Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

  1. Estadio, there is a hilarious thread on FF bemoaning the complete failure of their Tifo display. Its tragic and comic – real “you couldn’t make this up” stuff.

  2. Probably been mentioned but what is the difference between Healy’s yellow last night and James Forrest’s red card v Hamilton in a January, a decision by, oh yes, Mr Willie Collum.

Collum showed weakness right from the start by not delaying the kick off to clear up all the Xmas wrapping paper.

His decision to blow for half time when he did was a total joke.

    Spineless.

  3. Anyone have a link to Sammi getting pulled back at the end of the 1st half?

Also any good links for the huddle?

  4. TOSB,

    Nothing personal.

Thank you very much. Same to you and to your family. Glad to hear time you spent in Poland was good.

After 13 years, she has now been completely converted from Ukrainian Orthodox to Orthodox Celtic

“Being Orthodox Celtic or Orthodox Legia is not an disharmony. It is not suspense of identity of religion, neither color of skin or nationality. It is wonderful harmony of being good man.”

I think Bob Dylan said that.

  6. Good evening from a sun soaked, hun free Egypt. What a day to be a Celtic fan. Thank-you Lenny & the bhoys for making my holiday. Met a Rubicon mate today. I reckon if we push on through January they will fold. They are woeful. Could be hosepipe time. I love being a TIM.

ibleedgreenandwhite2…..i saw that also. (when I watched the game on the telly on return home from the best victory in many years)….absolutely, incredibly hilarious……!!!!!

  8. Not often that I comment. But today is a good day.

Biggest plus for us of late? Victor Wanyama. In midfield. Him being there makes our CB’s better. Just look at Big Dan’s performances since Victor went in to midfield. Dan went from horrible to steady. Protection on the ground. No balls bouncing in midfield.

Also, look at Kaya’s performances with Victor in there. When Kayal is playing the ‘holding’ role, he doesn’t get involved. He sits back, looks like he is hiding half the time. When Victor is in that position, Kayal is pushed further forward, where he HAS to get involved. Makes a big difference.

Next big plus? Charlie Mulgrew. Few of us (certainly not me) figured Charlie for a footballer, never mind a CB. Decent passer, solid in the air, and he can play a bit. Another HUGE bonus. And we got him on a free as well.

Finally, James Forrest. I hope Neil protects him, and gives him a rest over the next couple of weeks. He’s started to attract the treatment from the hammer throwers.

And…..Paul, Martin42….have a great New Year. I hope that your family is well.

    Ronnie

The game was available in Polish Orange Sport TV. All sport media in Poland reported who rules over Glasgow. I expect some TV broadcasts to show goals in the afternoon news.

    Re. Boruc.

He is not giving interviews to the press. One thing that comes to my mind. He never ever said bad word about Scotland, Glasgow or Rangers here. He mentioned few times that does not like Rangers and always wanted to win but never said a word against even when was that affair with making sign of cross.

    Thank you.

Agreed. We should challenge EVERY dodgy decision. There will be plenty.

Awe Naw – there may be a good guy or two out there, but normally they get punted to the lower divisions.

Some day we’ll catch up and I’ll tell you a story of a friend of mine who owns a Scottish Football Club and how the SFA tried to shaft his club. Why? He is a hoops man at heart and a senior well known SFA employee had it in for him. The SFA guy was also an ex filth player, and it cost him his job despite his reasons for quitting being reported as “personal”.

The game is corrupt, as we know, from top to bottom, and we have to keep telling it as it is. Maybe one day fairness will prevail……..hmmm …then again maybe we will be better served to remain 12 points better than them.

I read somewhere earlier that when Sammi got pulled back at half time you can see the 4th official holding up 1 minute extra time and the stadium announcer saying it as well

Now is not the time for DD and PL to assume that the job is done.

Now and I mean in two days from now for them to make sure that a squad is apparently doing ok is strengthened to take it to a level beyond ok. Not as the transfer window fizzles out at the end of January. But now.

Zbigniew Brzezinski is still giving interviews for our media. He has big impact on our politicians. Did great work for Poland. He was born in the USA, lived there whole life but speaks perfect Polish without signs of foreign language.

  23. I have just watched the first half ( from the link posted earlier p4, maybe? Thanks to whoever posted the link) and am about to watch the second half. I believe Lennie can afford to rest some of last night`s team for the Dunfermline match. We could have beaten them by double figures a few weaks ago. Time to use our big squad.
