Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

    Good evening Guys,

Just been reading through all the comments on the site, and its great that everybody is on a high. I thought last night we got a great result in difficult conditions. Every player did there bit, but special mention as Paul 67 says, must go to Adam Mathews another great find with a big future in front of him. Lets hope its in the Hoops. Thomas Rogne was also outstanding and if he stays injury free as a great future.

On the performance itself, i felt we needed a little more ability on the ball in the midfield area. Kayal, Brown and Wanyama are all great battlers and very strong at winning the ball, but for me personally Ki is the best passer of a ball with better tecnical abilities than the forementioned 3. He can place that killer pass to get the strikers in. Going forward i would like to see Izzy back at left back with Joe Ledley back in midfield alongside Wanyama, Kayal and Ki with Scott Brown on the bench. Just my opinion of course.

  3. sweetie wrappers?

I thought it was tin foil from ClovenHoof’s microwave.

BTW, a quick read thru a Hootsman report on the game informs me that a “defensive lapse left Ledley with a free header which won the game”.

    “defensive lapse”

    “free header”

    Whit?!?

I got that mate, I meant I don’t understand their motive. (It has me stumped). A strange stunt me thinks.

    Seasons greetings mate.

One of the callers asked keevins why he hated Celtic so much, and asked him to confirm the specific reason..keevins said he couldn’t for legal reasons …????….anyone know what that was all about….????

Also, by not denying that he does hate Celtic, a complaint should go in to have him removed from a show which should be impartial….??

  7. David Peter Deans

Ki’s only telling contribution last night was to give the ball away 3 times in dangerous position’s deep in Celtic half.

Brown forced Huns on back foot all night.

We do need a little more creativity in centre but as confidence grows these guys will be more willing to make more positive passes and get forward to support.

Plus guys like McGeoch and. Commons should be involved.

  8. Tommy Joad

    Just as I expected mate.

Shug was the only one to respond and he said the press

    treat all managers the same.

I just felt I should point it out all the same.

    Not The bus @20:05

I note all you say that about Mr McCoist meeting and greeting all the players outside the away dressing room before kick off. What is that all about?

Surely it can’t be sportsmanship or bedivelment a la Bill Shankly?

Shankly used to meet the visiting team bus when it rolled up at Anfield, and greeted each player in his own inimitable style. This was particularly effective with Spurs, whose players were beaten before they even entered the ground!

Martin Chivers—- ” Hello Martin, great player, — mind you, you haven’t scored here in 5 years”

Pat Jennings—– ” Here he is, the best Goalkeeper in the league– if only you had centre halves that could organise a defence you would be a world beater!”

Steve Perryman—– ” Hello Steve, — see me after the game, I want a chat about next season– you could be a legend here!”

Ralph Coates—- ” Ralph, what age are you now?”

and so on and so on.

Then he would go into his own dressing room and tell his own players how bloody scared the spurs lot looked— you can take 5 of this mob– they are southern nancy boys!

I am sure Mr McCoist is not about such tactics and shenannigans!

Mind you– he is neither that cheeky nor that witty– and besides I don’t suppose it would ork with big Victor anyway!!!!

Can Any of you IT experts get pics of big Fartley trying to eyeball Brown in the tunnel b4 the game? Its funny!!!

  11. Seanbhoy thanks,

I don’t envisage forensic analysis of such revealing stats in the press this week either !!

If McCoist gets the bullet – and I hope he doesn’t – it certainly wont be due to media pressure….

  13. A wee word of caution to the bhoys on here who frequent

the Glencairn club, a few guys left the club last night after a

few celebratory drinks, they headed up to Mill st for a taxi

where they were set upon by 20 odd huns, couple of them

had to be taken to Hospital, and have heard today that police

made a number of arrests, so bhoys be careful

David Peter Deans……I luv KI…..but Neil is correct (as usual) not to play him against that lot…..we need the grit from Broony (who was FANTASTIC) and Kayal (who was amazing)……

That’s the last time I record a Celtic v orcs game…..watched it when I came home from the game last night, AND ALL DAY TODAY…..knackered…!!…..and I can’t stop watching it…..is there a medical term for this condition.? …. looked up CELTICITIS, but couldn’t find anything on it…….LOL…!!!.

