we put together a decent run of results we could be out of sight

I refer you the article written by The GovanhillGub in 2000.

There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance and the leader took a massive stride over that line. Telling me or any supporter that yesterday was part of some grand scheme.

Painful experience tells us that we now know, or at the very minimum reasonably adduce, that in two years time Tony Watt, Filip Twardzik,Paddy McCourt, Jackson Irvine and a host of regular benchwarmers will have disappeared.

We, that’s us – the fans – won’t allow anything else!

    Someone mentioned Paul Caddis earlier.

I have stopped going to see the feeder teams anymore because the players who lit up my Saturday mornings and filled grounds from Shotts to Stirling University were summarily discarded in favour of tongue twisting names and arithmetically incalculable wage packets from abroad.

There is no evidence that the future will be any different. To be patronised and told how grateful I should be that we were right all along is laughable.

No doubt we’ll all applaud at the state of the ‘frightening’ losses in the accounts.

By the way….drink is an evil….an EVIL!!!!!

  13. Watched the Locomotiv Moscow v Spartak Moscow game today (VIP TV stream).

Aiden played a decent game but they certainly look “get-at-able” in defence. Think we need to just go for it against them – Sammi/James could run riot from what I saw today.

Think we can do this mob home and away. Beat Benfica at home an we’re up & runnin’ in this group.

can`t imagine me supporting a team who would be capable of that in the first place

cannae imagine CFC supporters allowing the club to be liquidated leaving a trail of debt

if, those in charge had behaved as Green and co …no not for me

  15. Tambourine Bhoy on

Celtic have a brilliant oppurtunity to allow the younger players a chance. They can have plenty game-time in the 1st team, they can gain huge experience from this. We can afford to drop some points.

This season is a big season for Celtic, in every way.

    Things are looking good :)

    A very interesting question.

It would be extremely hard to say I supported a bunch of cheats.

I think the public/media treatment of Celtic in the position they are in would be very different and we would never be allowed to forget it and your phone – ins and the like would not be overly bothered about Panels, tribunals and the law.

We’d be called cheats openly (which is what they are but they are hiding behind the law in their case.

If we’d had an inkling of a Craig Whyte situation, we’d have been outside Celtic Park with torches and pitchforks.

    That is the difference.

  18. ….PFayr

    I totally agree.

I would be horrified and totally embarrassed to be associated with a club that could have done what they have.

I just find it amazing that people can still carry on supporting such an “institution” as blindly as they do.

I see. Just coincidence, I met Maciej yesterday and he suggested he could fly to Glasgow again and asked me how youwere doing? Greetings from him and from the Polish girls who keep loving you.

  20. Saw something today that made me realise how far the Hun have fallen.

Passed a pub in Glasgow as the Huns equalised and the hoard outside smoking and eating chips were jumping about like a Champions League winner.

Normally I would be disappointed at a Hun goal but it made laugh and I actually sat for a minute idiot watching. It was strangely compelling as they shouted abuse at anyone not in a Hun top.

    Barcelona, Benfica, Moscow.

Estadio – I take your point and wasn’t defending our host, but with a certain team missing from the SPL then we have a real chance to bring on some quality youngsters. At least, we’ve been told that this is a quality group after the last two or three under-19 squads were released.

I also remember Paul Caddis being described as the new Daniel Fergus before he played for the first team. Previously, the pressure on our youngsters to break through was unbearable, as we couldn’t afford to drop points and lose out in the title to “you know who”!

Hearts, Hibs & United seemed to bring through players on a more regular basis, but they were not subject to the same pressure of having to win every week.

Enjoy the pints mate and hope this explains “the lost at sea” comment….Wilson!

If it was as obvious as what has happened to them. I would have a real problem with that.

We are more than a club. (Shiver). it doesn’t bear thinking about.

We’d be held to account anyway and would not be given the opportunity to suffer the embarrassment they are enduring just now.

We’d just be drummed out and banished from the game. IMO.

I enjoyed much of the game yesterday – particularly the flowing stuff in the first half. The only thing that spoiled my day was listening to the radio on the way home. Radio Scotland negative spin moaning that there have been too many drars so far this year in the SPL – short changing the fans.My more positive outlook would be – what a competitive league we have this year with teams all taking points off each other. Switched over at request of my father-in-law to Clyde and they were openly criticising Celtic for having dropped so many points at this stage of the season – we were top of the league and won 4 games on the spin in the CL to qualify!!! They are all now advocating the increase of the SPL ( we know why) – and often say it will give teams a chance to play young talent and develop the game.No creidt to Celtic or anyone else when they actually do this.

I welcome and support our approach of blooding players. We all love home grown talent playing in the first team and doing well. They will have learned alot yesterday – as will have Neil. Lets make the most of this opportunity, even if it means the occassional blip on the way, like yesterday. HH