  18. Hi Guys,

    Just popping in from Lurkdom to add my congratulations to Lenny and all the Bhoys for a great night. It ticked ALL the boxes;

    Keevins tipping the hunz

David Tanner wearing his lucky BLUE neutral tie.

Charlie Nicholas coming back into the fold……

and the hunz losing with their usual “dignity”!

Trying not to get worked up with tonights Evening Times. One huge photo of Stokes blocking Laugherty. No sighting of any of the hun assaults! Just as well the giraffe wasn’t stretchered off, eh?

    Never mind Keevo, I got a few predictions wrong recently too;

I reckoned we needed a keeper. Wrong!

I reckoned Broony would never cut it as Celtic captain. Wrong!

I reckoned we would never see Sammi show any consistency. Wrong!

I reckoned big Charlie would only be a good option on the bench. Wrong!

I’ve walked out of paradise 4 times this season saying that’s the league over. Wrong!

    No wait….. RIGHT!!!

    Onwards to the Treble!

  20. great result yesterday

still need 1 quality centre back and 1 quality centre forward in january

    squad is to big, but many will hopefully be leaving for free in summer to free up wages for two players we should sign in january in knowledge these guys will be leaving;

dan, o’dea, wilson, cha, hooivel (already away), zaluska, chavi, thompson, loovens thats a good £70k per week

throw in, murphy, radmussion, mcginn, commons (poss), mccourt (wants game time), £45K per week and we’ll be able to push boat out for 1 quality creative midfielder in summer.

can see ki leaving this summer, me think 1/2 of his transfer fee on player and other 1/2 on upgrade of london road school i.e. CWG – celtic triangle, to add regular and new revenue of £1 maybe 2 million per year towards keeping and improving a good squad of between 18 and 20 first team players.

the futures bright its, in our hands to make it green and white

  21. Anyone else notice Aluko’s latest contribution last night?

He blocked the linesman’s view of their ‘goal’ thus denying him the opportunity to give it.

Anyway, the whole of the ball wasn’t over the whole of the line, don’t let anyone tell you different (Sorry BBJ)

Our problem is that we sometimes allow the ‘agenda’ to cloud the facts….at one point this season we had 10 first team regulars out injured……back on track now, and flying….!!!!!….Hail Hail to you

  23. David Peter Deans on

    Fan-a-tic,

Its all about opinions of course, on this one i will have to agree to disagree. Ki has far more ability than Brown, and as far as giving the ball away in his own half. Well Brown as done that on more than 3 occasions in the past. Brown has great fighting qualities and that says it all about him. Last night Ki was on for about 10 mins and made some very good passes as well as the 3 you mentioned. He has not won player of the year in his homeland for nothing.

  24. Lads I’ve recorded game last night and I can’t believe I did t notice this.

Coming out the tunnel laughable elbowed Kayal in the face but you won’t hear this on FF they only try and see things they only want to see.

  25. Someone posted a good while ago a you tube thing from Sweden I think about Lenny, dubbed, can’t seem to find it anywhere, something about Lenny being the saviour.

Embdy find it, I would be much obliged.

  26. Lads that guy on Clyde tonight was immense but if I was him I would’ve just said what he was trying to say instead of asking keevins if it was ok.

Terry,Frank, seanbhoy absolutely love it when you bhoys are on.

I can’t recall that guys name but I remember last year he was on real radio and he knew his stuff so props to you matey cos they flap when guys like you go on but again keevins says legalities.

Has already been said, but no linesman or ref on the planet could award that as a goal, even with bionic vision. :)

My first thought was that it was a fantastic save, and that’s what I’m sure everyone within 50m of it thought too.

All the focus should be on the incredible reactions of FF to keep the ball out of the net! Superb!!! :)
